First season Sometimes a movie or series loses a lot from the localization of its title. So, the series “Hassel” lost its essence, becoming in the Russian version of “Conspiracy”. Of course, the laconic surname of the main character, perhaps, says a lot to any Swede, and absolutely does not say anything to the domestic viewer, and “Collusion” is able to attract more than “Hassel”. But now there is another problem: this series is not about collusion, first of all, but about the hero, and just the name goes more and more characterizes the content.
The series is very centered on the main character, and all without exception storylines, storytelling style - everything is twisted around him. Roland Hassel is the embodiment of brutality, even courage, chosen for him the profession of a policeman like no other should suit him, for few others delegated the right of the state to violence. Hassel embodies the image of a rebel, even a rock star, on the accompanying musical theme, on a cocky black Mercedes, on clothes, headdress, even on gait. However, this image says something else about the hero: about the almost complete absence of any brakes in his activities, which is clearly and quite unequivocally demonstrated on the screen. Hassel and his team, being, by design, effective and unique, apply to offenders methods that are often quite incomparable with the crimes committed, so that their actions are a crime almost more than what they punish. No advanced state will ever allow its employees to torture anyone with a screwdriver, beat them to bloody snot, kidnap them, kill them right and left. Hassel’s team and himself, instead of drawing sympathy and almost admiration from the courage and audacity of their actions, are repulsed, because they are in fact thugs in uniform, and they are in no way justified by the fact that neither corruption nor anything aimed at their own gain is smeared. This is the case when methods decide, not motives.
As for the main storylines, the place has the main detective, associated with the investigation of the murder, personal line and professional line. Each is directly related to Hassel and reflects on him, even if you do not take into account the fact that they will cross another two hundred times. The main detective is not very protracted, but at least it is not too twisted, so every next decision and action is more or less clear. As usual, the story is personal, dedicated not only and not so much to solving the murder of a beloved boss, but to the knowledge of this person. With each step, the discoveries made about his life, his actions and his character traits would have to influence Hassel as the closest person to the man killed. Realizing that someone who has blindly believed all his life, who was almost an idol, is not who he thought he was – it hurts, but Hassel reacts weakly. There is no piercing crush from the realization of crumbling ideals. Maybe it has to do with the brutality, but the emotion is lacking. Maybe the hero himself is not capable of normal human feelings? Paradoxically, one of the scenes in the middle of the series with the fantastic debacle of the team, with terrible consequences, from a moral point of view did not affect any of them. It's completely abnormal to be so insensitive and indifferent, and not even express any regrets other than the sadness of slowing down your own investigation. All this characterizes Hassel and his people as unthinkable characters, which prevents the implementation of the main idea to study the reaction of people to the truth. But if the characters are so cold, then why tie the storyline to them personally? Question unanswered.
The professional line of investigation of Hassel’s team by the spectacular police Fatima, given what has been said about the methods of the team above, looks more than appropriate and necessary. Finding the main character between the two fires should give peppers and the main investigation, and contribute to the disclosure of the character in extreme circumstances. The gradual disclosure of Fatima as an employee is not so invulnerable also looks good, and her periodic contacts with Hassel are very “delicious” confuse the viewer. But... all this wonderful line in some unknown way comes to a real dead end and turns into a grandiose “puff”. Of course, hints that nothing will come out of the story were also in the process, for example, a frankly ridiculous story with some unrestrained police officer in her relationship with a single car, but still I did not expect such a frank “leak” of the topic.
Hassel’s personal relationship with his family is an even grander empty line than the one described above. Despite the quite reliable chemistry between the actors, despite the rather piquant complexity with the daughter and the third person, the whole story is a path to nowhere. Even though the family seems to come to the fore in the final, all this remains secondary. Hassel can't understand anything, he's on some mental level unperturbed. The only really strong scene on the family theme is in the final series, and the hero really faces a serious and hopeless choice, and it is very characteristic that he chooses. It is impossible to blame the heroine for her reaction, since she is not he on the moral level of law. No friendship, nobility and blah blah blah can justify his actions. Hassel is not a knight in shining armor, but quite the opposite. As for the development of a “piquant” story, it turns not just “puff”, but some kind of stupidity. It seems that the authors wanted to finish the topic, and just didn’t know how to do it. We finished as we could.
Concluding the review of unsuccessful plot twists, I will say about the insanely important and “shocking” discovery in the detective line. What was our name chosen – “Conspiracy”! How gradually and at risk, the heroes unravel the mystery behind the mystery, how the series catches up with pathos and expectations of something large-scale and shocking. And no. No scale for you in the final. No grand collusion. So, a small trouble and a local problem from the world of the powerful, but not a conspiracy, not a challenge. Nothing. All the fuss about bullshit, actually. That kind of twist leaves us feeling like we've been cheated. Dissatisfaction. How come? .
"Conspiracy" was weak on all counts. Playing on the field of “skeletons in closets”, the series failed to show how much they can hurt people, which disadvantageously distinguishes it from using the same theme “Hostages”, for example. Bringing the main character to the center, the series could not make him a bright personality, only giving him the attributes of a certain style. Making all the topics personal, I could not show the reaction of the main character to them. Let the storylines literally fall apart. Amazing failure.
