A movie about loneliness and despair What would you think if you received a letter detailing your future mistakes and instructions to avoid them? So our heroine Naho Takamiya is lost in guesswork. However, when the events of the letter from the 10-year future begin to come true, she has to believe. On that day, a newcomer, Kakeru, is transferred to their class - a solitary man who hides an important event in his life. This secret is fundamental in the whole plot, although it is revealed to us already in the synopsis! The death of his mother really morally suppressed Kakera, and now he has no one to rely on, as he does not seek to make friends. Naho is imbued with sympathy for the newcomer and is in turmoil. When her friend invites her friends to go to the candy store after school, she recalls a line from her message: "Don't call him this time." Nowhere. Naho, of course, hopes that everything will work out, but is it? And what made her write such a letter to herself after all this time?
While watching the film, you experience mixed feelings, and after watching it to the end, you think about a lot. The importance of those who can help in difficult times, circumstances that literally test us for strength, the psychological fragility of our consciousness and the amazing power of seemingly small details that constantly surround us, but notice only in such moments. It’s a great movie that teaches us to be more attentive to each other. The reception was very strong when the director makes inserts from the 10-year future, supplementing events from the past in more detail. Strangely enough, the future doesn’t change as we might expect, and this adds to the drama of anticipation.
The film catches from the first minutes and looks literally in one breath, which is a great merit of the worthy play of the actors themselves. Quite typical for Kento Yamazaki role, which allowed to reveal the potential of this actor. His Kakeru is sad alone, and not letting anyone close to him, then has fun during breaks, a sports competition or just wandering around the park. The main thing in this film is not even the events themselves, but the nature of the relationship between the characters, which each of the actors tried to reveal as accurately as possible. All four are completely different and at the same time complement each other well. Pay attention, for example, to the hero Suva - so caring and understanding, realizing even that turning back time, he will lose everything - Suva still decides to take this step, which will help save his friend.
There are some points that are not logical, although there are not many. For example, the quarrel between Naho and Kakeru is empty, and it is not a quarrel at all, at least not such as to be so decisive. Why aren’t major changes in the storyline reflected in the future? Film based on the theory of the “parallel world” quite a lot, including in Japan. And yet this film is really extraordinary. Probably because the two worlds seem unrelated. That's why the plot is unused.
Separately, it is worth talking about the title of the film. Orange, of course, is probably an incorrect translation, since this fruit has nothing to do with the film. There is a moment in the film when the characters throw about the fact that ten years later they will be together, gather to watch cherry blossoms, and there will be an orange sky. At least I agree with one viewer’s comment: Orange is a dream symbol. Can they save Kakera? Will he be able to see the orange sky in 10 years? Therefore, the ending turned out quite remarkable - kind of like the choice of the hero, only watch the film to the end.
The film is based on the manga of the same name by Ichigo Takano, published in April 2012. On the first day of the weekend, the film became the leader, grossing $ 2.58 million. In total, for ten weeks of screening in theaters, “Orange” managed to collect 26 million 300 thousand dollars. At the 39th Japan Academy Prize, held in March 2016, the duo Tao Tsutiya and Keno Yamazaki were recognized as Breakthrough of the Year.
