Jumping into the void What would you like about this independent film? Not much. Directing, acting, plot depth? The story here is very heavy, sad and psychological. The film looks with excitement and puts pressure on the viewer by the severity of the hopelessness of the situation. No one wants to think about migrants, everyone has their own problems, their own lives.
But who will help the migrants? Those who want to leave their “home” and be saved, to find a new home, a place where they will try their luck, or maybe luck and life will be better? Who needs migrants? People who are starving. People who have nowhere to live, and they categorically do not want to return to their countries. People on boats trying to cross the sea. People who flee Africa to Europe for a new life.
There are so many people in every country: who will help the migrants? It's nothing.
The story follows a black man fleeing an African country to London, where he dreams of a different life. At home, he is waiting for death and execution, but maybe in another country he will be listened to, help him? The hero ends up at the British Migration Service, where a white woman asks him standard questions. He tells her his story in the hope that he will be allowed to stay. . .
Hollywood movies spoiled the audience, and everyone is used to seeing what we go to see, no one wants to see the gray, terrible, dull and hopeless everyday life of reality. Many people have enough of them in their lives. That’s exactly what the film is trying to show us: the harsh reality.
Lena Headey plays the role of a woman who listens every day to the stories of unfortunate migrants who ask for help but are still deported to their country. Every day the same questions, paper, pen, camera, all to the standard. Her character’s personal life is not very good: the daughter is brought up by her husband, and the woman lives alone. Listening to the heartbreaking story of a black man, her thoughts are often far away, and not here.
By the way, the star of the popular series around the world “Game of Thrones” Headey makes a big advertisement for this little-known British film, and thanks to her participation, many people learned about it. On the role of Wendy (an employee of the migration service), the famous insidious Cersei successfully approached. She was none in this film from the famous series: Ian Glen also played in a supporting role.
Anthony Woodley's psychological drama 'The Flood' is not for the mass audience. The film is extremely heavy, with a story that people close their eyes to and try not to think about, because everyone has their own problems, as I said. This film is full of pain, injustice, inhospitable peace and emptiness, a jump into emptiness.
The Flood is a 2019 British drama. This story is tragic, terrible and relevant, but what to do? That's the question the whole movie asks. I'm very neutral about this independent film.
If you send me back, I will be killed there.
- That's not true, everyone says so.
- It's true.
