Needing a loving heart Loud premieres these days are not enough and in cinemas, except for single projects, there is nothing else to watch. No word at all. Here are the trailers of films that came out three years ago (as in the case of “Invisible Girl” or “Rising above the Shadow”, as its second name sounds). On the fishless, as they say, and cancer fish, so this project in principle deserves attention.
Holly (Olivia Thirlby) became invisible when her mother died. One day, her brother and sister, as well as her father, simply stopped noticing her, as well as everyone around her. Years later, when she grew up, she met Shane (Alan Richson) by chance in one of the bars where she made a living by filming showbiz stars doing obscene things for the yellow press. 5 years ago, he was an MMA star, but it was the “yellow” photos taken by Holly that ruined his personal life and career as an athlete. Because of this, he was forced to go to work in a bar bouncer and interrupted by casual earnings. It turns out that Shane is the only one who sees and hears Holly, which means he is her only hope of becoming visible again. Possibly.
The film itself does not explain why the girl suddenly disappeared to everyone and why everything she picks up or put on her clothes also become invisible. Why, if she is sitting in a soft chair, there are no dented marks left from her, why no one sees her taking food or a glass or any other object? Claudia Myers did not go into such details, focusing her attention on a kind of philosophical component.
It is no wonder to guess that the invisibility of the main character is partly allegorical. Yes, she is invisible to everyone in fact, but this state of her can be interpreted as the state of the girl in the world around her. She became invisible in childhood, when her relatives and peers did not take into account her opinion. Only my mother was the person who always cared and cared about Holly. When her mother died, she lost the only person who connected her with the outside world. With the loss of his mother, this relationship broke down and she became a shadow of herself (it is no coincidence that the film is called Shadow Girl).
The same goes for Alan Richson, who, as a result of his past mistakes, has become a shadow of himself in the present. Two souls close in terms of existence in this world, met not by chance, but in order to try to help each other. But if Holly’s help to Shane can be productive and the athlete’s career is ready to go uphill again, then things are a little more complicated in the opposite direction, because it is not clear whether the girl will be able to become visible and audible again.
Again, many of the nuances in the film regarding Holly’s invisibility are not specified and the viewer can only guess what the director wanted to show and tell. In my opinion, Holly had to find love again. And mutually, the same as she had with her mother. There is no other way to explain why during a random shot from the paparazzi, its outlines suddenly appeared in the photo. Love must necessarily come from both sides in order for the girl to become the same as she once was in childhood.
In support of this hypothesis, the fact that a third person appears on the horizon, creating a love triangle. This is Shane's ex, who is presented as a spinner, ready to be with someone who is on the wave of success. But if a person drowned in a wave, then you can be sure - it will not be near. For Megan Fox, the role in this film is a secondary female role and it is impossible to say that she is surprised by something. The star hour of the actress, obviously, was in “Transformers”, because now the actress is not able to imagine anything in the movies except her butt. On the face, by the way, she also changed and apparently a couple of plastic surgeries without a trace did not pass - it is difficult to call it a transformation, because Fox on the face is no longer so attractive.
Without using any special effects, Claudia Myers was able to make the viewer feel that Holly is really invisible. And it is not even in the frequent changes of frames, during which this effect is achieved, but in the fact that the film is full of episodes when she is present next to other people, but they do not notice her. The reception is not bad, since many actors in such scenes played really as if there was an empty place next to them. However, this also does not explain why other people do not notice that something is wrong around them (the same crushed chair does not catch the eye).
“Invisible Girl” is not a bad film, but it is not without its shortcomings. Obviously, invisibility is not a director’s idea, but rather a weakness of the script, which its author could not turn into a strength. But here there is BUT, because it is not about invisibility as a physical state of the body, but about invisibility as a state of the soul.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Enjoy your visit.
