Since there are a lot of negative reviews, you will have to leave your - positive, as an objection. 1. Is the disadvantage of the adventure action movie the viewer understands how everything will end immediately after the appearance of the main characters in the frame? I think most good movies have that. 2. Is the film a disadvantage of choosing not to shoot in the pavilion, but in a real setting? The same is not true if the operator works well. After all, you can shoot well not only on a ship, but also in a cave. Conclusion - the operator pumped up that yes, then yes. But did it spoil the impression of an interesting story and a great performance of the actors, and everyone? Not to me. 3. It’s simple: if a movie is interesting to watch, it’s good. Even action movies are boring, like John Wick 4. I want to ask the critics, were you bored watching? Want to increase your viewing speed? Want to rewind for once? Nope? Then what do you want? ? 4. What is true is a film in the spirit of the 90s. And this is a big plus, since it is not interesting to review old action games, but you want something like this. You get it, look. 5. I almost forgot. Has anyone seen a white leopard before? How many different leopards have you seen in your life? If you have seen a lot, you should know that the features of the face of cats from individual to individual differ very markedly. Therefore, I do not see any reason to be outraged by the discrepancy between your personal idea of what a white leopard should look like in the frame and the created computer predator.
Very handsome action movie gave us old Cage in his old age. His dullest passers-by of recent years does not look at all like successful arthouse experiments, too. In fact, before us is a typical second-rate action movie, which was filled with all the video salons of the 90s. Well done, but without a hint of anything special. Director Powell created before that with the same Cage absolutely passable fantasy-fighter “In exile” this time still managed to give a better movie, which is not sorry to watch to the end and even enjoy it. True, the spectacle will clearly not be for everyone - "Primitive" is shot very average, contains a cloud of plot inconsistencies, and the promised leopard appears here God forbid three times in the entire film. The film is more about fighting in an enclosed space, where the next specialists, led by the main cool guy, are trying to catch a very bad guy, perfectly reminiscent of the budget version of Hannibal Lector. The rest of the story about illegal poaching here is screwed up only for the sake of appearance - so that there would be an excuse to create a more dangerous environment and cram the old moral that in extreme conditions we can all change. And then there is a pleasant play of former Hollywood stars - Cage here is damn good in the role of a brazen poacher, and Famke Janssen - in the role of a good-natured inspector, who at a time of danger manages to keep an avid cool head! Together they made a very nice duo. The action scenes here came out quite blurry, although a few dirty fights and a scene in which Cage a la John Rimbaud aiming at the bad guy with a bow is able to please lovers of old school. As a result, “Primitive” turned out to be a very cute action movie for exactly one view. You will not be able to remember, but go under the right mood - quite! We look forward to "Color from Other Worlds!"

When severe financial need forced Nicolas Cage to agree to almost every role offered to him, the world lost one of the most interesting and multifaceted actors, who could decorate himself as nominated for ' Oscar' drama and spectacular blockbuster like ' Rocks' or ' Treasures of the Nation'. Planning and inexorably descending down the social acting ladder, Cage had to understand that he was doing something wrong and from his former greatness will soon be no trace, but in the absence of other proposals, he has to act in anything, because it guarantees a small but stable earnings. Over the years of vegetating in second-rate cinema, who only did not have to play the owner of a bunch of prestigious awards and a representative of the glorious Coppola family. Cage, along with Hayden Christensen, frowned in distant China, flew a plane from which people began to disappear, confronted the alien through combat skill jiu-jitsu and revenged former comrades who put him under the blow of justice. Of course, each of these roles in something original, and yet Cage himself began to look the same and was in no hurry to use his famous expression and color where he saw no artistic prospects. Quite unusual for him was the appearance in the adventure thriller ' Animal Fury' where the actor was entrusted with the role of a noble conqueror of wild animals, but despite this feature, the film itself was quite typical for Cage, who continues to demonstrate absolute indiscriminateness about where to show his tired face.
So, the plot ' Animal Rage' introduces us to a skillful hunter named Franna Walsh (Cage), who is able to catch even the most dangerous predatory beast. Over the years of his career, Frank did not take anyone in his sights, but one beast constantly eluded him. We are talking about a mysterious white jaguar, which is not only difficult to notice, but also to catch. But once luck smiles at our hunter and the elusive predator falls into his hands. Now the most important task of Frank is to transport the jaguar to the customer, and for this the hero needs to rent a whole cargo ship, because in addition to one animal, the hunter carries with him many more cages with clawed trophies. It would seem that everything goes according to plan and you can relax, but the ship reserved by Frank is also delivered to the dangerous criminal Richard Loeffler (Kevin Durant), who must be taken to the United States at all costs. The authorities do not accept refusal, which means a dangerous passenger booked a seat, and the ship goes to sea and goes straight to its destination. And, of course, during the voyage on the ship there is an emergency, the criminal is released, and with him on the deck begins to wander and the white jaguar, which also does not sit in the cage.
