My brother's a superhero! Mio fratello rincorre i dinosauri (2019)
Many people, including myself, don’t remember many feature films about people with Down syndrome. Only the recent Peanut Falcon comes to mind. I can understand why these films are harder to make, which is why premieres like My Brother Superhero 39 are especially interesting.
The plot of the film no longer affects Joe with Down syndrome, but his brother Jack, who convinces himself that his brother has superpowers. Afterwards, the teenager will go through a storm of emotions to realize that his brother is truly special. The character grows for a little time: he makes mistakes, admits them, digs into himself. Although some events seem fictional, I still believe that this is a real person, and not a typical teenage character.
I focused on Jack because he illustrates the whole range of human relationships with people with Down syndrome. And through him, we see how pure and innocent Joe's love for his brother is, even though Jack doesn't always understand that. Both of them are at the top level.
The atmosphere of a small sunny city in Italy plays into the hands of such a kind film. Each frame of the picture is filled with warmth and comfort, which makes you want to fly to Italy for a spontaneous few weeks of vacation.
There's a lot that I didn't mention, like we don't really see what parents are up against, because the story is told from Jack's perspective. So the creators removed the extra drama, which in the context of the plot would look just out of place. But I still hope that you will evaluate it yourself, so I will move on to conclusions.
'My brother is a superhero!' - a very warm, soulful family film, similar to ' Miracle', which I have long recommended for viewing. Evaluate it with the whole family to recharge a good mood and show your children, and maybe yourself, that people with Down syndrome are not lepers and they do not need to be avoided.
