Love and power The story of the life and love of three sisters, the daughters of General Dougou. Each of them will go their way to the end, choosing love or power, duty or feelings. The story of men who loved sisters, protected them and fought for them.
Of the about two hundred historical dramas I revised, there are not so many – only a couple of dozen, not all of them were equally interesting for me (even sensational and popular), so it was more pleasant to find such a gem among the TV series.
For all 55 episodes, the plot sagged slightly only for 3-4 episodes in the last third of the series, but then the story again became bright and exciting. And this is not surprising, because life itself tells us the most interesting stories, and this series is really based on real events that took place during the reign of the Northern Zhou dynasty and which replaced it with the Sui dynasty. Therefore, to avoid spoilers, I strongly recommend not to read historical references, they can always be read after watching the series to find differences.
The main characters of the series are three - older sister Ban Jo, middle Man To and younger Jia Lo, and the men who loved them are more, so love triangles, dramas and broken hearts - all this in the series is present in full. But the story shown to me captured not so much love experiences as the brightness of the images shown. All the characters change over time or due to circumstances (maybe only the middle sister has not changed for the whole series), the motives of their actions are logical and justified, even if the characters do something under the power of emotions, these emotions are perfectly shown and you can understand why the character did this (there is an exception in several episodes, at least I thought so).
There are also shortcomings that affected the final assessment. Almost the whole series was terribly annoyed by the middle sister - the created image is clear, but it did not become less annoying, after all, I think the actress sometimes overplayed. And a trip to a neighboring country for a bride for the emperor, too, in my opinion, not very successful screenwriters. But in general, the series looks on one breath, the main thing is not to give up after the first series, when, as usual, many characters appear in Chinese dramas and try to understand who is what relative to whom.
Bottom line: a very good series, don't miss it.