Almost all the action of the story takes place in the conditions of the ship, and the most interesting thing is that the film crew led by director Nick Powell decided to abandon the use of scenery. That is, everything that happens on the screen was filmed on a real cargo ship. And in such conditions it is very difficult to work, because all sorts of things can get out of control. It is not clear why the authors ' Animal Fury' decided to go this way, and yet in terms of dedication they deserve praise. However, everything that happened in the future is already difficult to record in the asset of the film, because the story itself is presented as a completely unassuming action movie, in which it is difficult to find at least a few memorable scenes. Most of the timekeeping, the heroes led by Nicholas Cage will have to wander through the narrow corridors and deck of the ship, periodically encounter a criminal and animals, which is not a particularly exquisite entertainment. The director was never able to catch the dynamics, did not really study the problems of pumping suspense, and therefore it will be difficult for the viewer to imbue with feelings for anyone. This concerns both the hero Nicholas Cage, and other characters who have to literally serve the number.
As for the biggest celebrity who eventually made the film, Cage doesn’t really remember much. He plays a serious guy who has seen a lot, and this, in fact, the characteristic features of the main character end. It is important to know that in the chest of the hunter beats a hot heart and he is able not only to track down and catch dangerous animals, but also to help those who are in trouble. Quite typical for himself, the role of the villain was played by Kevin Duran, who is sometimes brought into questionable movies, but unlike Cage, he often manages to get out in more prestigious projects. Finally, disappointed with her cosmetic procedures Famke Janssen, clearly experiencing depression due to the approaching old age. The strange facial expressions of the actress caused by surgical interventions in the appearance led to the fact that it is impossible to take her dramatic efforts seriously.
Due to the obviously small budget of the film, the authors failed to recreate a worthy action on the ship, which became one of the biggest troubles that an ordinary viewer has to face during the viewing. But if gunfights and hand-to-hand fights are even more or less adequate, but the graphics with which the dangerous predator was presented do not stand up to any criticism. It is likely that the director would have to rely on natural shooting, using the services of trainers and real animals while working on the most spectacular scenes, but as a result, it was decided to seek help from not the most demanding masters of special effects, who did everything in their power for clearly small money. Unfortunately, the efforts presented were too little to impress the audience, but no one expected anything special from this film anyway. But in fact, for high-quality and inexpensive action, you can always find options if you want.
In the end, I want to say that ': Animal Fury' is not a movie worth spending your time on. Despite the participation of a serious cast, Nick Powell’s film turned out to be a typical optional action movie, which is very quickly forgotten and does not do much credit to anyone involved in the creative process.

"Beast Fury." Have you heard of this movie with Nicholas Cage? And you know that he is company once the central character of the cult original trilogy about the X-Men? I haven't heard. I didn't know. I am so glad I saw this.
The movie has low ratings. Because once Oscar-winning Nicholas for ten years in a row starred in films that used to just release on cassettes. But the last few years of his work are encouraging. First of all, his acting.
What a nostalgia when he again played an unshaven and drunk man with a questionable source of income. Trembling, I promise. Because he did it in Leaving Las Vegas in a way no one can. And in other moments, he was, as they say, alive!
And this despite the fact that we have an uncomplicated plot about a poacher who saves a ship with the coolest and most evil mercenary of all time. What haven't we seen in these stories? Honestly, we saw everything. But it's nice to look at the actors, at the images, listen to classic jokes for militants, enjoy the fervent muzzle and shootouts.
A little lubricated the picture of the graphics, because of which a rather watchable film acquired a touch of “cheapness”. But in general, the animals were well shown. And the factual writers prepared well.
It’s a shame I watched the movie alone. For such works, there should be a father nearby, who once rented a cassette for joint viewing while his mother is not home. This is a classic, slightly seasoned with freshness. And this is the Cage who seems to be back.
I don’t understand the understatement of this film. I even think that many people put them on automaton, like Russian cinema. Primal really deserves attention! To view it, I decided to see the trailer, captivating the casual viewer with a juicy picture, an action, an intriguing plot, Nicholas Cage.
This is really a very worthy thriller, telling a non-trivial story, making you worry about the lives of people, and sometimes even more so for the lives of animals. With such trepidation Frank's love for his pets is shown! When human life in his understanding is inferior to the life of a bird. Really, why love a man? Everyone demands something, talks about duty, honor, priorities, and animals are silent, understandable, they are driven by primitive instincts, this is what attracts the hero Nicholas Cage. At first it seems too bright, specific, but over the course of the film, you become imbued with his philosophy. In real life, everyone met such an extraordinary person: unceremonious, a little rude, principled, with a cigar in his teeth, drinking whiskey and poisoning interesting stories. Also, the main villain of the film is initially shown as an ordinary psychopath - evil in its pure form, but watching what is happening, all the cards are gradually revealed to us, and now we see not a mad cold-blooded killer, but a caged animal that was cruelly used and left without the right to a normal life. And here it seeks to escape to freedom to continue to live according to its wild laws, along the way depriving the lives of anyone who tries to stop it.
