Bazuka and peach, or Shakespeare and not dreamed. While everyone was asleep, Japan attacked William Shakespeare. It was audacious, treacherous and not painful at all.
“Should we not swing at William Shakespeare?” thought the Japanese and made a romantic comedy based on Romeo and Juliet. Oh, those samurai! They have already managed to swing their swords at Alexandre Dumas and his novel The Count of Monte Cristo, as a result of which the curious action at the beginning eventually became mired in melancholy filler series. However, one Japanese does not mean another Japanese, and anything can come out. And in the chosen genre there is nothing wrong – it is high time to do something similar, at least a little over many centuries, reducing the number of corpses.
In this translation of the well-known story, the action takes place, as the name implies, in a boarding school. There are two countries. They have a long-standing and irresistible animosity, but representatives of both parties with the talking names “Black Dogs” and “White Cats” study in the same educational institution, apparently to overcome all differences. But in fact, no one is interested in this, and therefore everyone is trying to arrange some kind of brawl. Yeah, like a cat and a dog. And so that interspecific conflict does not escalate into intercontinental, the order is monitored by specially appointed people - prefects.
Naturally, friendly, and even more so, love relationships are prohibited, considered betrayal and punishable by something there. Here in these conditions there was a beautiful feeling between the slightly dull but kind and faithful Romeo Inudzuka (I call him Bazuka) and the sweet, clean, blonde, blue-eyed, thick-blooded Juliet Persia (respectively, Peach). Now, overcoming all obstacles, at all costs, they need to preserve their love and try not to share the fate of the original books.
Having driven themselves into the framework of a romantic comedy, the creators immediately rejected a whole layer of possibilities. William Shakespeare obviously wrote a huge number of beautiful works, and if you have already touched the grave, then you dig out “old Willie” completely. Somehow it turned out to make a reference to Twelfth Night, or Anything, so why not go further and integrate other plots according to the chosen plan.
For example, the situation in the family of the main character could be the same as Hamlet. The Father’s Ghost sits on the table smoking a pipe while Romeo’s older brother, Ayro, goes about his business. “Burn your uncle. Avenge me! the Ghost demands. “But, Dad, there is no evidence that it was an uncle. You ate those mushrooms yourself — calmly, without turning away from anything, Ivo objects. “And who gave them to me?” exclaims the Ghost. Ivo sighs, "Listen, Dad, go to Romeo." He has nothing to do anyway. Let him do something in his life.
That's what's missing in the series. But on the other hand...
On the other hand, the creators initially do not pretend to do something like that, and in exchange they managed to offer a rather interesting story, after watching which you realize that twelve episodes are not enough. Yes, the actors of the second plan are almost not disclosed. Yes, the prefect from "White Cats," who appears in the screensaver, speaks two or three words with no influence. But they are all remembered, and the ending is very much in the spirit of Shakespeare. Do we need to continue? After all, in it, for sure, to fill the timekeeping with events, hostilities will inevitably unfold between the two countries, and there is not far from “There is no sadder story in the world...” Is it necessary?
And so, of course, this is not a great work, but with meaning and pleasant, just like the sincere feelings of the main characters.
