Boring Give people freedom and they will begin to imitate each other.
It seems that the ideas of modern screenwriters the cat cried and all their creativity is reduced to the revision of other people's stories. Here was recently a number of sad series “about relationships”, as imitative projects flooded like a bucket. "Almost there" just from this series and alas, the novelty does not shine absolutely. As well as other advantages...
Briefly about the plot. One Cooper, an unsympathetic psychology professor under 40, is depressed. He is abandoned by his fiancée, suffers and goes on dates arranged by a caring pregnant neighbor. Before one of them, he accidentally meets a certain Natalie, the editor of cookbooks. And they have chemistry. I really didn't notice anything like that, but it was in the script. Then the contact is interrupted and now Cooper is sluggishly trying to find her. Very sluggish and very roundabout. How many cookbook publishers are there in New York? I guess you can call them in a day. But then the series would have ended in an instant, so the most persistent viewers still have a long time to stare at the dull bustle of the dull Cooper, while Natalie wanders literally nearby (ah, what an original move!).
In order for the audience not to fall asleep, the main character is provided with a typical set of secondary ones. Fun (by script!) buddy, sorry, not a single funny joke he was not written, the neighbor, leaving the secretary, lustful student ... in general, all this you have seen hundreds of times. It happens that just a secondary hero pulls the project. Remember "Moonlight" that Jason Doring literally saved? But this is not the case, alas! Everyone here looks boring and bad.
The beginning of the project is very reminiscent of "No Obligations", only here Casual died only in the second season, and the first was nothing like that! Almost There begins with what Casual finished - small, annoying fuss and tiresome chatter of uninteresting people. Surprisingly, the series lasts only 24 minutes, but the first two episodes I barely watched. And I will not continue.