There are many interesting characters in the film, everyone has their own motivation to act, their own mission, their own fears. And that's why the movie is good. It touches on the value of animal and human life, the priorities of fulfilling military orders or protecting civilians, the political background, can a person be independent of society? Also during the film, Frank tells us about the characteristics of different animals. In general, the picture turned out to be very fascinating and bright. Even the graphic embodiment of animals seemed to me very high-quality, natural in the frame.
Cons that I can note: a couple of times I noticed a very curved mounted chromakey, and the music in general was not enough. The rest is a great movie for Friday night. The whole movie I was in an exciting tension, and it is already worth a lot! I highly recommend it!
The picture shows the rainforests of Brazil, its villagers and their superstitious fears. In general, with great trepidation I relate to this country and their culture, so the hot musical series of the film, I was periodically distracted, but it is magnificent.
In front of me appeared a worthy action movie about people trapped on the same cargo ship with the most dangerous predators in the world. With a white jaguar (not to be confused with the leader of the Arawaks) and a slightly bruised former marine, and now a war criminal, who, until a certain point, were kept in cages by their escorts.
The plot is simple and abounds with standard moves for the genre, but, in general, it is written well and the characters are sympathetic. Being a lover of simple action films, I quickly realized that I would like the picture. I was very interested in this idea of a confrontation between two predators, even if one of them is a person. It was interesting and extremely exciting. The film has a chic dynamics, no unnecessary snot and fuss. Many sharp and driving moments that adorn the film, making it more vivid and exciting.
Everything seems to be standard and clear, many actions are predictable and expected. However, all this is not so important, the very movement of the plot, smoothly and confidently heading along its timekeeping, fascinates, forcing you to stare at the screen. The movie has crazy charisma. This applies to both the main character of Frank and the whole picture. A real male movie, devoid of all sorts of embellishment and a huge number of special effects, which are now stuffed with almost all films that have a solid budget, and regardless of genre. To some extent, nostalgia gets through, remembering similar fighters from childhood!
Atmosphere at altitude - trapped on a ship in the open sea people confronting two predators. There was a real hunt for each other, the hunter at any moment could turn into a victim. In my opinion, the tape came out amazing, it was definitely not boring, and I just do not want to look for joints. The picture really gives a spectacle, not just suitable for viewing, but also keeping in constant tension. You can scold only for mediocre graphics - the white jaguar was really poorly drawn. The rest of the animals did not notice this.
Nicolas Cage is not a joke - this is his fourth film this year, and they came out very heapedly, in the fall, and on the way is another of his new work. The quality of his new work is far from his films of the late 90s - the beginning of zero, but compared to the films of recent years, better, at least do not want to spit on them. That's where it came out rough and brutal. There are no claims to him on the role, played perfectly. But the greater joy for me was participation in the film Famka Janssen. It happens when an actor hooks you up and you literally fall in love with him or her. So I have with Stephen Lang or Ravshana Kurkova. Famke Janssen for me the same favorite. It's a pleasure to watch her work, despite the fact that she doesn't show anything more than outstanding, but, man, I love her. The role of a negative character is played by Kevin Duran, who in the skin of such a villain feels like a fish in the water. Remember at least his Martin Kimi from the TV series Lost, just a bastard. He also noted for himself a familiar face of LaMonica Garrett, who currently plays a fateful role in the DCs TV series, playing the role of the Monitor.
I really liked the movie. Reading a lot of negative reviews and reviews of this film, inevitably there is a feeling that some nonsense will come out. However, you should trust your feelings and preferences. I trusted and watched a good picture for an hour and a half, under which I so chicly relaxed yesterday, coming home after a hard day at work. I hope there is someone else who will also appreciate this work. I definitely recommend watching this movie!
Nicholas Cage in his next film plays a rather unusual character for himself - animal hunter Frank Walsh, who was lucky once to catch the rarest white jaguar. Only here's the bad luck - on a ship ferrying animals and Walsh himself from point A to point B, a dangerous killer who manages to escape.
Nick Powell's film turned out to be quite bland and intriguing, unable to captivate the viewer due to its atmosphericity. The very story of a lone maniac taking over the ship, wandering through the semi-dark corridors, anticipating danger from any angle, not only from the killer, but also from predatory animals, could add to the picture of fascinating, but this did not happen.
