In the woods. Maybe this is not such a beautiful film as "Sculptor's Dream" of the same 1907, but here Johann Schwarzer shows us the beauty of the human body, to which he devoted all his short films. In those days, when there were no candid magazines, the choice of “adult” media was not so great, so for closed screenings of such erotic films, the audience probably pulled like iron to the magnet.
For literally forty seconds, you see four naked women dancing in a forest clearing. Despite the fact that the film is black and white, it is obvious that bright sunlight falls on the characters. Either Schwarzer didn’t have enough film at the time, or he had no idea how to complete the scene, but compared to most of his other works, this one looks very short. But let’s not forget that in those days, cinema has not yet fully moved away from the stage of birth, so numerous experiments were conducted, alternating with films that did not pretend to be anything unusual. And does the plot of the video, in which the main thing is dancing forest nymphs?
The wreaths on his heads suggest that the director shows events taking place somewhere in the harsh Middle Ages, when the last remnants of paganism huddled in the most remote areas of Europe. In the background, by the way, you can see a fern, which has long been associated with a pointer to hidden jewelry. Perhaps we see a kind of Sabbath, although it is more reminiscent of light entertainment in the fresh air. Smiles and movements in which a minimum of vulgarity are the main features of Schwarzer’s films, so it is not possible to call them pornographic language.
A film for connoisseurs of beauty, released - try to realize - even before the Tunguska meteorite fell on our planet.
