Just the main (or very simply the most important) Very nice story of a romantic relationship between a girl and a guy. The plot itself is an unobtrusively banal triangle (conditional). In the first year of high school, the girl falls in love with the main character, a year older than her, and he is already in love with another girl.
The film captures its simplicity and realism.
I won’t be a prude, I like romantic comedies. The main thing is that there is not too much romance, without pathos. But “realistic” sketches sometimes with this pathos of romance just stifle my brain.
But this movie is the middle ground. Oddly enough, there is a lot in it that fans of Japanese cinema are used to. There is no sparkling humor, no school life, child prodigies and geniuses, or girls with psychological disorders and complexes. There is no background emptiness, thrust, with the contemplation of black holes in the sky, which is often bred in Asian melodramas. In general, the dose of cliches and stamps is minimized.
There is a simple but well-made movie. Such a film could appear in any country, there is little purely Japanese. That’s exactly what it has, is the theme of friendship, the theme of growing up, and of course, romance. There are nice and natural characters.
He is a handsome hero, but only so (no more) that you can fall in love with him at first sight. Not a celestial, but an ordinary guy who has to try to study well and enter the university. And his hobbies are very simple, together with a friend they founded a board games club, where during the year they do not do anything supernatural in their spare time, except take care of an ordinary cat.
There's his first love, a year older than him, a student. She is an amazing girl, but she makes a lot of mistakes in life like any other girl.
There's a main character. Gray mouse, ugly, a little fussy, angular, but not stupid and does not cause rejection. Kind and insightful. Such girls are not admired, but it is easy to believe that a young man will want to hug her and protect her from the injustice of this world.
The scenery in the film is very ordinary. Modest school environment, simple club room. No unnecessary beauty, the city is the same as any of us, outside the window.
The film is simple but beautiful. There is no overdrive with the dynamics, but it is not prolonged either. There is no drama, no rabid tragedies, no circle events, too emotional moments. The whole main drama lies somewhere behind the scenes, but this does not stop believing in it less. If in the beginning I had fears that the authors would not pull an interesting film on such a too mundane note. I was wrong, that’s great.
I would advise anyone who does not like too pathetic or too grotesque romantic stories.
