There are only two things that I can call absolutely obvious: the first is “Congratulations,” the second is “Good luck.” Everything else, as I like to call it, is "the bitter truth" or, in other words, "I think so (imho)"".
And I think you've all been given one terrible piece of advice, and that advice is: follow your dreams.
Every time I watch the Oscars, I feel annoyed when a movie star with a trophy in his hand begins to reveal the secret of his success. Always the same: “Don’t let anyone doubt you!” or, most commonly, “Never betray your dream!”
You see, I understand the importance of perseverance, as well as the need for encouragement, but who would convince a stranger never to betray his dream without even knowing if he had one? How can Lady Gaga imagine where your dream will take you?
Have they never watched American Idol?
Year after year, thousands of aspiring American idols come with huge expectations. All just to find out that they do not have the skills that they expected to have.
What is surprising about all this, however, is not that they lack talent - the world is full of people who can't sing - but their genuine surprise when they are rejected in the selection process. This is the inevitable realization that their passions and abilities have nothing in common. Dreams collide with reality.
You see, when we talk about a hobby, you can follow your dreams and hobbies in every sense of the word. But when it comes to living on something, it is very easy to forget the very bitter truth: if you are very passionate about something, it does not mean that it will feed you.
And just because you got a specialty in the chosen direction does not mean that you will find / get a dream job.
The dream job is to dream about it.
