The eternal theme of the little man Why is this a comedy and not a drama? Because rule number one is no drama.
At first glance, the film plunges the viewer into a disgusting world 'hopobydla' the most natural reaction to which is to turn off without looking. In the end, no one will ever put this film in the number of classics, authority able to make treat with attention and respect to the fate of modern Akakiev Akakieviches, especially since instead of servile nothingness, disfigured by eternal need, before us rebel heroines.
Unlike the presentable intellectual-aesthetic ' Fatal Temptation' or 'Phantom thread', I think this is really a feminist film. There's a lot of sexual objectification that doesn't get chewed on by the viewer, instructively pointing out that you didn't know, which is bad. This is bad already a priori in the dead-end hopelessness of the fates of young heroines, for the most part remaining behind the scenes. The film tells about people living in conditions where it is normal to trade their youth, beauty, sexuality. When to interfere with the dirt of someone who is weaker than you, even in some very conventionally civilized framework - the norm. People have somehow overcome racism, but sexism, as the last bastion of pseudo-masculinity, still holds its ground.
In the center of what is happening is a woman, the main character, who can be called the salt of the earth. It does not kill oppressors, it does not call for barricades, it does not spread incriminating protest. What is she doing? Just lives and remains a person, refuses to give up to anger and injustice, actively helps, without falling into sentiments and theories. She supports someone who has fallen, but wants to get up and move on. It does not judge, nor is it exalted in sacrificial folly. Yes, the reality of her actions is not radically different, but it makes the world more tolerant, safer, and generally better for those around her. And let what is happening make you want to scream, this is a story about heroines who have nothing to lose but themselves. And they don't give up.
P.S. I will add that I believe what has been said because I have met such women. And I think their existence is based on radphem. Active kindness and care, and even in addition to spiritual ease and love of life, plus all the above despite the environment, I will not say that not inherent in men, but I can not capture such acquaintance. Alas.
