I want to express my disgust at this: the fifth season of Dragons: Racing the Edge. 'Look! We have graphics like a cartoon, but only worse and with the plot sucked out of a finger! Ha ha!' This is probably what the creators of this season and the series thought when they did it.
Perhaps the reason is different - just burned deadlines before the release of the third part, and therefore they had no time to "polish" the countonium and the plot, which eventually got some, sorry, parasha... (Just moved to Netflix and everything went.)
Although before that, I mean seasons 1-4 of the series (season 1: Riders of the Berk, season 2: Defenders of the Berk, seasons 3 and 4: Race on the Edge), were quite caretaker and not moronic. Although there was a couple but maybe not a couple... But this is... (season 5) One of the most, and perhaps not the most, but the worst endings of the series / animated series.

I do not recommend watching the fifth season. I watched it just rewinding and without much interest. And it did not look very: the implementation of graphonium is something primitive, like there is a deviation, but raw. Fee. So, if you really want to, take a risk, but I warned you!

It so happened that for more than a year I have not written any reviews. But literally today I finished watching an animated series called “Dragons: Race on the Edge”, which is part of the same franchise about dragons, and simply could not leave a review on it. The hands literally reached for the keyboard.

The cartoon is very good. The creators have worked on their offspring to fame and managed to show such an unusual and fascinating world that is simply breathtaking, as from flying in the sky on a dragon. In this regard, it remains a great mystery to me why the cartoon is not popular with the Russian-speaking audience, although the quality is not inferior to many, more popular analogues. On the same Kinopoisk only a couple of hundred ratings, and reviews in general once, two and counted. Really?!

Well, come on, let's move on to my own personal viewing experience. The cartoon is a continuation of the series "Dragons and Berk Riders". Many of the characters who actively participate in the diverse events of Race to the Edge migrated from there and, unfortunately, were not mentioned in any of the feature films. For example, Dagur is the leader of the Berserkov tribe, who escaped from prison and again became a headache for the main characters. Or Heder is a brave dragon rider and intriguer, who throughout the series repeatedly tricks everyone, including the audience. Therefore, it is highly recommended before watching this cartoon to review the previous one or at least read the plot in order to be aware of events and not to be unexpected for yourself in the middle of an unfamiliar forest.
In fact, in order not to pull the cat by the tail, I note at once two main things that distinguish this cartoon from “Dragons and Berk Riders”, and for which he liked me so much.

First, it's animation. In the previous cartoon it, in my opinion, was still quite angular. This was especially true of the appearance of dragons, many of which simply cut their eyes. In Racing the Edge, all such technical shortcomings and flaws have been successfully eliminated. Of course, the animation still does not reach the full-length quality, but at least it is very pleasant and good. Fortunately, the creators had a place to disperse, because here is full of new heroes, locations and, of course, dragons.

The second, and most important, is “adulthood.” I don’t know what other word to describe this line. The bottom line is that, as was quite correctly noticed in one of the reviews, along with the main characters, the franchise has significantly matured. Now on the shoulders of Hiccup fell much greater responsibility. The stakes became higher, the game took a completely different turn. Heroes are increasingly falling into really dangerous, sometimes even deadly traps, from which it is increasingly difficult to get out. Yes, Hiccup became more calculating, but with him became more calculating and his enemies, which did not decrease.

For me personally, the second point is an unconditional and very big plus, although some may consider it a disadvantage.

P.S. Even sadder than the Russian audience’s near-total disregard for the cartoon is that the dragon franchise as we know it has come to an end. They say that it will continue in a slightly different form, but old, so beloved heroes, we are unlikely to see in it. Therefore, I just want to wish that his deserved attention animated series did get, and replaced by others who could fill the void in the hearts of the audience.

