I think few would argue with the fact that the Marvel film division has clearly contributed to the formation of the face of modern mainstream cinema. Not only setting the fashion for the creation of various adaptations of comics and large-scale “cinematic universes” lasting several dozen paintings. Including setting an example for creating one box office hit after another. However, after such a rapid rise, an equally rapid fall followed, which began after “Avengers: Endgame” and found its apotheosis in this film directed by Nia DaCosta.
Carol Danvers finds her identity taken away by Kree tyrants and takes revenge on the Supreme Mind. This leads Carol to shoulder the burden of a destabilized universe. As she passes through a wormhole that will lead her to a Kree revolutionary, her powers intertwine with those of Kamala Khan, known as Miss Marvel, as well as her niece Monica Rambo. The girls will have to learn to work as a team to save the universe.
The main drawback of the first tape was that having a completely new character in reserve with its unique specifics, the authors of the picture did not even try to show its individuality. In this regard, the script of the first tape was a typical generic collected from clichés and stamps of various superhero films. It is a pity, but the authors of the film did not work on the mistakes and repeated the same flaw in this tape. With only one but – after a relatively good debut of Miss Marvel and Captain Rambo in the mini-series of the studio, they suffered the same fate as Carol Danvers in this film.
Throughout the screen time, the authors of the picture are trying to create a full-fledged team of three heroines. On paper, this is so, but in fact, the team of all three heroines alas not felt. Not to mention the fact that trying to create on the screen images of strong and independent (as it is now fashionable) heroines, the authors of the film also turned them into collective and walking clichés about feminism. This also reduced their individuality to an extremely nominal level. Especially insulting in this regard for Carol Danvers, which at the stage of production of the first film Kevin Feige promoted as the most powerful superhero of the cinematic universe and a hero capable of moving entire planets. However, to reveal this potential and the properties of its character, the authors of the picture could not.
An important problem of the picture can be called its impersonality in the framework of directing, which for many years complain as critics and journalists, and directors involved in the creation of films. The sequel “Captain Marvel” was no exception, in which the author’s handwriting of director Nia DaCosta is simply not felt. But the whole film feels like an ordinary generic about superheroes with the same approach to the atmosphere, narrative and even spectacle. Special attention should be paid to visual effects, which, as has become the norm in recent years, look very raw and cartoonish.
The only ray of light of the picture can be called Brie Larson, Teyona Parris and Iman Vellani, who really try on the screen. Yeah, it's overplayed. Yeah, they don't play around. Yes, they wear very cosplayer suits of Sidab level. However, it is their charisma and effort that pulls the entire film. Samuel L. Jackson played well, but his character is very poorly written in the script. The same can be said about Zavi Ashton, who turned out another cardboard and simply merged villain.

Captain Marvel 2 is one of the biggest failures of the year and another painful blow to the reputation of the once unstoppably successful Marvel studio, which reduces all the chances of realizing the promised greatness of Captain Marvel in the future of the movie universe to nothing. Similar to the first film, the picture is devoid of any individuality and creates the impression of an ordinary generic, molded according to the samples, cliches and cliches of all previous superhero films. The film is far from bad. It is simply no and this level of sterility allows you to watch the film as much as possible “just for a tick”.
Considering I liked the first Captain Marvel, I was waiting for the second one. I even watched Miss Marvel to get a glimpse of Carol Danvers’ new companion. The sequel did not disappoint me.
The second "Captain" is a very bright, funny and dynamic movie, which does not pretend to anything serious. Simple as a stick blockbuster, which at the same time has its own style and can cause interest.
Perhaps the first thing to praise is the concept itself. Three heroines who, while simultaneously using their abilities, change places in the physical world. In fact, it looks unrealistically cool and driven. Three different fighting scenes, between which the main characters jump against their will - it's just incredibly cool and at the same time funny spectacle. In general, the action in the film I can praise. It is original, interesting, you can see that the production was thought out.
Next is humor. Heck, this is one of the funniest (in a good way) Marvel movies, with humor always appropriate. To be honest, not every modern comedy succeeds in such good jokes as here. Definitely plus.
Captain Marvel 2 boasts a variety of locations and original scenes. The film is as saturated as possible, simply not letting you get bored and constantly throwing the viewer in different situations and even on different planets. What is only an episode with an alien people who communicate exclusively with songs, or an evacuation scene with the help of a beloved cat and his brood?
The only thing wrong with the movie is the villain, or rather the villain. Very boring, very formulaic, it is needed for the narrative just as the engine of the story, no more.
Overall, Captain Marvel 2 was a big hit. This is a light and bright movie that does not deserve a hat.
'A fiasco born of success.'
After the Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel suddenly "flew the lid" and they cluttered with an excess of humor the film, which features the "daughter of the punisher" - a strict blonde who does not like pink panties. There's too much humor, not even an American adult. Captain Marvel is a beautiful, wise, strict girl, inspiring and instilling respect, reverence, seriousness and a slight rigor for detail. Like any girl from the league of superheroines, she has a sense of humor, because optimism and confidence are born from positive emotions, thoughts and, of course, a joke (even a mental one that is not spoken to anyone). This heroine is an example of concentration and responsibility, both on the battlefield and in preparation for the battlefield, Mr. Bean and Stephanie from the children's television program Lazyaevo should not turn near her. Nick Fury, if before and joked, he did it to the place and strictly dosed, and completely full of children in the universe was not, but it seems that after Spider-Man, the “evolution” of children’s cinema went further.
Disappointment is something that's bound to follow admiration - it's not just about this movie.
Some kind of slob with a hefty budget of 275 lams. The movie failed at the box office. And here is a vivid example of how a story can completely bury everything. You don’t even pay attention to special effects. Probably good ones. Game. It's nothing special. Well, by the way, the Arab girl looks good. But the characters are not remembered in this mess. The main super-villain, also some kind of slurred and, as it turned out, not even quite bad. She has her reasons. The main topic is clear and simple. But it all came out as cosmic acid. And also this very kringe scene with songs. Like a musical. Horrible.
Here's the story. There's a villain looking for a super bracelet and sucking the air and atmosphere out of the planets. A super bracelet from an Arab super girl. There are also Miss Marvel and Captain Marvel. All the Olives connect because of a universal cataclysm, because if they use their powers, they teleport into each other’s place. Nick Fury is helping them a bit. That's it. Good girls fight bad girls.
One of the worst modern superhero movies I've seen.
After watching this tape, I think I have every reason to say that Marvel and Disney have gone completely crazy in pursuit of these notorious Western values. True, in this case, not everyone. However, I might not have noticed any other “signs of a free society,” as the message here is, of course, women. Free, strong, wise, etc. And, anticipating the negative words about misogyny, I emphasize that I do not mind when women are shown to be strong, independent. But only when it is done sincerely, and not in favor of established social trends.
Moreover, I would close my eyes to “propaganda” if this tape had any acceptable script and characters. Well, there's really nothing at all! This is some awkward clip in which something was stuffed for colors, something for the applause of society, something for the future of merch. But in order for the film to be a film, absolutely nothing was done.
This is a perfect empty space that will leave no memories behind. Here the plot is absolutely written on the knee, there are completely empty characters to which you do not experience anything, there is no tension or at least a drop of interest in what is happening. This is a long series of passing Marvel series, which, like, expands the universe, but it is soon forgotten. It's completely stupid and inappropriate humor, stuffed in wherever it's right and wrong. In the end, they even crammed a minute of a musical in the spirit of a Disney princess and prince! By the way, after this scene, I had a real desire to stop watching this tape. The second time, after a long scene with cats - who watched, will understand!
This is a terrible, ridiculous, completely uninteresting and, most importantly, ridiculous film! It is precisely because of such attempts to please “someone out there”, it is simply impossible to treat the concept of “strong and independent” except with humor.
