Spring, youth and love Mitsuki Matsuoka is a shy freshman at Seiryo High School. The girl is very timid and shy, and therefore suffers greatly. But she struggles to make friends. To her dismay, four popular guys on the basketball team walk into the cafe she works in. Initially, Mitsuki doubts about them, but gradually getting closer, he realizes that he was wrong. She quickly makes friends with them, especially Tova, gradually revealing herself and realizing that these four make her life better and the girl herself stronger. But she doesn’t know that one of them feels the same way. As soon as Mitsuki realizes that she is in love with Tova, her childhood friend Aya returns to her life. But now, for some reason, she is a boy.
This is a film about growing up, growing up, and, of course, finding yourself. Answer the questions that make us more confident and better, the people who make us stronger and are the center of our world. On the one hand, it may seem that “Waiting for Spring” is another project about the life of young people, the first love, the problem of choosing between guys who are ready to fight for the heart and attention of their girlfriend. The classic plot, which is released in dozens of years only in Japanese cinema, but there is a highlight among them - for example, the willingness to sacrifice, take into account the opinions of others and not put yourself in the first place. The film by Yuichiro Hirakawa in this respect is very similar to “Blinded by You” (2015), as with many other similar projects. However, this film has its own highlight.
And this is not only the topic of sports, a rather controversial, in my opinion, the moment of “girl – boy” in the image of Ayia Kamiyama (a tribute to the traditional LGBT trend in art?), but also the fact that almost every hero stands at a crossroads here. Matsuoka gives confidence to Tova, in turn, the guy together with friends gives strength to Mitsuki Matsuoka herself, Aya can not forget her childhood connection with Mitsuki and nourishes her energy - that's what we see that classic love triangle. Only if one is ready to act, assertive and often audacious, then the other cannot overcome his own shyness, admit his feelings even to himself. One way or another, Aya and Tova are forced to clash together: on the basketball court, in minute meetings at training, a casual verbal spat, clarifying the relationship. And Mitsuki will have to make a choice.
Sometimes the plot is replete with platitudes, such as a fireworks festival, a kiss at the countdown to the new year, throwing a girl between her own essay contest and the final tournament of guys, which ended in a hasty flight. But this is what gives the plot romance and drama, makes the viewer experience and enjoy the moment. In general, if you want romance, have a good time, then this film will allow it, just do not count on anything special.
