Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. . . I go to the movies every week, usually the last sessions and horror movies. For the first time in a long time, the film was impressed with both acting work and a rather strong script. I'm surprised the movie has such a low rating.
Movie ' Psychic. The Sophie' case, based on true events, was released last week. The directors were the Wang brothers (unfortunately, I had never heard of them before, and it seems to be one of their first serious works). However, it turned out by no means a passing horror movie with a rather strong dramatic line and really frightening screamers. And the filmmakers harmoniously combine in one film several genres at once.
But psychology and a detailed description of the dramatic vicissitudes of the two families are techniques that come to the fore. Therefore, long dialogues about longing, hatred, misunderstanding in the family and death, and the duration of more than 2 hours. However, these dialogues are not empty, not meaningless, they, if you listen, have some depth, they are necessary to reveal the characters. The scene with the spilling wine seemed to me quite aesthetic, it exactly corresponds to the predetermined pathos.
The exact drawing of the role is created by Michelle Krusik ('Hollywood'), the lead actor. Claire works in custody, an important point - she has psychic skills, which she uses to help little Sophie and her parents get rid of danger. Her eyes are full of sadness and longing, and as a spectator I believed every word I said. A significant part of the film is devoted to the tragic vicissitudes of Claire’s life, her relationship with her husband Peter, played by Ken Kirby. Next to Michelle Krusik, the actor, unfortunately, looks less winning. The final scene lacked drama in the drawing of the role.
Ellen Rowe masterfully creates the image of Sophie’s mother, this character is also important in the concept of the film, and the scenes with her participation in the second half of the tape seemed rather intimidating. As Sophie - Madeline Grace, known for the film ' Don't Breathe 2'. In the film, the bet is made, of course, not on her, so the actress has nothing to play.
Thus, 'Psychic. The case of Sophie' is quite a good drama with elements of horror (compared to other films of this genre). Yes, it should be noted that the film is not quite scary, but there are several scenes worthy of a given genre. I won't reconsider. But there were some good impressions.
