«Sleeping beauty. A gothic romance» I love ballet, I love the bright beauty of the costume and the swiftness of the dance, the apparent lightness and hard work behind this fabulous action.
This is the second review of Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty. I first wanted to copy it to another page on the Kinopoisk website, and then I thought, Why? A new day is a new thought.
The plot is written in the description - a fantasy story with elements of dance, ballet, classical fairy tale, references to such genres as mysticism and comedy. It's a fairy tale, beautiful and sometimes scary.
I have a lot of associations, I wrote about it, I just read Neil Gaiman now, apparently in connection with this, as well as the fact that I recently went to Swan Lake in the Ufa Opera and Ballet Theater, now the feelings are a little different. The admiration remained, however, the understanding that this is still a staged dance performance, and not a classical ballet, intensified.
Actors and dancers. Princess Aurora and Leo. Hanno Vassalo and Dominic North. A good choice, they justified it - the images are very bright, young, they seemed to come off the pages of a book with magical stories.
Adam Maskell just loved me. The image of Karadok/Karabos he played is attractive, vicious, gloomy – a tribute to fashion, a collective image of a negative character.
I have already noted the beauty of costumes and scenery, I just looked at the screen, froze with delight. Beautiful fairies and dark creatures harmoniously shaded each other. I even thought about the change of seasons, about the interpretation of mythological transitions of winter and summer.
The creators just perfectly assembled the classical style of dance, stories about vampires and faeries, a modern vision of the fairy tale, added a little humor and mysticism. This is a beautiful show.
I would love to see it again.