Although not the best examples - "Virus" in 1999 and "Ghost Ship" (but there is a better example - "Triangle") - these are paintings that fully use the limited space of the ship, showing running through the corridors and cabins, although the characters perfectly understand that they can not escape from the ship - around the water. In “Primitive” all throwing on the floating means occur too slowly, as if the Americans were invaded by Estonians who decided that the “silent you go, the further you will.”
Surprisingly, in addition to Cage, the director managed to attract a couple more recognizable faces to his obviously cheap project. The role of the same criminal was played by Kevin Durant, and Famke Janssen performed the role of a military lady, who was destined to appear in the frame so that the boring story could at least be a little revived. Although the 55-year-old actress, clearly outwitted with plastic surgery, acts here as an unnatural doll, which is difficult to smile. Complete zero facial expressions on the face negatively affects the character, and the viewer only has to remember the glorious times of the first two parts of “X-Men” and “Faculty”, when the Dutch actress was really good.
The computer graphics of “Primitive” reminded of another film about a predator from the cat family. In 2002, the film “Sabre Tooth” was released, in which one could see an unnatural tiger, clearly out of place against the background of natural nature. And in general, the graphics of the new film with Cage are a reference to the films of the beginning of the zero, when semi-plastic giant spiders attacked people, and the incredible size of the anaconda strangled the unfortunate who were in their way.
The film does not leave the best impressions. Second-rate effects, weak acting (here and Janssen after Cage, it seems, goes into circulation), unexpressively pumped plot episodes concerning various kinds of surprises. The general atmosphere of despondency is complemented by the unwillingness of the cast to show at least a small share of their professionalism. From the rush that the viewer sees for almost an hour and a half (after all, the events on the ship do not occupy the entire film), it is impossible to say for sure whether they are looking for a killer or are participants in the next series of the show “Fort Boyard”.
The only thing that can be positive is the title of the film. “Primitive” or “Beast Fury” may well refer not only to the predator caught by Cage’s hero, but also to the character of Duran, who actually looks like a predator in human form.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
"Primitive" begins as every late Nicolas Cage film should begin: our star sits on a tree somewhere in the Brazilian jungle, smoking a cigar and boasting a stylish beard. Cage plays Frank Walsh, a poacher who catches a legendary white jaguar nicknamed “Ghost Cat.” He has to deliver the order to the client, only here the transport ship is captured by the escaped prisoner Richard Loeffler, merrily dealing with the convoys, crew and some flight CIA agents. In general, Cage feels at home.
Better than Primitive can boast (besides the impressive poster) is this premise that goes back to the glorious days of the 90s. The wonderful time when the directors of B-movie were impressed with "Air Prison" or "In Siege", clearly influenced "Primitive" - to present this film in that era is easy. The main character came out as if from those times - "Humphrey Bogart on overexposure" is unlikely to now be suitable for the first association with the hero of the action movie, but certainly fits well into the role of the crumpled and unshaven Nicholas Cage.
Most of the plot is a lifeless game of cat and mouse (where there is an escaped criminal and a jaguar!). The film crew made the controversial decision to shoot the film on a real cargo ship. Because of this, everything is covered with some nefarious yellow filter. It hits the atmosphere very hard. Given that most of the film is made up of people yelling at each other, moving from one room to another, plausibility is not the best choice. Too soft and unstable action leads to the fact that the most exciting part of the film, suddenly, the one where the villain decides not to fight anyone.
Calm moments are as chaotic as action. Actors and their characters are introduced into the plot without a primary purpose. Famke Janssen plays a romantic interest - a military doctor, the plot twist bites at once, and the child has only one goal - to be saved by the brave Nicholas.
"Primitive" could have won through conceptual solutions, but budget intervened. Exotic animals bring a couple of passing scenes to life, but those short episodes seem disappointing against the backdrop of the rest of the film. For example, Frank has a parrot, but he does not play a special role. As for the ghost jaguar, it is limited: there are a couple of short and spectacular scenes with the cat and yet the appearance of the animal, as if out of play on Playstation. 2, spoils the whole impression.
The film, which takes place almost entirely on a cargo ship, is another disgraceful record in Nicolas Cage's filmography, albeit one that can evoke nostalgia for the crazy 90s action. Cage himself can see how each new scene solves certain financial problems of the once outstanding actor. This time, our "wedding general" got into the symbiosis of "In Siege" and "Snake Flight", without the budget of the first and comedy inserts of the second. Well, hiring Cage, one hopes that he will be more interesting on the screen than on paper, but in “Primitive”, despite the increased quality compared to other projects of Nicholas in 2019 (“Old Accounts”, “Cocaine Baron”, “Chain of Killings”), the actor was not in the mood: poisonous snakes, pesky parrot and computer-drawn monkeys suddenly cause more interest than the prodigal son of the Coppola dynasty.