As a Marvel fan, it’s not easy for me, like many others, to see the decline and decay of the famous comic book franchise over the past few years. It’s sad, I’ve been following the MCU since the first Iron Man movie in 2008, and it’s frustrating to see a colossal movie franchise kill itself with each new project. There has long been a strong feeling that events and production like the Infinity Saga will not be repeated, that the creators will no longer be able to make an interesting film. Moreover, the events are rewritten, or fit into the general canon in hindsight, the main plot does not move, the characters carry delusions and do some kind of blush on the screen. New heroes are not just shadows of old ones; they are boring, spineless, undiscovered and simply uninteresting. I get the feeling that all the legendary comic book arcs on which to make new stories are deliberately ignored by the creators, they rivet micro plots and are afraid to make a story outside the framework of one film. It's just a cry of the soul! It is not entirely clear when exactly everything went to one place, but it seems that it happened during the covid, because after it filmmakers apparently overcame creative dementia (Oh, this coronavirus). The quality of the paintings plummeted. It’s not like all the movies were Oscar-winning, but it was better. Moreover, recently there has been a funny correlation - the more the budget is allocated, the worse the picture turns out. The budget of this film is included in the top 5 most high-budget films of Marvel, and in the end ... It turned out what happened.
About the plot of the film - it turned out another weak, missing from the sky stars in the cinematic universe, the story. This time Brie Larson (captain stone face) and newly acquired girlfriends (Teyona Parris and Iman Vellani as Monica Rambo and Miss Marvel, respectively) are trying to protect the world from the character of Zavi Ashton who played the leader of the Kree – Dar-Benn. It turns out that after the events of the first part of “Captain Marvel” Brie Larson destroyed the Supreme Mind led the homeland of Kree to a civil war, and Dar-Benn, in turn, is looking for a way to restore peace on his home planet, destroying other worlds (naturally, but how else!). Well, our girls are trying to stop her. Nick Fury and the cat Flerken (One of the few interesting characters in the film) help them with this. Singing Planet, Fury Orbital Station and special effects, but their effect is far from even the first iron man. The cat (I repeat); the cat is still not bad. But the film itself is simply not interesting, it seems that this is an hour and a half filler for Xmen, otherwise I do not even know how to characterize it. You can easily miss, you will not lose anything. Already there is a desire to save this movie saga she needs a rebuke of the universe, like DS. We will see what happens next, time will tell, but the mood is rather pessimistic.

This is the sequel to Captain Marvel, although I would say that this film is not only a sequel to Carol Dnvirs, known as Captain Marvel, but also a continuation of the story of Captain Ranbow, which began in the series “VandaVision”, as well as the story of Camalla Hannah, which began in the series “Miss Marvel”. Therefore, the title “Marvel” is more suitable for this film than “Captain Marvel 2”.
Here we get answers to all the questions that may have arisen before, what happened to Monica? Has she found strength? And as it turned out, yes, she's now able to absorb light, Carol is able to harness the power of light and distort it, and Camalla turns out to be able to make light tangible, and that's what brought them together.
To be honest, the film didn’t really impress me, the story itself was created out of nothing, it didn’t make sense, like in the first film, but at least there was an easy connection with the stones of infinity and the universe. But here everything was empty and not interesting, the only thing that saved it was humor and lightness. Maybe I have that attitude because I don’t think Captain Marvel is such an interesting character.
The film was also not popular with fans and was a box office failure, I think that Marvel Studios should tell new stories about new characters and send old characters to rest, especially when they have nothing to tell.
“Captain Marvel 2” goes beyond a typical superhero movie to a thrilling adventure riddled with themes of female empowerment and the unyielding power of unity. Brie Larson shines as Carol Danvers, embodying the fierce determination and unwavering spirit that made her a beloved icon. She's not alone this time. Together with the charming Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and Teyona Parris as Monica Rambo, Larson forms a powerful trio whose camaraderie is bursting with energy and genuine warmth.
Director Nia DaCosta masterfully organizes dazzling action sequences and soulful moments, allowing each woman to showcase her unique strengths and vulnerabilities. From Carol's determined leadership to Kamala's infectious enthusiasm and Monica's unwavering determination, Captain Marvel 2 celebrates the multifaceted nature of female heroism. The film perfectly emphasizes that true strength lies not in individual power, but in the collective strength of women supporting and inspiring each other.
Larson's game is phenomenal. She gives Carol Danvers a depth and vulnerability that goes beyond typical superhero stoicism. We see her struggling with self-doubt, questioning her choices and eventually accepting her power with newfound wisdom and compassion. Her performance with Vellani and Parris is simply stunning, creating a sisterhood atmosphere that persists long after the credits.
Captain Marvel 2 isn’t just a superhero movie, it’s a testament to the power of representation and the importance of diverse voices in history. It’s a film that celebrates female strength, resilience and the transformative power of unity. With exciting action, compelling productions and a powerful message, Captain Marvel 2 is a must-see for anyone who believes women can change the world.
What will happen when the director shoots a sequel to a not the most popular film for the largest film studio? There will be Marvels. The whole movie can be demolished and left to Dr. Hank McCoy. Then it was enough to release a short film, not shoot a full meter. Self-repeat, lack of originality and multiverse. If Marvel were the first multiverse movie, that would be forgivable. Next, I’d do a Doctor Strange sequel for more warm-up and a third Spider-Man for dessert. Nostalgia, nostalgia and ... the anticipated Deadpool triquel, but we have the picture coming under the loss of the studio, after all the projects to show the development of Captain Marvel.
By the way, without the series “Miss Marvel” half of the film will be incomprehensible, so the studio has already built everything in such a way that you need to watch all the projects. I didn't catch the picture. It seems fast, 105 minutes of timekeeping is carried by the standard scheme – the villain Dar-Ben of the Cree race wants to take revenge on Carol, put together an ancient artifact that allows you to change matter and space (one part of the artifact is located at Kamala Hann) and provide your planet with life. Robin Hood, not an alien villain.
Actress Zavi Ashton embodied the main villain Dar-Ben. She seems tired of investigating crimes in London, where Sherlock-Cumberbatch is constantly taking over, so here we will take revenge. The picture also shows adult Monica Rambo, who, after Thanos snapped, turned into a hero without a name. But we know it's a photon. The tape cannot cling to the main idea, if you leave the confrontation between Kree and the heroes, so the director used an interesting formula of interaction, at the same time justifying the union of Marvels.
After a beautiful interaction with the black hole, the heroines change places when using their abilities. Kamala on Earth, a photon at the base of Nick Fury orbiting the Earth, Carol on the other side (fence), through space and time. Fights and tracking down Cree villains are not impressive, but casting forces and changing locations cause positive emotions. The change of abilities between the heroines was reminiscent of the Silver Surfer Invasion. Something for the second time the story about the Cree and the Skrulls refers to the Fantastic Four (in “The Secret Invasion” was superscrull Emilia Clark).
Director Nia DaCosta added the impression of meeting with the idol. It's exciting and enjoyable. Kamala is thrilled with Carol and becomes part of the team shoulder to shoulder with Danvers. But after a few battles, we slide down the script. We were shown what the villain wants, what his plans are, and then... It's just a planet where everybody sings and dances. Are we in Bollywood? What was that stroke for? It doesn't make sense. Dancing, dressing up, finding shelter to eventually show the battle with the under-Ronan again (Dar-Ben wields an energy hammer, only casts Kamala’s hand instead of the Infinity Stone).
