Evil is not what it seems. I can't say that I like ghost movies or paranormal phenomena, but I can't miss the mocumentary. This manner of shooting attracts me in a mysterious way, and although most of these pictures turn out to be low-grade products, I can not help myself. So in this case, after reading the description, I did not expect to see anything worthwhile, but I really wanted to see.
Nick moves from London to a smaller town. Our hero likes to film everything that happens to him, so his move gets caught on camera. Having settled into a new place, Nick decides to shoot his usual classes in the house, and puts several cameras there. Gradually, he notices that strange things are happening in his new home.
Looking like a normal story about paranormal, I thought, and decided that nothing interesting to expect. Especially since at first there were standard things for the genre: steps in empty rooms, strange sounds, moving objects without the influence of the hero, and already annoying doors opening by themselves. Although, it is worth noting that watching was not boring, this is the merit of a very good acting, which is why the main character looked very lively and interesting character. But there was nothing terrible, at least for the experienced viewer.
And only in the second half of the film begin unusual moments that begin to heat up the atmosphere and sometimes even frighten. Gradually we realize that the hero faced something much more terrible than just a poltergeist or a ghost. Something similar happened to the first V/H/S story. Separately, I will note the ending, which explains a lot and even claims to have some plot twist.
The special effects here are simple, the film is frightening mainly by the growing atmosphere and various sounds. It seems like nothing special, but something catches. Closer to the end, you catch yourself thinking that what is happening on the screen really keeps you in suspense. What's missing here are the screamers. There is no word for it at all.
In general, we have a case where you can say “simply, but with taste”. In the category of best horror films, I would not include this film, but once to watch highly recommended. Especially if you are a lover of “found films”, and have already seen a lot of similar works. Believe me, this picture has something to surprise you.