I decided to revisit the show and you know I liked it. When I first saw it, I thought it was a joke. Why after the Berk Horsemen do the sequel? Of course, I was glad to see Hiccup and my beloved Astrid. But seriously, the sequel poses questions not only of growing up and first love. But also the ability to understand who is a friend and who is an enemy.
Our heroes have grown. Hiccup and Astrid are getting closer to each other. Geminis become smarter, although sometimes their jokes seem silly and inappropriate. Snotlout is more responsible. Fishlegs are the most courageous.

Many facts about the past of heroes are revealed. Like Astrid's relationship with twins, Fishlegs' conflicts with Snotlout. And most importantly, we understand how villains and positive characters are guided. We are introduced to the situations in which they fall and how they, as a result, come out of these situations.
New characters like Vigo and tribal leaders are also very interesting. The series is not about good and evil. It's about people with flaws and flaws.

In fandom How to Train Your Dragon I have since 2010, with the premiere of the first cartoon about brave Vikings and mystical dragons. Then I loved his sequel, shorts and Cartoon Network's Dragons, and until March I was quietly waiting for the final installment of the trilogy. Until I caught my eye on the Netflix animated series Racing the Edge... And the admiration and admiration increased significantly. I remember rediscovering the magical worlds of the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Now, thanks to Racing the Edge, it's time to discover the world of Dragons!

This is Berk Island. It's been three years since the dragons made peace. As Hiccup and his friends struggle to find their calling in life, disturbing news arrives: Dagur the Furious escapes from prison and seeks revenge for his defeat. In attempts to repel the mad leader of the Berserk tribe, Hiccup finds an unusual artifact - the Dragon Eye, which opens up a whole world of the unknown to the young Viking. Together with his loyal friend Toothless and fellow Dragon Riders, Hiccup goes to explore new lands where they will find new species of dragons, discover many secrets, and face new and incredibly dangerous enemies.

When I sat down to watch the first series, I didn’t even expect to like the animated series so much. There were a few signs on hand. First, the scene has changed: the discovery of new lands prompts the main characters to establish a small outpost of the Dragon Territory, which gave the name of this story. The new world gives a lot of new opportunities - it is a test of a completely different kind than on Olukh, the construction of a fortified base that will allow the heroes to defend themselves from the attack of invaders, the discovery and domestication of new species of often dangerous dragons. In addition, the connection with past events and the inevitable approach of the events of the sequel are especially acute here, when you see how Hiccup Inferno’s fire sword, his flying suit, Fishlegs dragon cards were created, and how many references can be seen in the recently released fifth season – just a head around!
Secondly, this is a chic humor - the characters often get into funny situations and also funny get out of there. Particularly note Chicken (Chicken, Chicken), which became a walking anecdote, Thorston-and-Torston and the musical episode, where the characters impressed us with their vocal data!

Thirdly, these are the main characters of the animated series. Not only did they grow up (after all, three years have passed), but they also changed a lot. If in the previous two seasons we could only see the makings of Hiccup’s leadership abilities, Astrid’s sensitivity, Fishleg’s courage, Snotlout’s friendliness and the unpredictable genius of Zabiyaki and Zabika, then here they develop fully. There are also episodes where we can watch the characters work together in the most unexpected combinations - for example, Astrid and the twins, Snotlout and Fishlegs, Hiccup and ... (spoiler). Now for each individual.

Hiccup Haddock (Karasik) is growing up before our eyes. He is closer to the image that we saw in the sequel - determined, brave, strong (in one series we are waiting for an amazing discovery), inventive. Watching the young heir Berk and his loyal friend Toothless, there is no doubt that Hiccup becomes a true leader who can be relied on and who will lead his people to a bright future.

Astrid Hofferson gives the impression of a fearless warrior who is not afraid of anything, who, together with her dragon Gromgild, can resist an army of enemies, and who can train a squad of dragon riders. We also see her sensitivity and experience, teamwork with unexpected candidates. In addition, she remains a close friend and support of Hiccup. Their relationship is getting a long-awaited development, which made me absolutely delighted. And all the fandom.