Nick Fury and the Fleurkin family. This is Carol's mascot adventure. The family of seals helps Nick Fury rescue the personnel of the space station in a very unusual way, which causes a very strange feeling from watching. The project, despite all its superhero style, cannot be taken seriously. This is not a mockery of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the spirit of “The Hulk Woman”, but this is not the picture that will be the link before the fifth “Avengers”.
The director tries to show the drama between Rambo and Carol, because the five-year events did not pass without a trace. And it seems to be working on the characters, and responsibility, until the childish level of Kamala bursts in. Everything is very crumpled, weak and... the first scene came to the credits, where Kamala Khan cosplays Nick Fury from the first Iron Man. I'm glad Miss Marvel knows how comical this is. Well, the second scene after the credits. . .
What was worth watching the movie for? You could just turn on one scene and that's it. We were warned throughout the timeline that cracks were being created in the multiverse to show the different realities of superhero existence. The presence of Dr. Hank McCoy pleasantly surprises fans, asking the question in advance: why was the whole film necessary when the key events for the development were at the very end? The film was worse than the first film, and given the fact that on Earth only revealed a secret invasion, the audience has no desire to empathize with the Skrulls.
Bottom to push back on or how disappointed I got with my favorite franchise
I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe very much, and I am ready to forgive its many shortcomings for just one more opportunity to plunge into the dear world and meet the beloved heroes. However, this film is so weak in all respects that even I cannot close my eyes to it. A simple plot, on the verge of primitiveness, twitchy editing, a faceless villain with a potentially strong, but completely undisclosed motivation, special effects at the level of cheap series of the last century and these are only the biggest shortcomings. While watching, I had a clear feeling that this project was created in a hurry, and the film crew had two goals: to fill the release schedule and earn money from loyal fans, the creative component was not the most important here, and perhaps not at all.
Studio bosses, apparently, decided that in the modern world it is enough to put three “strong women” in the center of the plot, add a little pathos about saving worlds, let tragedy with a couple of phrases about atonement for sins, decorate all this with the logo of a popular franchise, and this creation is automatically doomed to audience love and box office records. I'm very glad they were wrong. Weak fees and a cool reception from critics prove that the public still wants to see fascinating and visually vivid stories on the screens, and not a mediocre passer-by filled with cheap graphics, obsessive feminism and banal plot moves.
From the first half of my review, we can conclude that Captain Marvel 2 is a complete failure, but this is not entirely true. The film has positive aspects: the charm of Iman Vellani, the charisma of Samuel L. Jackson or the chic scene of collective memories, but the trouble is that small virtues are in the shadow of big flaws. Below I will give two of the most striking examples that clearly demonstrate the weakness and imbalance of the scenario.
Example #1 – I liked how Kamala’s relationship with her family is shown and revealed, and I believe that these people genuinely love and care for each other. On the other side of the scales, the line of Monica and Carol, which, theoretically, should also develop the theme of family and the complexity of family relationships, but it is so superficially written and coldly played that the effect of immersion and empathy for the heroes can not be considered.
Example #2 is the main villain whose name disappeared from my memory before the final credits ended. On the one hand, she has an interesting and potentially tragic motivation to save her native world, which is on the verge of death. However, this storyline looks very clumsy. The scriptwriters did not bother to study the character or plot details, everything remained on a superficial level, as if the text were answered by students-practicians, completely deprived of life and professional experience, and Zavi Ashton did not have enough talent and charisma to show his character interesting and bright despite a weak script.
In the end, I want to say that this is unconditionally the weakest project in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the intriguing scene after the credits gives hope that “Captain Marvel 2” will be the bottom, starting from which, my favorite franchise will begin to return to its former glory.
P.S. A more or less decent assessment I put out of love for the franchise as a whole and in the hope of a bright future.
When a studio, whose name for years has been synonymous with “high-quality entertaining cinema”, suddenly suffers one failure after another, the question of not collecting arises acutely, a reputational blow requires close attention. In such cases, a real hit is needed, so that fans who are not completely disappointed in the franchise have a weighty argument about its relevance, and ordinary viewers have a desire to go to a new blockbuster. At such a crucial moment to release on the big screens an ordinary film shot according to the formula, which may have previously collected praise and the cherished billion, but is now perceived as another Marvel project, ready to get lost among dozens of the same – a decision, to put it mildly, controversial. Let's get into more detail:
Characters:
Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan / Miss Marvel and Monica Rambo:
In the first part, Carol Danvers was almost invincible and stubborn woman looking for herself, in the sequel, the creators wanted to deconstruct her image, which not everyone liked and show the consequences of the arrogance and haste of the main character. And then Kamala Khan appears - a young fan of Captain Marvel after gaining super powers in her own series, dreaming of following in the footsteps of her idol. And to be honest, here I saw an interesting idea. You have a character who has been taken coldly by the masses for lacking moral dilemmas and inner conflict, and you also have a heroine from the same universe that extols the troubled protagonist for promotion. You just need to introduce them to each other, then send them on a joint adventure, where Kamala gradually realizes how frustrating it can be to blindly follow an idol and here, in fact, the finished plot, but the ragged narrative and weak script do not allow the director to realize it properly. However, everything brightens up the same wonderful Kamala performed by the magnificent Iman Vellani and her interaction with Captain Marvel, whose emotional range from the events of the original has expanded significantly. Brie Larson is a talented actress and it is not her fault that in the past solo Carol Danvers did not have a sensible original, in the continuation with this everything is much better and even her imbalance here is played very competently (without context!). If Captain Marvel is a full-fledged central character, Miss Marvel is the perfect complement to him, sometimes overshadowing him with his boundless optimism and energy, then Monica Rambo feels completely superfluous. With the exception of the intro and a couple of action scenes, it can easily be replaced with a voiceover to distribute the exposure and not lose anything.
Dar-Benn:
Imagine for a second that this villain is only on paper - it describes her motivation, the reason for the feud with Carol, individual actions, character and everything else that will allow you to form a general opinion about what should turn out on the screen. In theory, Dar-Benn could become a worthy antagonist, if the implementation is not so curved, and the actress is more charismatic. Against the backdrop of a tragic backstory with convincing arguments in its favor, before us, nevertheless, an absolutely gray, inconspicuous and caricature empty space. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for the third time, a huge timekeeping is given to the Kree race and its individual representatives, as if there are no other civilizations or threats in the space segment of the series. How much longer will the Kree theme and their eternally evil and depressing leaders, whom I personally have stopped taking seriously since Ronan the Prosecutor of the first Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), until the authors understand how tired it is?
The visual part. The tape lasts only an hour and a half and does not have time to get bored. We rush through stunning locations and almost every one of them hides a mini-quest, necessary not so much for the plot, but to justify inventive muzzle. The idea of three characters changing in space served as a good help for their unity and further teamwork with an obvious attempt to weaken Captain Marvel, give a chance to shine Miss Marvel, whose abilities here, although different from their counterpart in the comics, look no worse, and tie Monica Rambo to this duet, which, again, just gets in the way.
Bottom line: Despite the fact that “Captain Marvel 2” has enough drive and places of entertainment, the picture, unfortunately, suffers from a careless production attitude and lack of a clear artistic vision, where Nia DaCosta, like many before her, tries to bring something original to the conveyor product – alas, without much success – and yet, this sequel is a pleasant unpretentious attraction, whose box office failure I consider not entirely fair, but quite natural!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Part 43. Power of three
To be honest, I didn’t even look forward to this movie. Especially after the not-so-successful films and series of the last two phases (with the exception of the third Guardians and the second season of Loki) and some disappointing news about the project. And still, the news about the unsuccessful start of the rental and average reviews I took somehow painful. But despite that, I decided to watch the Marvels. It wasn’t as good as I had hoped, but it wasn’t as bad as everyone had been pushing.
Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, continues her interstellar journeys and tries to remember her past, which the Crees have hidden from her. Meanwhile, the leader of Kree Dar-Benn, in an attempt to restore life on the planet Hala and revenge Carol for her role in the Kree Civil War, finds an ancient artifact-bracelet with which she can destroy interdimensional portals and seize the resources of the planets. While Carol tries to stop her, Monica Rambo investigates an anomaly caused by Dar Benn's actions. Touching the anomaly at the same time, Carol, Monica, as well as the young heroine Kamala Khan (who has the same bracelet as Dar-Benne) change abilities and location. The heroines must band together to cope with this unusual add-on to abilities and stop the devastating march of Dar Benn.
It is no secret that in the MCU came difficult times - now every new film does not meet unanimously positive reception of critics and warm from fans. In the case of the Marvels, this is already becoming a template. What's going wrong? We can assume that the viewer is tired of superhero movies - it may be fair that five films and ten TV series on this topic are released a year. And perhaps you want more development of the genre - more unpredictable plot twists, more incredible situations and more cool moments. If you look from this side, Marvels seem to be an ordinary, even template superhero movie, where you know how not only the events, but the characters themselves will develop - and this does not benefit the general impression.
And at the same time, in many moments, I liked Marvel more than the previous film - when the first impressions settled down, I realized that everything was not as chic as it seemed at first glance. And the sequel still look brighter, more attractive and more dynamic and alive (in the first part there was a certain inhibition and grayness). And the characters seem more relaxed and emotional - which was also lacking in the first part. Humor also sounds better, and the planets look more beautiful, even songs and dances are available - here the sequel clearly wins.
The characters are not all unambiguous - they clearly lack powerful charisma and enough charm to charm the audience. You can see they are trying as hard as they can. Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel (Bri Larson) - I liked it even more than in the first part. Largely because she became more human (I didn’t particularly like her sense of superiority and constant grin in the first film). Here, although she is in search of herself and her past, she will always rush into battle, soar to the sky and shoot photon charges. She will also have to relearn how to work as a team and trust new allies, and we will learn some funny details of her personal life. I really liked Monica Rambo (Theiona Parris), who received the ability to control the light, who again encounters Carol and who will have a lot to talk about. Less than in the series, I liked Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) - largely because she was made such a fanatic fanatic (after all, this behavior does not paint anyone, as well as attempts to parody cult movie moments - it was somehow kringe), although she fights well and acts much more perceptive than it may seem at first glance. Although I was delighted with the appearance of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), I found his role painfully small and insignificant. The villain Dar-Benn (Zavi Ashton), seems to look good and her goals, although radical, seem justified and in some respects noble, but she looks too typical ... Well, a beautiful cameo of space cats-flerken led by Goose - this is the sweetest moment of the whole film!
Marvels or Captain Marvel 2 - not to say that this is the worst project of the MCU, but clearly is at the bottom of the list of 43 (or something like that) projects of the MCU. Still better than I thought, but not as good as the first three films. I still sincerely hope that there will be changes and the projects of the MCU will still get better.
No water. I don’t know who the film was ultimately about. About Captain Marvel or the daughter of her colleague or another teenage story?
The beginning of the film is almost 100% made in the style of a human spider, who was lowered to the 6+ age group and begins with the story of a teenage girl. . . So wait, I was starting to watch Captain Marvel. But no, the beginning is definitely about this girl.
Next, we get acquainted with the daughter of a colleague of the captain and the half of the film we observe how the 40-year-old grandmother can not forgive her that Marvel did not wipe her snot instead of saving the universe worlds. It should be noted that if you do not watch any of the series, it is not clear where the hell she even appeared with some light forces. For the rest of the movie, we are offered a menu of superhero, as well as villainous suffering, meaningless musical, ridiculous superpowers and the same ridiculous actions of all three participants in the movie.
To say that the quality of the graphics at the level of Aquaman, that the characters themselves there are sucked out of a finger and it was quite possible to do with one captain, that half of the faces are not visible on a black background (and the cosmos is such, so half of the characters are visible only by the teeth) does not make sense. This is a fantastic failure in the likeness of a justice league, although even it seemed to me not so longing.
Well, in conclusion, looking at the dried Danvers, there was a feeling that she was completely not fed on the set. Perhaps that is why the whole role was divided into 3.
P.S.
We watched Iron Man, admiring both the naturalness of the world and the realism of the fantastic moments. Watched Tony being just a tough guy, not a troubled teenager. He was just a hero. Most importantly, it was interesting for people from 6 to 50 years.
With Captain Marvel, the only conclusion is that you should carefully choose what to watch in the movies for money.
I’ll tell you right away that I’m a big fan of comic book movies, so even Captain Marvel and Ant-Man 3, which are mercilessly criticized by the public, came to me. Up to this point, only the Eternals and Morbius seemed frankly doubtful to me, and then in time I intend to revise them as well.
But Marvel in its current phase is unstoppable: it flies and flies a rock down in quality, adequacy of what is happening on the screen and interest. And here he is: Captain Marvel 2 (or Marvels).
From Marvel’s point of view, everything is super: the trio is white/Pakistan (and a teenager)/Afro, what could go wrong? Yes, as it turned out.
The plot is a complete failure. There was almost no involvement and interest in what was happening on the screen.
The main villain, although interesting from the point of view of kinship with Ronan, but in fact it is cardboard to the point of impossibility and blinded by hatred without even a touch of reasonableness and logic of actions.
The main characters? It's a little better. Brie Larsson is almost emotionless and in fact one of the worst performers of superhero roles. Pakistani girl? A little better, but I don't really like this "childishness" with the adoration of Captain Marvel and so on. Spider-Man looked organic, the girl didn't. And why these self-repeats, is it really impossible to come up with another psychoprofile instead of further parasitization on the profile of the spider? Afro is a villain-level failure. It's cardboard and it just makes me angry.
Even traditionally good in his role Jackson this time somehow not impressed.
In the rest - there are no spectacular special effects, there is little action or it is sad (except for the fight in the beginning of the film except that).
A separate kick for a wild dance scene. Probably the writers thought it would be funny, original or at least entertaining in terms of surprise, but it was a very unpleasant surprise and even felt embarrassed that I was watching it at all. It's like the writers were sitting there making up the script, and then they smoked herbs, they got stuffed, they brainstormed wildly, they invented something wild, they let them go, they finished the script as usual, soberly. Then it was re-read, but for some reason decided to leave this particular scene for fun. Just what it was about in such a film is unclear.
Short sadness, longing, hug and cry.
There are two positive things that I will note in this film. The first is a funny scene with Goose and his offspring at the moment of the evacuation of people from the ship. I liked that one.
The second point doesn’t even apply to the movie, it’s the post-credits scene. The appearance of good old superheroes is a good thing, I hope they will help Marvel to correct in a new phase all the ugliness that they have done in recent years. It’s kind of a return to origins (at least I like to think so) and it’s great. It leaves hope that the films will go better.
To summarize: the film is a complete failure, scored a point or two for the 2 positive moments I described. In general, there is nothing to watch, it can only appeal to big fans of comic books, and then not everyone (judging by the assessment of my wife and my wife, who also loves superheroics).
4 out of 10
Nia DaCosta’s superhero film was far better than I expected. If we abstract from feminism and representativeness in the MCU, then at the end we get a quite fascinating one-and-a-half-hour movie as part of a long-running series about superheroes. Yes, this is not an independent work, and to view it should look at at least one more feature-length picture and two TV shows, but we have what we have.
