Naked in delusion The plot of the film revolves around the research of a group of scientists who, based on the hypothesis that light is essentially sound, focus their attention on the so-called sound of the Sun. Using sophisticated technology, they conduct a secret experiment in which the sound of the Sun is amplified by special devices and begins to be retransmitted through the illegal use of high-rise structures such as the TV towers in Berlin and Moscow or the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Sound is not recorded by human consciousness, but the increase of its presence in unpredictable ways affects the behavior of different people. A number of agents go in search of a repeater of this Sun Sound, as a wave of mass, but not too noticeable insanity takes over different groups of the population. The film will also be presented at the V Moscow International Film Festival of Experimental Film MIEFF.
The film involves many famous philosophers, artists, actors and other unusual people who masterfully coped with the execution of their roles. Despite this, it is obvious that the picture is completely raw, the narrative is deliberately drawn, it is very difficult for an unprepared person to watch it. It is quite clear that the authors had some concept, but it is so poorly seen that not very experienced viewer on this visual field absolutely nothing to do. It is difficult to understand this film: on the one hand, it is attractive-philosophical, on the other - stylized-philosophical. Yes, I can’t say that as a result of watching it, I don’t have a very specific feeling, a new perspective on some things and the possibilities of cinema in general. But as such, the cultural shock inherent in all great works (as the film undoubtedly claims) does not occur. And yet there is hope that for directors Pavel Pepperstein and Natasha Nord, this is still only their first film experiment, and not the author's handwriting. The detective English neonoir clearly failed here, the balance between the avant-garde directorial finds and vulgar stylization was not observed, so the distortion turned out in the latter. I ask you to understand me correctly, the pious view of the world is alien to me and I do not call the abundance of naked bodies and intraerotic meaning vulgar here. It is in this aspect that the authors worked very well and everything looks as artistic as possible. But it could not be otherwise, because the main creator of this film Pavel Pepperstein is an artist, graphic artist, theorist of modern art, author of objects, installations, performances. And it would be very strange if, showing naked nature on the screen, he would go into pornography. But the very presentation of the film material looks a little went, because it is a pre-noir and under-avant-garde.
But the locations chosen by the authors for the film, I found interesting, they were very difficult to guess. In the film there are Yalta, Simeiz, Moscow, St. Petersburg, sketchy present, apparently, Paris, Berlin. It is very difficult to find out where it was shot, because the film is decided in black and white. In any case, the film “The Sound of the Sun” is not intended for the mass audience.
