Stop on the way down. In many countries, after the Olympics, sports facilities were abandoned or even looted (as in Rio). In Athens, the lower social strata of the population settled in houses for athletes. It is clear that they did not appreciate the gift: they hate their housing and district, the remaining Olympic venues in the form of a swimming pool and a stadium are destroyed, do not work, love drinking and very vulgar entertainment (first of all, sex and fights). And in this environment live two brothers, ages 20 and 14. Chronic lack of money, no father, no work, only mother, alcoholic and libertine.
However, for some time the older brother had an outlet in the form of love (with a “colleague” in a dull existence), and the younger (more precisely, both brothers) in the form of a dog of a fighting breed. It is easy to guess that the end of a relationship with both a girl and a dog in such an environment can only be tragic. And then autumn has begun, and Athens appears dull not only in economic, but also in natural terms.
And then we see the fall of the older brother, ready to do anything for a small amount in euros. And this “everything” the authors of the film show with savor and without embellishment. True, at the very end, the main character seems to say “stop” before stepping into the abyss, but whether he stopped forever or for a while, we do not know. By the way, the younger brother turned out to be more bloodthirsty, also a hint that in the “ghetto” each next generation grows more cruel than the previous one, despite all the talk about humanism, social programs, integration, etc.
Unfortunately, the film is not only pessimistic, but also boring. A lot of longitudes, passes and absolutely unnecessary frames, without which timekeeping would be reduced by half. But he is honest, he shows the depressed EU countries for what they are. And in general, not so often we can appreciate Greek cinema, so exotic!