The plot, like the characters themselves, is all in the spirit of genre and time: strong and independent women, a global problem and ways to solve it with action scenes that, although inferior to everything that was before, do not disappoint. Yes, the humor here is of the level of “Miss Marvel”, the crossover tries to resemble the “Avengers”, but it is not so large-scale and spectacular. The stakes are not high, the characters are second- and third-plan both before and now, but everything is rhythmic and fleeting within the framework of the script. Cinema does not lose you as a viewer, does not get bored and does not strangle you. The scene after the credits is much more important than the action itself, which happens very often in the “mouse studio”.
Acting jobs are default: Larson in his repertoire, Vellani puffs out for inclusivity, Parris is not memorable. Jackson only participates indirectly in the process, so there is nothing to say about him. Visually and audioly everything, as always at Disney, although the budget at the end of some bloated and does not correspond to the filling. Sound design and post-production could not be evaluated due to viewing in Russian dubbing.
“The Marvels” continues to prove to us, the audience, that the Studio Feige something went wrong, and for a long time. After a failed phase four, Marvel continues to produce at least “cool” but mostly filler films to plug holes in its release schedule. It is worth a look if you want to be aware of the superheroes of our days, but in isolation from the MCU it makes no sense. It's just a box on the movie that I've seen.
The Marvels (2023), also known as Captain Marvel 2, is a brilliant sequel to the superhero story, which confidently takes its place in the pantheon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This film not only expands the boundaries of the world we already know, but also introduces new, exciting elements that make it an unforgettable experience for viewers.
Director Nia DaCosta boldly takes over the management of this ambitious project and demonstrates his unique vision, combining dynamic battle scenes and deeply personal moments of the characters. The script, written by DaCosta in collaboration with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik, is a clever and complex story that holds the viewer’s attention throughout the film.
Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers and proves once again that she is perfect for the role. Her charisma and ability to convey complex emotions make her character even more compelling and versatile. Teyona Parris and Iman Vellani, starring Monica Rambo and Kamala Khan respectively, complement Larson perfectly, creating a powerful female ensemble that inspires and delights.
Cinematographer Sean Bobbitt and the art team including Cara Brower, Andrew Bennett and Alex Bowens create a visually stunning world that is both groundbreaking and true to the spirit of the original comics. The combat scenes and special effects look even more impressive than in the first part, which indicates significant progress in technology and skill of the creators.
The musical accompaniment from Laura Karpman is perfect for the atmosphere of the film, highlighting both the intense moments of the action and the quieter, more emotional scenes. The editing of Catherine Hedström and Ivan Schiff provides the smooth rhythm and dynamics that are necessary to maintain the interest of the viewer throughout the film.
Marvel successfully balances entertainment with serious topics such as self-identification and teamwork. This film is not only entertaining but also inspiring, reminding us of the importance of collaboration and mutual support.
The film’s production shows that audiences around the world have been eagerly awaiting the return of Captain Marvel and her new allies. Marvels is a cinematic triumph that deserves praise and a place among the best superhero films. With a score of 9 out of 10, just because I had the feeling that something was missing. This film is a must-see for all Marvel fans and those who appreciate thrilling adventures with strong and inspiring characters.
Greed, as we all know, makes our eyes run. It is she who will not completely take possession of immature minds, who are already beginning to understand that they are being led by the nose. But the Marvelites themselves are to blame for this, it is painfully obvious what year it is. Today, even the most fragile minds, who were fanatics of this attraction 8-10 years ago, say that the studio has a monopoly on stupidity. While the Marvelites who for a year beat their heads against the wall and can not accept their fate, nourishing the last hopes that a new dawn is not far off. Today, attempts to find another way to this dawn are doomed to failure. Moreover, Captain Marvel 2 set another bandwagon for fans of this entertainment.
She promised to end the deception and all this nonsense, but as time has shown, the price of her promises is penniless. There's chaos on the screen. Freaks teleport, everything crashes, inappropriate music plays. Indeed, everything is complicated, the garbage must be sorted, and for this they need a scoop and a broom. But instead of a cleaner, the Universe sends them another offended angry lady, who brings only destruction, pathetic speeches, which over the years have become obsolete. The captain and the cat could easily kill this clown, but she was presented with two even more boring freaks. If you’ve never thought about clear scenarios, it’s too late. One average for 10 failures. This has long been the norm.
This universe needs a serious guy with a magic sledgehammer, who, if he hit this junk, could destroy it once and for all. Maybe they need a guy with a guitar or a hedonist. Surely there will be those who want to own a collection of such bright t-shirts. And a hedonist could be given kittens. I think I'll go get some sweet popcorn. I'm going to watch Fred Astaire's "Silk Stockings" musical to get over this misunderstanding.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions – this popular expression is quite applicable to both the main character of “Captain Marvel 2”, and to the creators of this story, obviously, who decided that the box office potential of the next solo novel about an extraordinary girl is not so impressive, and therefore it is worth strengthening it somehow. It would be a logical solution as a rescue team to attract the honored and long loved by the viewer of the Avengers, but for a completely unknown reason, the additional heroes were chosen not by them, but by a little-known (even despite the recent series) Pakistani teenage girl and either a civil servant or an agent who is popular except in very narrow circles. Of course, they could not help anything, and finally buried all hopes for a successful outcome of this adventure is a very superficial and contradictory plot, only claiming some depth, but not deep.
It is impossible not to note that “Captain Marvel 2”, painfully long formulating why it was shot at all, for the same reason is a spectacle, not too exciting, even despite the numerous traditional for the genre of supernatural fights. Divination on the coffee grounds, why the antagonist to create some kind of heresy, takes an unforgivably long time, and when the truth finally surfaces, it turns out that the writers absolutely do not understand what to do with it. They too clearly do not take sides and do not express their own position: on the one hand, not too sympathetic to the opponent Carol Danvers Dar-Benn in her personal truth, but on the other - not feeling any condescension to Carol, guilty not so much of her long-standing decision as of her expressed attitude not in words but inaction towards its consequences. Moreover, the fact that Carol’s act is not a crime, as they say, but worse is a mistake, in light of the imperialist colors of that old history, leads to the highly controversial conclusion that such societies should not be touched. But is this true if the situation allowed to gain freedom, at least a couple of worlds that the characters visit in the picture, and perhaps its fallacy is not at all in the fact of the accomplishment, but only in the lack of completion, which led to the emergence of revanchism, the birth of which was Dar-Benn? Anyway, the film does not come to such a conclusion and does not push it, it is closer to the version of error, which looks very one-sided and short-sighted view of things.
In addition to the above, “Captain Marvel 2” hints at the motivation of personal revenge as a driving force for Dar Benn, which confirms both a very revealing scene in the finale of the picture and Carol’s mentioned strategy of antiheroines in relation to different planets. However, if this was conceived, it is manifestly weak, since there is no visible tension and interaction between women at any time. Moreover, the warrior’s priorities are clearly far from indulging in her own personal animosity, she is more of a mission in her mind than anyone else. However, this also does not seem to be completely true, since there is no direct evidence confirming the heroine’s reverent attitude to her homeland, except for certain slogans she pronounces. Agree, this is not enough to create a convincing image of the savior of the whole people. Thus, although the main positive and negative characters in the film are women, “Captain Marvel 2” is still emotionally flat and boring.
The fact that the original film is called “Marvels” in no way reflects its essence. The very idea of supplying the introverted heroine with the notorious cat as a companion of life with friends seems very doubtful, and in practice it is, because, despite the enthusiastic openness of Kamala Khan towards Carol, as well as the long-standing acquaintance with Monica Rambo, these three teams do not become full-fledged main characters of the mentioned couple. Despite the formal equality, the plot of the picture is tied to Carol, to her story, the antagonist does not like Captain Marvel, and not her companions, and the problem itself, which the picture is aimed at, can be solved only by her alone, without the participation of other girls, who at any time do not exert a decisive influence on the plot and are completely optional in it. Even some long-standing innuendo with Monica does not lead to an interesting relationship between her and her named aunt: so much so that a brief episode of Danvers and the very charismatic Prince Ian’s meeting looks brighter, more attractive, and more emotional than all the conversations and hugs with her niece combined. Do not help in the formation of the team and team spirit and all the features of the type of exchange of places, used here exclusively for entertainment purposes, but never with semantic purposes. In short, in Marvel, at least two Marvels are superfluous, which is completely unacceptable for such a picture.
