The old story on the new way Screenings both artistic and animated on the theme of the story-fairy tale of Charles Dickens about the greedy Ebenezer Scrooge there is a great many. I, for example, first saw Disney from Mickey Mouse, where there are all the characters of this universe – Mickey, Minnie, Scrooge McDuck, etc., then watched “Christmas Song” in 1999, where the role of Ebeniser was played by Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier from “X-Men”). And of course, “Christmas Story” by Robert Zemeckis with Jim Carrey – this film can be revised every year and it will not get bored.
“Christmas Song” 2018 from David Isatt with Stuart Brennan in the role of Scrooge is rather a free interpretation of the usual “Christmas Story” by Dickens, because the film is modern, the events unfold in our days, and the plot elements of some episodes are somewhat modified. But in any case, the film stands the general concept and does not depart too far from the original. In this case, it can be compared to “It” in 2017, which is different from King’s novel.
The film "Christmas Song" was generally not bad. As befits any film adaptation of "Christmas Story" - kind and instructive. With a modest budget of 4 million, the picture has a certain set of special effects. Despite the fact that the events are transferred to our days, modern cars, cell phones flash in the frame, the creators of the picture decided to leave an element of antiquity and brought to the entourage a modest, ascetic life of the characters, and even rich Ebenizer Scrooge. By filling his apartment, you can judge that he is so greedy to surround himself with the blessings of civilization, or that a modest existence is due to a script idea.
Stuart Brennan left a good impression on the game, but in those moments when it was necessary to show strong feelings - fear, joy, as it seemed to me, he either did it not too skillfully, or overplayed it.
The film has a good festive soundtrack, with several songs Shazam found and added to its traditional New Year playlist, always launched in the early days of December. So in this regard, the "Christmas song" is also pleased.
The picture goes about 80 minutes, managing during this time to show albeit in a concise narrative mode, but the whole essence of the “Christmas story”, briefly telling about Scrooge’s greed, his past, the spirits of Christmas coming to the poor guy, as well as his miraculous transformation. This is not a perfect adaptation, but given the bold decision to bring the action to the present and play on it, taking into account the preservation of the old way of life, the film deserves praise. Plus the presence of absolutely unknown actors adds to the project unusual and at the beginning of viewing even there was a feeling that this movie was created by Scandinavians, for example, or the British.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Enjoy your visit.