Fisherman Ingerman - the main expert in the team, who can answer almost any question about dragons, madly adores his Grommel Sardelka, and remains one of the funniest characters of the animated series! Here we will definitely see from the unexpected side - ready for decisive action, risky operations, crazy ideas - a truly brave Viking!
Snotlout Jorgenson - if earlier we saw him as a bully and braggart, who rarely surprised us, now the representative of the Jorgenson family has changed for the better. He is still the same lover of bragging, but now Snotlout increasingly does the right thing, fights for the right thing, protects friends in battle, appreciates their friendship and friendship with his dragon Kriokfang. The way the character of this sometimes controversial hero developed, I really liked it!
Bitter and Toughass Thorstona are unpredictable and crazy twins, riders of the prestigehead Bars and Boar, who are still trying to drive each other and everyone around crazy. Often they manage to amaze us with their scientific knowledge, ahead of time, unusual plans of operations and witty jokes. But what moved me the most was how their relationship has changed - the twins are gradually realizing how much they mean to each other and what they are willing to do to save the other.

From familiar heroes we can see: Stoic Extensive, the leader of the Hooligan tribe, who will always help the Riders with advice, will provide the necessary support from the ground and from the air, and who is really proud of his son; Stoic Spitzer, a blacksmith-jocklist who likes both work in a blacksmith and a fight with the enemy; Sloppy Jorgenson, the father of Snotlout, with a bunch of obsessions that sometimes turn out to be very good.

More development is received - Dagur Orovely, who became even more insane during the years of imprisonment, and who has to go through a difficult path to knowledge of the values of life; Heder - returns in the form of a mysterious rider of the new dragon Shiporez.

From the new characters: the Grimborn brothers - the fierce Riker and the calculating Viggo, who are eager to take away the Dragon Eye in their favorite ways; as well as the mysterious tribe Defenders of the Wings, who are very biased against strangers and whose trust is very difficult to earn.
All my favorite foreign films and TV series are in the original. But here I literally fell in love with the voices of the heroes! This is facilitated by a large number of series. And that beloved actors again voiced their heroes. Therefore, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, TJ Miller, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Zach Perlman, Andre Vermelen, May Whitman, David Tennant, Alfred Molina, James Arnold Taylor - bravo!

I don’t need a thousand words to describe my love for the series and its characters, and to express my gratitude to its creators. I will say one thing - "Race to the Edge" conquered me, prompted me to repeatedly review films, short films, the first two seasons and wholeheartedly love the franchise How to Train Your Dragon! I am looking forward to the sixth (alas, final) season of Racing and the third part of the trilogy. I highly recommend it to all fans!

I'm a dragon fan. Movies, TV series, cartoons, in total everything related to them. When I first saw How to Train Your Dragon, I fell in love with this universe, this world, heroes, and of course Toothless. Then there were two seasons of the series: “Riders of the Berk” and “Defenders of the Berk”. We learned many details of the development of the relationship between the Vikings and dragons after the conclusion of the so-called peace, many new adventures, new friends and enemies.
Our heroes have grown up and we saw them in the new part of How to Train Your Dragon 2. It was very exciting, of course, because you’re afraid the sequel won’t be as beautiful as the beginning, but the creators didn’t disappoint.

Then came the spin-off series Dragons Race to the Edge. The action in the series precedes the events in the second part of the film, but the characters are older, as in the film.
I continue to enjoy watching the characters and events in their world. Honestly, I’m much more interested in following the characters who have grown up than when they were children. Relationships are more complex, decisions are more responsible, events are more dramatic. This is a cartoon, but it is equally interesting to watch as a child and an adult. The quality of the drawing has improved by several orders of magnitude, compared to the first two seasons of the series (" Riders and Defenders). Many new dragons, new dangers and new adventures.

To sum up, I want to express my deep gratitude to the creators for continuing to develop and complement a world where humans and dragons live in harmony.
All fans of Toothless are recommended to watch.
