Here is the second part of the Merleson Ballet, or rather, a review of the sequel to the film Tokyo Gul. I hope it does more good than anything negative. Let's go!
The first film made a good impression on me: the acting, well-drawn kagune, and well-tailored narrative. The second part, suddenly, is no worse than the first - quite the opposite. Here is the arch Gurman, aka Shuu Tsukiyama. It’s my favorite character because it really goes through the arc of the character. Somehow. The hero does not pass it (at least in the anime), but Gurman does. But it all has to be later. In this film, we just get to know him: an annoyingly overgrown major who doesn't know the words "no" and "can't." Even if he wasn't a gully, he'd be just as troubled. He does what he wants, kills whom he wants - the most dangerous cannibal after Ritse's gluttons from the previous part.
On the other side we see Ken Kaneki , Touku , Yomu , who live their normal lives after a fight with investigators. Along the way, the plot is wedged Nishiki with his girlfriend, Uta and Itori. By the way, Uta and Itory are already presented as not very good characters, and this is rather strange, because in the anime (and I suspect that in the manga) there was no such thing. Here's a little downside that you can see right away. The second disadvantage is the unnatural biting of pieces of meat from the body. The first part didn't do that. Moreover, the action in the second part is better than in the first, because there is less graphics and more physics. But a fairly simple imitation of gnawed flesh to create lazy.
Now let's talk about the pros. It's an acting game that's very good here. Shota Matsuda (Shuu Tsukiyama) - here are five points at once; he understood his character and portrayed him exactly as he was presented in the original. Stylish, handsome, with lively facial expressions - he's good, especially in the final. The maximum hit in the image after Masataka in the image of Kaneki. Masataka himself is such a cinnamon bun. It was heartening when Kaneki sat with an innocent look while Tsuki orgasmed on his blood in the toilet. This scene from the anime is moved as closely as possible. We replaced the actress with the role of Touki, and it is difficult to say which of the two actresses played better: they both did well. Sunya Shiraishi in the role of Nishiki suffered heroism (or tragically suffered), but did it very well. All the characters on the third, on the fourth plane are quite good, if we talk about those moments when the main characters are in focus, but the life around them does not stop. At this point in this fictional world there are everyone - even extras.
Controversial moment - a scene in a gulley restaurant. I believe that we have certainly saved the budget, but also turned everything in a more logical direction. I doubt that the arena would have looked normal in the film, and it turned out interesting and with a dynamic ending. Kind of an explanation for how Kaneki got home after all. The approach is reasonable, I can only approve.
Judging by the audience’s estimates, the sequel received better, and in the rest of the world a little worse than the first part. I would like to shoot the third, at least for the logical conclusion, where you can leave an open final. The legendary '1000-7', after all, the appearance of the Aogiri Tree and the change in Kaneki's character are worth it.
