The butterfly trap Hypnosis is a terrible force. Only our instinct of reproduction is more frightening than it, which sometimes pushes us to very rash and crazy actions to please intruders. The Power of Hypnosis is just one of many erotic comedies directed by Johann Schwarzer, who created Austrian cinema from scratch. The style of the director can be determined not only by the presence of nudity in the frame, but also by recognizable scenery. Schwarzer loved to put his characters in richly furnished rooms.
A girl of easy demeanor brings a client into her room, who is dishonestly robbed by the power of hypnosis. Either the client is caught with a low threshold of sensitivity, or the young lady is very experienced, but only the consumer quickly plunges into a trance, from which even striptease does not take him out before his eyes. Unenviable situation, yes. Especially when you find yourself lying on the floor later. However, if the memory is lost, it is easy to believe that the previous hour was the hottest in the life of the client. The degree of joy of a call girl and a pimp is difficult to imagine: both hands were not dirty in vain, and money earned.
An involuntary smile appears at the sight of primitive editing, when the location of objects changes dramatically with a change of frame. Once such techniques were considered the first in the history of special effects, but in this case, the director shows the past period of time so as not to waste extra energy on creating subtitles.
The comedic style of Schwarzer only embellishes the merits of this film, which was shot in 1908, even before the shots of the First World War and the screams of sinking on the Titanic. Many tapes of that time were lost, most likely irretrievably, and Schwarzer, in addition, made films that during his lifetime were called pornographic. What times, what manners. But the success in a narrow circle of audience at the director was decent.
