Fifteen thousand euros (something in the region of 1,200,000 rubles, the price of a used foreign car) budget. Timekeeping hour. Filming in different locations. Graphics, enough caste. Sounds like a miracle, doesn’t it?
The film tells the backstory of Voldemort, for the most part - the period after Hogwarts, when Tom worked in the shop of Gorbin and Barks. However, what is surprising at first, the story does not come from his face - about the events to us, in flashbacks and verbally, tells Grisha McLaghan, the heiress of Griffindor. She, being a obscurantist investigating the murder of Hepziba Smith, fights her way into the Soviet branch of the auroratus, wanting to get Riddle’s diary. However, her adventure was not successful - she is caught and taken for questioning to General Makarov for interrogation, during which she gradually reveals the deeds of the Dark Lord.
And damn it, it's interesting. The action scenes (of which, due to budget, few - and in Harry Potter, any action scene implies graphics) are interspersed with dialogue, and the plot inexorably twists. And that's amazing!
What's not awesome? Well, I guess Tom is suddenly portrayed as overly repulsive, cold, angry and sarcastic. Yes, he had already killed Myrtle even at the time of the high school episodes, but don’t forget, he somehow got into the trust of old Smith (and she wouldn’t be thrilled to talk to such a Tom). The introduction of the heirs to the plot is also controversial - after all, this is not in the canon, but this perfectly explains the appearance of the Cup in an elderly witch. The same questions arise about Grisha - where did she go in the course of further events and is Cormac McLaghan her relative (and heir to Griffindor)?
Voldemort: The Roots of the Heir should be seen as a low-budget film, a non-commercial film, creating fans and for the same fans. Otherwise, you will immediately want to find fault with the picture, special effects, costumes. I didn't have that desire.
There are serious differences with the canon.
But... Guys are really good. I want to say that if I tried to do something myself, I am not sure that it would be anything as colorful. But in terms of plot, everything is of course one-sided and naive. On the other hand, it is the embodiment of fan creativity.
And the actor Stefano Rossi plays the young Dark Lord almost perfectly - attractive, wrong, almost on the verge of normality - but that is how we remember him in our youth. Conceptually, vividly, expressively shown the heirs of the founders of Hogwarts. I especially liked the heir to Cogtevran.
And yes, we've got a little bit of a glimpse into the alternate history of the wizarding world. Still alluring, scary and "real." There are no sweet shades - dangerous, but attractive for its difference from the boring reality.
I mean, the perfect video sequences are probably Jim Kay illustrations -- I just love them. And here it is fan art – but you know, in such a short screen time we see such a holistic depiction of characters – everyone has his own truth, his story, his worldview.
Perhaps we will see someone later in other projects, as was the case with “Very Potter musical”.
Fans of the Harry Potter Universe are welcome! All the rest of you go by.
I will leave a neutral review, as I do not want to dwell on the quality of the picture.
1) What I want to say about the canon, the authors overdid with the image of someone who can not be called in too attractive light. What he did in the world, how many murders he committed. No matter how mysterious and attractive young Tom is, there is no excuse for what he did. Hitler can also be justified.
2) You guys are serious, Dumbledore only started his investigation into the Horcruxes when he came across proof of it. Where would he come from an ordinary employee, if Tom himself hid his treasure very carefully is not clear.
and 3) Guys, don't make this killer look too good. What he did cannot be justified. Yes, I understand that this is all very interesting, but no more.
I'm waiting for the Bellatrix part. How charming this woman was (when she tortured Neville's parents to the point of madness) and da Helena is cool. .
I liked the quality of the picture and the special effects, and the actors were also cool.
As a big fan of the universe, I’ve been expecting something for a long time that wasn’t woven into the story of The Boy Who Survived (Fantastic Beasts Don’t Count). In general, any little bit of history, even samizdat, makes my trembling fan heart write out kulbits. Yes, you can find fault with anything, but do not forget that this is a SAMIZDAT, for which a bunch of enthusiasts collected money almost from their wallet, so Warner Brazerov special effects do not have to wait. And here and not at all, at the forefront is the story itself, which, fortunately, strictly adheres to the canons, the picture itself can be tolerated.
The caste is very well selected. In my opinion, Stefano Rossi was able to fully convey the madness of Tom, who cold-bloodedly crosses over his friends, I will not fear the word, in order to achieve his plans.
Of course, this is my subjective opinion, but as a true Potteroman, I am ready to wait, watch, read anything about the saga, of course, if it is within the framework of the canon.
Therefore, I can summarize that not a fan who has not lived through the whole universe will simply not appreciate, because, as the opening theme says, “the film was created by fans for fans.”
9 out of 10
Tom Marvolo Riddle is a great resource for creating a cool series, and the first impetus was given by this film collected by fans of the world of JK Rowling.
As a fan of the Harry Potter series, I will never be enough of any incarnations about this magical world, where you can draw inspiration or forget about it to the point that you can end up in a psychiatric hospital fighting off orderlies with a piece of something wooden and shouting ' Expediarmus' in my case, it costs ' Nimbus-2000' in your hands. When I see a broom I forget the spell of obedience, in the end it remains to sweep... er, something I’m not about.
