"Land of Rainy Trees" The story of Sakisaki Nobuyuki and Rick Hitomi is a story of pure and tender love between two people who have never met each other in their lives. Nobuyuki works as an employee. Since high school, he has kept a manga series called Happy Game, and all because of the ending, which then surprised him. Ten years later, once again stumbling upon this manga, Sakisaki again ponders the finale, in which the guy and the girl break up without even trying to fight for their future. In search of answers and like-minded people on the Internet, a young man accidentally stumbles upon the blog “Land of rainy trees”. The owner, Hitomi, is also surprised by the ending, but she has a reasonable explanation. This is how the relationship between a boy and a girl begins, which will soon grow into something more sublime. However, Nobuyuki's sudden offer of a meeting leads Hitomi to a dead end. The girl is clearly hiding something, so she tries to avoid meeting Sakisaki in real life.
I’ll tell you right away – it’s not a detective or some sharp criminal story. “The Land of Rainy Trees” is a real romantic melodrama, and without any overplays, stupid grins and games, so characteristic of the film adaptation of the manga and designed for an emotional teenage audience. By the way, the film is based on the novel of the same name by Japanese writer Hiro Arikawa. This film raises much more complex and lofty questions: whether it is the problem of compassion and caring for loved ones, what we are ready for for the sake of those who are dear to us, finally – the lives of people with disabilities. And there are many such films in the cinema of the Land of the Rising Sun.
I liked this film primarily because of the idea and the positive. Despite the importance of the topic, the authors do not reduce the film to a simple social drama, but organically weave elements of many genres here. Very important, for example, the comedy component, embodied in the same image of the eccentric colleague Naboyuki at work. It clearly prevents the viewer from being sad. As has already been correctly noted, this is a real story about the ups and downs in the relationship between two young people. They tried hard to understand and accept each other. It is very important in a relationship to be able to say everything you think without hurting the other. The main thing is to be yourself and not be afraid to take a step towards it.
A few interesting points. This is the first major role of Utah Tamamori in a big movie. And his Sakisaki Nobuyuki came out as a very bright and memorable character. The actor clearly managed to convey his character on the screen - kind and open, it's a pity that Utah does not have such a big cinematic career. He called Sakisaki Nobuyuki his absolute opposite. The actor admitted that at first he felt awkward on the set and shy of Maria (actress Maria Nishiyuti played the role of Sakisaki’s lover). But then he realized that the girl is very friendly and has a bright and cheerful character. Yuta Tamamori shared his feelings: I am very happy. This is my first major film role and I have to show my fighting spirit. The film crew began work on October 18, 2014. Most of the scenes were shot in Osaka and its suburbs. In the first week of the show, the film took the 1st place according to the results of collections in Japan. The box office here was $3,907,507. In addition to “Land of Rain Trees”, the film is also known as: “Land of Rain Forests” and “World of Admiration”.