The general feeling of the picture is something oppressive; it is about women, but not about traditionally strong and independent, who are able to turn the world around, which would be understandable, but about just lonely, who have no one to rely on, and who are not sorry for, so they are used to rely only on their own strength and do not value themselves. Of course, Kamala Khan is different in that sense from Carol and Monica, but she doesn't fit in particularly well with them, for the sake of fairness. And in the rest of the film is also about indifference to neighbors and their problems, some “cocoon” that creates a cosmic void. I don’t think it was intended to be that way, but it happened, but the intentional line with the Kree Empire is made too superficially, but in a way that seems more complex than it really is. At this level of disclosure, the subject of imperialism could not be particularly touched upon, if only because it does not play a significant role here. In general, the film is below average, very smooth, not very emotional, not very thoughtful, not offering interesting characters, except perhaps the mentioned Prince Ian, who, in turn, is unforgivably small, and unfortunately, their relationship with Carol could bring this lifeless film to life.
The Marvels movie turned out to be very cute with its multi-genre, it’s not really gum like The Eternals. It just so happened that I love to go to operas, I’m burning out in India and watching Marvel comic series for three years, so I wasn’t surprised not by jokes about Eastern families (Pakistan-India are similar here), nor by characters with a long backstory (and elements of Scott Pilgrimm from Miss Marvel), nor by the very unusual moments when the characters start singing and dancing. This is not enough in the fabric of the film, but it may take the experience of Verdi’s Italian in Algeria and a dozen Indian films (and Pathan, Bhola, Cobra are really beautiful!) to enjoy it.
Imho ended up doing something really extraordinary. I want to say in the spirit of the famous critic of Greengrass and a kind word about the "massacre on test" - a short timekeeping does not let you get bored. Well, the main feature of the film is an unusual interaction of the abilities of the characters. in general, the comic book is similar to Thor 4 or Aquaman. Rather, I recommend to fans of KVM - unusual fresh impressions. According to the picture - juicy bright, spectacular, there are several "wow" moments, such as sucking the ocean and, unexpectedly - fighting scenes.
By actors:
- Brie Larson is aging pleasantly, she began to look less bombastic and even a little kind.
- Kamala Khan is a cute puppy, between sincerity and kringe, she's not annoying, though she's not funny. She's real in her image.
- Monica Rambo - looks strange, objectively not the most pretty woman, but with her own history (albeit from the time of "Vanda Vision" it is difficult to remember). Because of the meme poster, the whole movie was watching what she had with her hands - well, really, it must be a bit short. Although the young lady with a bright ethnic figure at the same time that against the background of the “robot-animator” Brie Larson and the child Kamala Khan stands out favorably.
The cat is not too much, but the final "fight" scene with him is impressive.
There's no spoilers about the post-credits scene, but it's cool.
Review of Captain Marvel 2 (2023) To begin with, in March 2019, the first part of “Captain Marvel” was released in theaters, and in the same year I went and watched it in the theater with my mother, the godfather and his sons. I liked this movie then, although I still think it’s great. I began to expect the second part in 2021, and finally the film came out on the big screens. I went to see this movie in the theater and what can I say about it? "Captain Marvel 2" is a pleasant fabulous continuation of the first film from Marvel Studios. This is a great, interesting, easy movie to relax and relax. The film is nothing new to us, but watching it was not boring and quite interesting. The 105-minute timekeeping was easy, quick and unnoticed. The graphics and visuals were pretty good and much better than Quantomania. I liked the cast. Brie Larson played well and was very beautiful, as always. Iman Vellani as Kamala and Teyon Parris as Monica were still good. Samuel L. Jackson is usually good as Nick Fury. The other actors also did well. I liked the soundtrack, and I’d like to mention “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys and “RATATA” by Skrillex, Missy Elliott and Mr. Oizo. Ultimately, Captain Marvel 2 isn’t the best Marvel movie, but it’s not the worst. My two-year expectations for the film were fulfilled and I do not regret the time spent and spent 700 rubles watching this film in the cinema in 3D format. I give the film 8.5 – 9 out of 10 and recommend going to the cinema.
Marvels are another MCU dummy unfairly getting kicked for the sins of others
Well, let's start with this. Marvels is obviously not the worst movie in MCU history. He's not even the worst this year. Incompetent "Quantomania" with a terrible in every sense of the microcosm, not the most intelligible villain and an insignificantly linear plot about the victory of the good guys over the bad - the peak to which the cinematic universe can no longer rise. The Marvels are much better than the Captain Marvel solo. And also - better films about Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the second Strange.
What's good about it: a more lively Brie Larson, the teleportation chip itself, Kamala Khan's heroine (throw poop, but this is the most adequate new character in the last three years, who at least has a clearly spelled character), a win-win theme with cats (always works, but, of course, the cheapest thing to get to) and good, but secondary musical improvisations (clearly inspired by the Guardians).
What's wrong here: Captain Marvel is still an imba, which does not contradict anything, a flat antagonist, who took from nowhere, has already outlived all the laws of logic, the story of the confrontation between the Cree and the Skrulls, a very, very, very sprawling lore, in which even the superadepts of the MCU do not understand (to understand what the Marvels, you need to see in addition to the films, three series), terrible bundles and cameoes of heroes from other films (Valkyrie, what are you doing here? ran away from Waititi), you do not understand anything new characters, you do not feel any sympathy for them). And these endless clouds with incomprehensible as a working multiverse.
The Marvels failed at the box office all over the world. Even in Russia, their already illegal screens were ungodly taken away from them in favor of the new Hunger Games. The average viewer will be frightened by two girls unknown to him on the poster, and the third - who did something there in the Endgame - will hardly motivate. And this fiasco deservedly - the Marvels have a weak sentimental line, the dialogue is written on the knee, and the chemistry between the heroines does not arise. But to blame this film for all the troubles of the MCU - the verdict is extremely unfair.
As a separate film, if you remove fandom overload from it, Marvels looks like a good action movie. No claims to anything, except maybe a couple of typical gags. It's hard to imagine anyone being impressed by a trick of meowing kittens drawn on a lame-climb, but again - without ambition - it all looks fine. Tolerable
The problems begin when this story works in conjunction with the 32-film legacy. Marvels must develop the concept of multiverses, must fit into the general concept of fighting with Kang, well, somehow fall in love with devoted Marvel fans (and there are many of them even in Moscow halls) in new characters. At least make them different. All new characters are able to shoot from the hands with clots of energy. Wow, that's a find.
And then the story suddenly lost its entire fem message. He was less in the first film than he was credited with. Now, despite the three main female characters, cinema lives in a genderless space. Learn at least from Black Panther, a controversial film, but strictly the next line of the party, and your perception is already a matter of taste.
As a result, the Marvels are the same patient who is treated based on the average temperature of the hospital. And even if he is not even going to die, and his body is able to defeat a terrible disease, there is a feeling that soon the systems that support life will still turn off. Not fair? Still, like all the criticism of the film, which is reasonable to direct to a higher level.
After watching Captain Marvel 2, I was left with a negative impression of the film. The film was so unpleasant and not worth the time. The main reasons why I think the film was very bad:
1. Weak plot and unpredictable turn of events. The film did not provide anything new or interesting.
2. Not sufficiently developed and interesting characters. The characters lacked depth and emotional appeal, making them unattractive to viewers. Especially a girl, just horror, and some songs, God, that was.
