Action and omission are equally punishable. Beginning music director Kadir meets music teacher Mira and between them a romantic relationship. Everything seems to be going well, but suddenly Kadir’s friends one by one get into trouble, and video messages of an intimate nature with Mira begin to arrive on his phone. Is this someone's evil prank, or is it more serious than it sounds? The strange situation is complicated by Mira’s complaints that someone is watching her. Trying to find out who is behind all this, Kadir can not even assume that the roots of the current problem should be sought not in the present, but in his past.
Another good thriller from the director-newcomer Ranjit Jayakodi. The film itself should not be perceived as entertaining content, it is created with a specific purpose to convey to the audience the problem and the result to which it leads. In the age of information technology, society has faced a new kind of violence in the form of illegal distribution of private data through mobile portable equipment. This entails psychological trauma for victims, and often physical damage to health, not to mention possible blackmail and extortion of money. The case that formed the basis of the plot of this film, may at first glance seem harmless joke. However, the crippled fates of the heroes clearly demonstrate to us that such things are not worth joking about. And it is better to experience the seriousness of the situation on someone else’s fictional example than on your own skin.
I was a bit surprised by the claims of film critics to the plot and to the director as a whole. They say that the script is too far-fetched, the main character is inconclusive, and the message of the film has no impact on society today. That is, Ranjit tried his best to convey the existing problem to the Indians, and he was accused that when watching his film, the audience did not experience a thrill, did not see a river of blood and did not suffocate in ecstasy from demonstration violence. Then let’s not be offended by anyone, take this project to the category of documentaries. Let it be shown as a edification to schoolchildren and students, which are also discussed in the course of the story. Maybe a sophisticated viewer and not impressed by what he saw, but, in my opinion, the Director successfully built a logical chain in his story and ended everything on a rather philosophical note. It is necessary to be able to distinguish the usual entertainment, which was seen and forgotten, from something more serious, which should be fixed in the head for a long time. This film left its mark in my soul, made me think about what motivates people who are in such trouble, why they do this and what happens to the perpetrators or silent witnesses of such crimes. That is, after watching a lot of all sorts of thoughts appeared, which is an indicator of the director’s goal to teach us something or warn us from something.
As far as I know, critics lacked a thriller. And this despite the fact that a standard set of scarecrows in the plot is present. There is surveillance covertly (the topic of voyeurism also lit up in the plot), and sudden disappearances, and messages from the other world. For greater persuasiveness, the main characters were assigned a mission to convey as much as possible the nervousness and discomfort from the strange situations that are taking place, up to a helpless state when no one can help - neither the police, who do not care about such trifles (they have a lot of such statements from alleged victims a day), nor anyone else, nor you (not yourself, but the person you are trying to protect). Almost all the attention is drawn to the main character, played by Vijay Sethupathi. It's complicated. It is impossible to say for sure whether he was a positive or negative character. On the one hand, everything he has done for and for his beloved girlfriend, by default, forces him to treat him as an injured party. However, when the whole truth is revealed, it is not that the attitude towards him becomes cool, but the question arises whether he is so innocent of what happened. Is his punishment fair? Not physically, but psychologically, he was punished. Whether he deserved such a fate, I find it difficult to answer.
To the main character against this background, critics also had claims. She didn't convince them of her behavior. What was that supposed to mean? It feels like they thought the script was supposed to mimic the Hollywood movie I Spit on Your Graves. For those who didn’t watch, it was a thriller of the most entertaining nature, when the victim of violence took justice into his own hands. If you’re expecting something like that, you’re definitely not in the right place. It's pretty civilized here. There was a moment of psychological pressure associated with some physical inconvenience, but the hero withstood it with dignity, without snot and tantrums. I mean the scene on the bridge. And I appreciated this reception very positively. First, we can teach a lesson without going beyond humanity. Secondly, we had to have some kind of opinion about the character in order to then face a dilemma, and how to treat him in the end. These are mind games, and you don't have to pour rivers of blood to entertain the audience. Gaiatri, like Vijay, I have no complaints at all. Everything the main character wanted, she got. Why did she do this in the final and not otherwise? There are two possibilities. Either this was thought of from the very beginning, or the feelings that arose decided the outcome.
In my opinion, it is not necessary to delve so deeply into the characters of the characters to give some assessment of what happened. We can just analyze the situation as a whole. Those who commit crimes, even for fun, must be punished. Those who even indirectly take part in illegal actions should also be punished. In the credits for the film is an excerpt from the law of India. That is, you can treat people in different ways, but you can not just turn away from responsibility, if you are at least the most beautiful person in the world.
Summarizing Ranjit’s philosophical approach to the pressing problem, I can safely recommend his film for viewing. In addition to crime and punishment, there is a place for romance. For lovers of Vijay in romantic roles there are many scenes worthy of attention. I did not find any serious flaws in the story. I disagree with the critics in their overall assessment. I think it’s important to watch movies like this to remind yourself that before you do anything, it’s best to think about the consequences. Good to see you all!
