"Taiga. Without the end and the edge stretched it to all sides, silent, indifferent. ? I decided to watch the film spontaneously, I had never heard of it before, but by chance I saw it in my recommendations. I am skeptical about Russian-made films, but I was bribed by themes, as I am interested in aerospace technology, as well as the relatively short duration of the film (45 minutes).
Initially, I expected to see a film with a squeeze of various technical information about the work of the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the style of the popular science program Galileo, but I quickly realized that the film is a little different. The film tells about the lives of employees of the cosmodrome directly behind the workplace and beyond, and a little emphasis is placed on the ordinary life and inner world of the characters of the film. This kind of storytelling helps the viewer understand an interesting spiritual connection between ordinary people, with a very unusual workplace. As those very heroes of the film are 3 real people but completely different people. Major-General, head of the cosmodrome, serving lieutenant, machinist Uncle Vova. It allows the viewer to see work and life in this place from three very different points of view, which I really enjoyed. Between the scenes of the narrative of the main characters, there are historical and scientific inserts that explain to the viewer the essence of a particular event or technical solution.
The film inexplicably harmoniously combines the romantic atmosphere of the taiga and the work of the spaceport, and this combination somehow works. I don’t know if you’re watching a movie about a rocket launch or a National Geographic show.
From the very beginning, the film also caught the excellent quality of the picture with beautiful shots from the air. As I mentioned earlier, nature has a special focus in this film. I also liked the characters of the film, especially the head of the cosmodrome, who in simple understandable language told the very essence of life at the cosmodrome. One of the biggest advantages is not the length and simplicity of the film.
Of the minuses, I can note only minor shortcomings in the camera work, and I also wanted the film to have a little more technical details about the design of the cosmodrome, but I think that the film crew showed everything that was allowed to show.