Voldemort: The Roots of the Heir is a low-budget film consisting of several good special effects, good dialogues between the main characters and then think about it yourself, because I write at one o’clock in the morning and I can’t figure out how to describe what I saw. What I remember is the image of Tom and his blue eyes. The story touches on Tom’s youth and transformation, but it’s all served up at a very fast pace of one hour of screen time... what the heck, a 7-season series deserves this character. I want to see how he studied, acquired knowledge, came into contact with other students, see the relationship with Dumbledore. I also wanted the series to be dark, but at the same time and bright (like the 3rd part of Harry Potter & #39; Prisoner of Azkaban & #39); to reveal Tom Riddle as a character very deeply, but not to focus only on him. There are many interesting characters in this world that could be put on the screen. The foundation of history is there, it remains to consolidate it. I would rather buy the rights to the series.
The film deserves the attention of Muggles, although the budget of the film is small in it there is a main feature - it is an incentive to develop the wizarding world more extensively.
It's not a movie, it's a movie story. It's like an audio book, just with a picture.
I'm not a Harry Potter fan, I've seen all of his movies because a girl forced me to. I just don’t like movies with magic on the screen, because for me it is always incomprehensible in this case, the alignment of forces, who has what opportunities. In ' unexpected' turns I often think: 'a, so he can also like this', ' he can wave a stick and solve this problem easily, why doesn't he?' etc... I can’t wait to watch these movies with indifference. This is my position.
>>
I'll start with the pluses.
I see it as a non-commercial film. I was very pleased with the special effects. Of course, this is not a complete copy of the original effects, but they look, in my opinion, qualitative. It is worthy to release them on the big screen. Special effects receive 10
There is a big plus - the manner of shooting as in the first person at the beginning of the film. It turned out very dynamic, very cool and brings ' fresh stream'. Professional level. Especially when you consider that similar scenes in Hollywood (or British) blockbusters are 100 times more expensive and do not look (much) better. The selection of plans in dialogue throughout the film is also carefully verified. Therefore, Operators and Director - 10.
No, there are certainly some things that betray their lack of experience. For example, when one character looked at the cup in his hands, the focus remained on the character, although it was suggested to transfer the focus to the cup, but the focus was never translated. But these are small things.
In general, similarly, I would like to praise the rest - specialists who chose and finished the backgrounds; actors; costumers - all worked together, not bad.
But there is a minus.
As always, this is a scenario.
First of all, nobody knows who in the Harry Potter universe has a foot in the teeth. Though it's understandable - shot for fans.
Secondly, the film (I don’t take into account the amazing dynamic beginning) is more just a story from a slideshow than a movie. That is, the author of the idea wanted to share an interesting story - he took 5 locations, put static storytellers there, who constantly murmur the whole film. They barely move. There's no action in the movie. Just chatter-chatter-chatter, a change of location, in it two fixed figures read the text in a continuous text, again a new location - and there I no longer expect anything to happen, etc. I kept thinking, ' when the movie would start ' and it never started. In the last frames just began the movement, unexpected ending and credits.
It is because of the script that I would not give a high rating to this film, if it were a professional high-budget film, because it already causes yawning. It looks boring, although the crew (including the actors) tried to diversify the picture as much as they could.
And yes. The Russians were fine. Without stereotypes like ' Russian is bad ' Of course, with stereotypes about the weather and clothes, but in general I liked the Russians.
Result:
It's not a movie. This is a picture story -- a movie story. The movie shows the action. In the movie will show how the cup was transferred, and in the film story, just one character to another on a beautiful background will tell : ' And he handed me the cup' - and how exactly this happened, the viewer will have to imagine it mentally. Similarly, the author could hire only one actor instead of ten, some old wise Hogwarts teacher 39, who would read the whole story in one authentically decorated room in one person - this is how this film looks.
No, of course they play roles, compete. But, nevertheless, the film is slightly less than completely consists of retelling events and uttering emotions, rather than the real life of living characters. The film will tell ' he trusted Tom' The film will show scenes from which the viewer will draw a conclusion about it. The film will say: ' he was very worried ' The movie will show experiences. There are a lot of talking . Of course, everything depends on the budget, but I’m talking about the final product, what happened at the output.
Therefore:
Are you a Harry Potter fan? Look. It's a great movie, you know the backstory with an unexpected, interesting ending. You might even say ' wow, that's a yes' Moreover, the author of Harry Potter (her name is Rowling?) very much praised this film and separately the performer of the role of Voldemort. That means something.
Aren't you a Harry Potter fan? I am afraid you will lose interest in the film in the 10th minute, when the dynamic scenes are over.

'Voldemort: the roots of the heir' - a juicy spit in the face of all fans of the Harry Potter saga. Became the work of an independent group for the most part Italian enthusiasts, the film, the money for which was collected literally by the whole world - with the help of crowdfunding service Kickstarter, first of all, unpleasantly surprises with strange effects - it seems that the director (Gianmaria Pezzato) has not seen a single film about ' Young Wizard' or about Newt Scamander ('FT'). I will not 'spoiler' and reveal some hidden secrets - you will see everything yourself if you decide to look.
It is worth noting that only a small part of the shooting took place in the same place where the official films of the Harry Potter series were filmed. I understand that the creators managed to collect only some 15-20 thousand euros, but, sorry, this is a masterpiece & #39; and this money is not worth it. Is all this fan merch worth so much? I doubt it.
P.S. The main action of the picture takes place in the USSR, and we all know perfectly well as our Western 'friends' know how to depict Soviet soldiers on the screen (remember 'Red Heat' and 'RED') - this is how comical it is so poor.
