Nanda Gopalan Kumaran will rule. . Again with Surya and again about politics. And politics, as you know, is a very dirty business. For a long time I did not watch anything with Surya, so I climbed here, in this film, although I knew that I would not see anything good here. I was bribed by the fact that it was directed by Selvaraghavan, who directed Another World and One in a Thousand. YI maniacs will understand. This uncle with left carvings and his films are, to put it mildly, non-standard. You may like them or not, but you can’t confuse them with others. And here's what I saw this time -- oh, well, at all. After such films, life is very sad. Because our countries are similar in many ways. Both Hindus and Russians (especially in the rural hinterland) are largely passive and do not want to change anything in their lives until they are personally affected. In terms of living standards, we will soon catch up with them, and then there will be a complete similarity. The only thing that distinguishes us is religion, and we have no caste. So the mentality is very similar. There are those in India who gnaw at each other’s throats to win power, and there are those who ‘God forbid’ to associate with power. “We are somehow on our own, but power is on its own,” they say.34 Politicians are somehow elected for five years, officials somehow earn millions, and ordinary peasants somehow puff on their plots in an attempt to earn money. Yeah... the deja vu effect, definitely.
So, Surya, or rather, his hero, Nanda Gopalan Kumaran (abbreviated as NGC) is an educated young (Surya can still play young husbands) person who is engaged in organic agriculture. It pisses off people who sell fertilizers and pesticides and stuff like that. They burn his crops and supporters' homes. The NGC has learned from bitter experience that nothing can be done without political support in such a democracy. And getting into politics... Everything would be fine, but what did it cost him? That’s what the whole movie is about.
Selvaraghavan has been making films for a long time. Of course, the actors immensely respect this director and obey everything. But in this movie, it came out sideways for the film itself. Everyone looks extremely unnatural, except for Surya himself. He was alone, as usual, and pulled all the action. In the role of assistant minister, when he was cleaning toilets and cooking, he looked brilliant. It's kind of a fool Nandoo. But all this was not for nothing, but with intent. The others, both Siya Pallawi and Rakul Preet Singh, were convincing only in scenes when they were dogging for the NGC. By the way, I never understood the status of Rakul in relation to the NGC. Rakul played a "strong woman," I would even say a bitch, who helped the NGC enter the political Olympus. Were they lovers? I think he did, but he loved his wife. You can't understand them.
Separately about politicians in Tamil Nadu. It is no longer enough to show them to be corrupt. People seem to be getting used to it. Here they were shown by drunken womanizers to enhance the effect, apparently. Oh, and illiterate. To belittle them altogether. But even without this, the actors for the role of politicians were chosen straight nasty, with nasty faces. They will do anything to achieve their goals – murder, blackmail, bribery. The list goes on.
Next, the choreography. Terrible dancing. It seems that the director has decided to arrange a sudden vacation of Rakul and Surye abroad. So we see a romantic song that has nothing to do with history. Suriya just moves his collar and seems to mimic Salman Khan rocking his hips in the hit song. The songs are separate, the film is separate. Depressing.
The most powerful scene, in my opinion, is when, on the way to the market where he is due to perform, the NGK and his wife were hit with knives. But he still came and climbed onto the stage. He is told that his father and mother were burned alive in their own home. And how he reacts to it. That's when I got my hands on something. I told you, Surya is alone in the whole movie and pulling... Cinema is not entertaining, murky, heavy. If you are not a fan of Surya Shivakumar, then it is better not to watch.
