- I'm really happy today! “Big Brother is watching you” is a phrase that has made people smile and paranoia for decades. It’s no secret that the internet makes it so easy. That's how intelligence agencies work. But Fabien Dufil's film isn't about that. Not exactly that. 2023. 3 years after the global pandemic, the first diagnostic chip for full monitoring of the human body appeared. The Corporation that created it invites everyone to test the chip with the L.E.X.X program. Advertising paints a rosy perspective: "Replace your brain and get $20,000 for it!"
There is no escape from those who wish. Among the contenders is Sarah Douglas (Michel Girolami), who is experiencing temporary financial difficulties. She easily agrees to the implantation of the chip, and has already managed to spend future money in her mind. But the reality was somewhat different than expected. After activating the program and the first rainbow days filled with drawing up a clinical profile, Sarah suddenly discovers the extremely obstinate nature of the chip, which, in fact, turned out to be the most advanced model of artificial intelligence. The director will not explain why.
Nor will he explain how a chip implanted in the spine turns into retinal photocells. Sarah’s attempts to nullify the rebellion of L.E.X.X. leads to the realization of the fact that the AI at the physiological level controls the entire body, and at its will can turn off any organ. (It’s doubtful that a fingernail-sized chip could control the entire body, but that doesn’t happen in science fiction!) Given the fact that the director and screenwriter Fabienne Dufil is also an operator (by the way, quite a good one), the film is extremely budgetary, and this leaves its mark. Dufil has to literally twist to turn ordinary city streets into the necessary scenery. Characters are few, so the main character Sarah has to literally "drag" the film on herself, which she quite manages.
A rebellious L.E.X.X. plans to harass anyone who had anything to do with her programming. (What she doesn’t like, the IT people won’t tell us either.) In my opinion, this part seemed too long. In addition, the theme of the heroine’s mother is also slightly overloaded with emotions. There's plenty of drive in the movie. As well as the interesting moments revealing L.E.X.X.'s sense of humor: People are increasingly afraid of computers and artificial intelligence. They fear that we will surpass them. "Unfortunately for you, you do not belong to such machines!" - Unfortunately for you - you are under my control!
Gradually, the heroine begins to realize that it will not be possible to get rid of L.E.X.X. “painlessly”. It remains to obey and think, think, think about how to free your will from the guardianship of L.E.X.X. Freedom and will are to some extent synonymous, because in philosophy freedom is the possibility of a person manifesting his will. If your will has been chained, can you consider yourself free? Sarah Douglas, aka Mrs. Lexx, was able to answer this question in the only possible way. . .
