Myers identification Oh, how many guys have woken up and remembered nothing of what happened in the last few days or nothing at all! What only stories the viewer did not see and to what only denouements all this did not lead!
“Before I Go to Sleep,” “50 First Kisses,” “Unknown,” “Remember,” “The Bourne Identity,” “Faces in the Crowd,” “Remember Everything”—nothing to list. And as you can see from this short list - the genre of films about memory loss can be very different.
About a man who woke up in the hospital and does not remember who he is and a new film with Jonathan Reese Myers in the title role, which can be translated as “Wake up” or “Awakening”.
So, Myers plays John Doe (as in the US they call unidentified bodies or people who do not remember who they are, and women in similar situations are called Jane Doe). He woke up in the hospital with a bandage of head and face, does not remember who he was or how he ended up in a hospital bed. In parallel, the FBI and the cops are looking for a serial maniac who rapes and kills girls. And naturally, the two storylines intertwine, and John Doe becomes the prime suspect. But is he the real killer? Has he actually lost his memory or is he trying to manipulate people in this way? In general, there are a lot of questions and everything is not immediately answered.
There’s one question you can’t answer – why did William Forsyth get so fat? Stopped watching yourself or something sick, why so fat. But now he has turned into some unkempt fat man with a giant belly, a thick neck and an idiotic hairstyle that looks more like a mop on his head.
Oh, come on. It's all secondary.
The film, with the exception of the story of a memory-lost man and a serial killer, is actually unattractive and interesting. There is little adequacy in it, and not from anyone in particular, but in principle from everyone. The FBI agent in the person of Malik Yoba turns out to be incredibly stupid and incompetent (this conclusion is based on the scene with a machine gun distributing drinks and food - you will see and understand everything), because for him, the devour is more important than the suspect. The heroine Francesca Eastwood (although her actions are explained later) acts as an obedient sheep, suddenly believing that she can help.
Cops standing with a car barrier are dumb as a traffic jam, because they listen to the chirping sparrows and do not do their job properly, missing important characters from under their noses. Strange can be called the behavior of the hero Myers, who kind of seeks to find out who he is, to remember his past, and on the other hand is afraid that “he will be recognized.” And in principle, the strange behavior of those who probably knew him before he lost his memory, but after what happened to John Doe, as if all the inhabitants of a small town lost their memory - as if the same thing happened to them as to him. All the more stupid is the episode of Jonathan Reese Meyers surfing the Internet and stumbling across a very familiar face in the photo - if he managed to find him so easily (this photo), then why did none of those who follow him do the same? Delusion!
Considering the circumstances in which John Doe was in trouble, it is strange that he was not put on trial as a prime suspect back then. And basically, how did he get to the hospital? You came there yourself? Not likely, given his injuries. Was he brought there? Then why didn't the cops take him into circulation even then and put a guard on him?
In the film, a flashback appears in the memory of the hero Reese Myers, referring to one of the victims, who addresses him with one amusing phrase, but this branch of the narrative ends where it began. The director, saying “A”, did not bother to even try to say “B” to develop this storyline, add an interesting movement, explain to the viewer the relationship between a potential killer and a victim.
The plot of the film, although not new, but in general interesting, but the ultra-weak implementation mowed down everything that could be turned into at least a watchable thriller. In fact, the Russian director Alexander Chernyaev issued a talentless and raw project, after which he is unlikely to be offered a job in the United States.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Enjoy your visit.