3. Failed choreography and visual effects. Combat scenes and special effects did not cause delight and looked unfinished.
4. The unsuccessful use of the main characters. The combination of three main characters (Carol Danvers, Monica Rambo and Kamala Khan) did not lead to an interesting and exciting joint action, one snot for girls 10-12 years old.
5. Unsuccessful continuation of the first film. In the first film, at least there was intrigue, plot, seriousness of the actors. What we see here, Fury is a serious man, letting strangers on a secret plane. Marvel, where are you going?
Overall, ‘Captain Marvel 2’ is a failed film by the end of 2023 that failed to live up to expectations. A very weak plot, underdeveloped characters and the unsuccessful use of the main characters became the main causes of negativity. After 30 minutes of watching, many of us in the theater wanted to get out. What can we expect about the Marvel sequels that it will soon release? If that’s the case, we’ll soon see the legacy of DC in Marvel.
For where the studio went, for scandals, for the agenda, for the most dubious stars, for the merged 4th phase, I wanted to just put 1 point without looking. But you know, that wouldn't be fair. The film is not as terrible as Thor 3 and 4 as the Eternals or Quantomania. You can watch it. So 4 out of 10 would be an adequate estimate. - In Marvel movies, the characters often don’t match their comics. In cartoons and games, they are kept within the canon, trying to add seriousness, but in films they change their race, gender, age, take miscast actors. So instead of a skinny, fervent Miss Marvel with rubber hands, we have a fat, piggy Pakistani who throws glass pancakes. Bravo! - Turns out Cap destroyed the Cree supercomputer. This is not that it is not explained, but is served fluently, like a flashback, about which we should already be aware. This is a serious plot setting of the film, but it is let in a barrel, between the cats, in the middle of the film. Until then, I had no idea what their problems were. - And she just knocked out the local Avtuk and didn't explain anything to the people? It's not heroic. - Why did little Monica really need Carol? They knew each other in the first movie for a couple of days. She talks about it as if she had lost a relative. - Cap didn't go back to her so he wouldn't betray his shame to the Cree. You couldn't go back and just not tell me? - The villain is played by Tom Hiddleston's wife, a formerly petty serial actress nobody knew about. I mean, she went through the bladder. - She's not terrible and pulled what she could out of her role. But this is a copy of Ronan the Prosecutor (including visually), and General Zod. An offended leader of his people, who was missing something. - The three heroines couldn't save everyone! These, he says, we save, and these leave. Well, yes, in reality it could be. But the heroine, who can light the stars, has not figured out how to save one city. And call Valkyrie, who has a teleporter? She did it anyway when it was no longer necessary. How about charging Monica so she can close the first hole like the last one? - Do you have only one water planet in the entire Magelan cloud? It's a fucking galaxy. Oh, the thing is, this planet is personally important to Carol. How did the villain find out? - What was the reason for doing this as a planet of kringe with built-in operetta? I know. They stopped being rolled in China, including with films made specifically for China, because of their agenda. So now they decided to fill the Indian market. There's no song in there. - Heroes help monster cats eat people! Of course, this is temporary and not fatal, but people don’t know about it. The scene looks nasty. Other heroes did not help to hunt people. Most of them would have figured out how to safely land the entire station. - Carrying people in cats! Oh, baby, that hasn't happened before. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has not yet been shamed. - There are too many endings in the movie. And then it was over, and here, and here, and this, and this, and that. This is probably the first time I got tired of watching the endings. In general, the film can be described as a curtain. There are a lot of dialogues, jokes, a lot of movements, many events of varying degrees of awesomeness, but they do not add up well in history. Because the first half of the film happens not understand what is unclear with whom, and in the end it is decided not to understand how. Yeah, then you can tie it all in your head, but not as you watch it. The movie is hard to follow. In general, the situation... Marvel Studios has decided to kill themselves. After they disbanded all the key actors (i.e., killed the chickens laying the golden eggs), after they merged the entire 4th phase, after having barely survived the split with Sonya, the coronavirus crisis, death in the lineup, trials and scandals with actors, falling countonium levels, falling interest in the audience as a whole, a series of semi-failures, a strike in Hollywood – after all this, they released a film with a scandalous sub-star and two serial nouneim. A movie that no one expected or believed in. Released at the worst of times. And they gave it the name of the studio! In front of the whole world, the film becomes the biggest failure of the studio and shows results worse than even the squalid "The Flash" from the DC Cinematic Universe, which even the authors recognized as dead. Once upon a time, some fans hoped or feared DC would catch up to Marvel’s level, and so we lived to see Marvel hit bottom next door to DC.
“Captain Marvel 2” is already the 33rd film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it is worth noting that it is only for hardcore fans of KVM. The original film is called “The Marvels”, which reflects the ongoing crossover Captain Marvel performed by Brie Larson with Miss Marvel performed by Iman Vellani and Monica Rambo performed by Tyona Paris.
This project of the 5th phase of the MCU finally connects the film with some Marvel Studios series from Disney+, although it would seem that it should have happened earlier: the events of the series “VandaVision” could easily be associated with the second solo album of Doctor Strange, but there it scored, because the director of the second Strange did not watch “VandaVision”, Nia Dacosta, who directed this tape, approached this case with all responsibility, and she not only watched “VandaVision” with “Misss Marvel”, but also read various scripts. Learn, Sam Raimi!
In the story Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Monica Rambo and Kamala Khan/Miss Marvel begin to swap places with each other as they apply their abilities and are now forced to unite, along the way learning to control these movements.
Nia Dacosta stated that this film will be rather stupid, and the level of absurdity here is even higher than in Thor: Love and Thunder.
This film has some nice moments: for example, the way Carol reveals from a not perfect side for her fan, the use of Carol and Monica, very beautiful scenes on the musical planet. But all this overlaps with the absurdity of what is happening. And the question is, are absurd movies all that Marvel Studios can produce? Although there was a relatively recent season 2 of Loki, which tried to look like science fiction, but even that was too strange, I have a feeling that, whatever Marvel did not take on now, all this will look as strange and unnatural as possible, as if Marvel had already completely lost itself.
But let’s talk about the advantages that remain in this film:
Brie Larson plays a little better than in the first part, but if you want to fully imbue with her acting performance, it is better to watch films where she plays dramatic roles, such as Room (2015).
Iman Vellani plays a fan Carol so that you believe that the actress herself is really a fan of the character Brie Larson;
Awesome camera work. Especially want to note the scene in which the three main characters fight under the joint composition of the group Skrillex and rapper Missy Elliott “RATATA”;
The previously mentioned connectivity of projects;
Finally touched on the future of the movie universe at the end of the film.
Now let’s get to the bottom:
In the film there is one already spoilered last tv spot cameo Valkyrie performed by Tessa Thompson, who performs only cameo for cameo;
Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson does not play a particularly important role.
Excessive nonsense. For example: watching a movie, you think Nick Fury and his crew on the ship are in danger, because they have something unknown on board, and then just hatch kittens flerkins.
Strange post-credits scene that kind of leads to Deadpool 3
Dar-Benn performed by Zavi Ashton, the main villain of the film turned out to be absolutely no character.
6 out of 10
Better than the first one, but the second one doesn't get any stars from the sky.
"Captain Marvel 2" is a complete bad taste and nonsense. I understand that a writer can make up any game and sincerely believe in his genius, but I don’t understand how experienced producers could say that. How confident do you have to be to spend almost 300 million and hope that this nonsense will pay off, knowing that Marvel is now with its multiverses is not the best of times?
