Rob Zombie's debut If it wasn’t for Rob Zombie’s participation, I probably would never have watched this clip. This is a very interesting, albeit short, work. Even then, in 1992, Rob’s personality was enveloped in an artistic frenzy that, even two decades later, was well recognized in his films. The path of the future king of horror and heavy rock began, as you can see, long before the House of 1000 Corpses and even the first solo album of 1998.
To confess, the song sounded in this video, was for me the greatest surprise, because before watching I was not too lazy to read its lyrics to make it easier to hear the English-language performance. The theme chosen is the most typical for rock, which in those years was only gaining momentum: the ride "wild" Mustang in a depressed mood rolls along the road under the rays of the sun, which seems to him black. More precisely, depression is assumed in the text, but in fact it is a positive song, urging not to be discouraged, but to have fun. The video sequence, matched to the track, shows us the mood of Rob with the help of unsaturated shades and hints of murder – again, slips the theme of future films that Rob will direct himself. But so far everything is very modest and a good half of the clip is devoted to how the future star in the band White Zombie sings to the accompaniment of guitarists and drummers.
If you expect to hear the familiar notes of "Dragula" or "Zombie Girls" here, you're probably going to be a little disappointed, because in the early 1990s, Rob was still holding back his monstrous roar deep inside himself, then pouring it out in a wild rite of chanting fear. Black Sunshine is not a song about horror, it’s just a sample of the musical trends of the time. But listening to her and reviewing the clip from this is no less interesting.
