Another fake. “One-time” films like this are a huge number in American cinema. A meager budget, unknown actors, a frankly empty script - except that the diligent play of the characters, but the inscription "based on real events" is able to attract the viewer. But neither of these, unfortunately, is observed here.
And it seems that there was an attempt to bring it closer to the “big movie”. Heroes have long monologues about the fate of the postwar world, the role of American soldiers in the fight against “one tyrant thirsty for power.” But these philosophical conversations smell of pathetic naphthalene, clearly memorized (do not come from the heart) and designed only for the Western viewer, which is sure, if not for the United States – Hitler would still own Europe. That's why they get tired quickly. What is the only monologue behind the fire at the medical unit of the main character - Sergeant Gregory Faolcone, which lasted one plan for more than 22 minutes! After all, the viewer watching such military films expects from the plot primarily action.
The latter is also present here, but it is set so cheap and ridiculous that you just wonder. The actors diligently squeeze into 10-centimeter trenches, hiding from mortar trenches. Explosions from the latter do not reach even small firecrackers, which can be bought on the neighboring market, and there is no need to talk about behavior in battle, any tactics at all. So is acting. Five brave prisoners first think about how to escape. Then he digs a mogul for himself, and only when they begin to kill them, he decides, because they are accompanied by four of the same practically unarmed Germans! Have you ever wanted to run before?
According to the opening credits, the action takes place in December 1944 in a Belgian forest. Heroes constantly complain of wild and fierce cold, "shivering to the bones." However, on the frame you can not see snow at all, ... woodpeckers knock and birds sing in full swing. And the sun's rays are always blinding! Where's the logic? It is clear that the dramatic events of the end of 1944 near the Ardennes for the Anglo-American allies are the most profitable option for filmmakers: the Germans counterattack, "on one killed Fritz - 20 Americans", the danger of encirclement and turning in the war. Such “one-off” films love the Ardennes of the 44th: “Battle of the Ardennes” (2018), “The Last Battle” (2014), “Winter War” (2017). However, at least it was filmed in winter, but not in summer. I couldn’t believe what was happening on the screen anymore.
You can't say much about actors. Basically, they dissuade replicas with a serenely stone face, diligently try to depict the suffering at the death of their comrades, only one indifference comes out. At least Nurse Jackie tries, but she is clearly lacking in level. As a result, they often had to watch individual episodes, fiercely fighting the desire to watch something else.