This is an obscure story about women and women, but according to statistics, women are not in a hurry to the cinemas. More than 60% of viewers are men. Judging by the box office, the film can rightfully be considered the most disastrous superhero story of Marvel. Meanwhile, the entire Internet gloats at the failure of the picture in the hope that Kevin Feige will finally think, descend from heaven to earth and begin to change something. Seeing the sad situation, the writer Stephen King hastened to intercede and blamed the failure of the picture hated women teenagers, and the black director of this creation – homophobes and racists. Game genius Hideo Kojima also did not stand aside and praised the picture. But no matter how many intercessors there are, the fact remains that the film is bad in many ways and primarily because of the script. Many different women and many different cats were stuffed into the picture, but the whole story could not be invented, where the plot is again banal revenge. If viewers have not watched the TV series Miss Marvel, Wanda/Vision and Hawkeye, they will not understand who and where the new heroines in the film came from. Absolutely undeveloped turned out and the antagonist, which, to a heap, terribly played actress Zavi Ashton, clearly do not understand who she portrays. Captain Marvel is capable of destroying an entire planet and resurrecting the sun, but cannot defeat a simple aunt with a sledgehammer. What Nick Fury is doing is not entirely clear, but he is there and even says something. And the curvature of young talent in the image of Miss Marvel is a separate song. And by the way, yes, in the movie, they dance and sing. Heroes fly to a planet where all the inhabitants instead of the usual dialogue arrange amusing songs and dances with bells, as in the worst Indian films. In the first part of Captain Marvel, many viewers were pleased with an alien cat named Goose, but in the sequel, the authors considered that such geese need more, and spawned dozens of such animals, thereby completely destroying the highlight of the first film. The action in the film looks unconvincing, and the fights look ridiculous at the level of the serial “Star Wars”. Of course, the graphics look expensive and rich, but this does not save the situation, because the viewer does not care about everything that happens in the film. In the post-credits scenes, we are hinted that the further narrative will be intertwined with the X-Men universe, and a new team of young avengers is planned especially for teenagers, where there will be Miss Marvel, a young archer from the series “Falcon’s Eye”, the daughter of Ant-Man and possibly other children of famous superheroes. So we have a brave squad of young Marvelites waiting for us.
Not to say that the original film about Carol Danvers was quite an interesting and diverse blockbuster, which will definitely leave a long memory, and yet “Captain Marvel” appeared at the box office between “Infinity War” and “Endgame” from the series “the Avengers”, which provided the blockbuster excellent fees. Critics also at the time traditionally rated each film by Kevin Feige's studio highly, and therefore, when they began work on the second part, the producers believed that they should continue the Danvers story in the established direction and were very wrong.
The plot of the film unfolds after Kamala Khan became known in her hometown as Miss Marvel, and Monica Rambo gained the ability to focus energy in her body after she faced the magic of the Scarlet Witch. At the same time, Carol Danvers continues to patrol the galaxy entrusted to her and tries to extinguish conflicts on various planets. But now she has a new enemy, namely Dar-Benn, the new supreme ruler of the Cree race, who seeks to gain tremendous power and regain the glory of the Empire of her people.
As a result of certain actions, Dar-Benn gains tremendous strength and at the same time activates the abilities of Kamala, Carol and Monica, as a result of which he constantly changes places with each other. That's very uncomfortable. In addition, it will be difficult even for Captain Marvel to stop the distraught Dar Benn from power alone. So the heroines have to unite in a team and show the remaining legions of Cree, who is better not to deal with them, or it will be more expensive.
In general, the plot of the second part of “Captain Marvel” does not differ in particular originality and the most interesting thing is that, unlike the triquel “Ant-Man”, the series “Loki” and other projects of the franchise, the new tape very weakly catches the global story from Marvel, which brings us to the confrontation with Kang. Of course, this is quite good because the film is at least partly trying to be independent and can attract an audience that does not know much about the Marvel canon, but on the other hand, without knowledge of many other studio projects, this film may seem some kind of confusion nonsense.
To understand the reasons for admiring Kamala Carol Danvers, you need to know the events of the rather passable series Miss Marvel. At the same time, the only worthwhile information about Monica Rambo relates to the series “Wanda/Vision”, where she was on the second role. If you have not watched these projects, then you will not be particularly interested in new heroines who do not open anything interesting in the film by Nia Docosta, but simply need to ensure that Carol Danvers has someone to joke with and with whom to let the captain's meager tears. Girls do not reveal themselves at all and do not cause any interest to their personalities.
As for the villain Dar-Benn, she has quite a bit of screen time and only on the verge of hysteria looks at the camera all the time, showing us how formidable and angry she is. It definitely joins the ranks of the inexpressive villains of the franchise, which will be forgotten faster than the final credits run on the screen.
“Captain Marvel 2” came out as a film that does not justify the hopes put into it. It may be an expensive blockbuster, but it is very poorly entertaining and can not be remembered for anything significant, because of what it looks just useless to anyone. This is evidenced by the box office.
The film was surprisingly good. Sometimes critics are frightened by terrible words.
I’ll explain my background, I’ve seen some reviews and reactions to the film. Marvel didn’t really follow the universe after Finale because the reviews were scary. But this time I decided to go and assess the scale of the problem.
It's not as bad as they say it is.
Plastic scenery was before, feminism is no longer frightening, and if you read the comics, you will not be surprised by the island of singing “aliens”. I was waiting for something tough, but I never waited.
Marvels: A trio of girls fighting for world peace. The concept of teamwork isn’t really seen as often on the big screen. Each member of the team depends on the actions of the other. Something like Buddy Movi, but the characters do not dislike each other. The team demonstrates the concept of healthy relationships, with support during difficult times and help from family (blood or acquired). Although the film seems to be a hotbed of feminism, multiculturalism and other terrible “European” words, it is based on the family. You are always dear to your family, no matter how bad it is.
By the way, from the fights I liked the first fight, when they do not yet know what is happening to them.
A patriotic girl who is ready to die for her people. I often see that Marvel villains are given simple but understandable motives. This film has a well-founded sense of injustice. It is easy to understand the villain, because the heroes are the same.
The story begins to sag as the relationship between Captain and Dr. Marvel unfolds. Otherwise, it's not that bad. Let's say it's a little above average in the room. I’d spend more time uncovering the villain or the crew, after all, the movie is called Marvels.
Healthy feminism: The film focuses heavily on women. But now I didn't see in him exactly the condemnation of men. The focus shifted to personal problems and injuries. It’s not all going well, but we’ll probably see more stories about women and their problems over time. Let’s just say that perhaps the progressive community realized that men are not the root of all problems and shifted the window of view into themselves.
Watch the film on your own, because the film is a vivid example of openness to other cultures and gender equality. Some people might not like it. But just because of the outer shell, it is also not necessary to consider the film as missing. Because it has its virtues.
Real, full and thoughtful filler of the year. This is what Captain Marvel 2 is like (no one would go to Marvel 2, yeah). Thank you at least for the fact that for an hour and a half, and not more than two hours, as is customary in the MCU. If anyone forgot, the first Captain Marvel grossed more than a billion dollars in the spring of 2019, not because the audience saw something frighteningly spectacular revelation, but because of the privileged status of the last film before the upcoming Endgame. Now it is remarkable only that before you the 33rd diamond in the MCU, and the fact that the screens of the halls are represented by a collective protagonist, because Brie Larson alone does not take out. Joke. Or not?
Honestly, without this premiere, the world would have lost nothing. Since the trio of Marvels want to introduce into the new Avengers, you can still understand, and so their Movie is really uninteresting, tasteless and passable. For example, a villain cannot be called a villain after learning of her motivation. Her desire to give her people a new home is justified, so she acts strictly. It's not from an easy life, after all, she stepped on the wrong path. All because of the universal favorite Carol Danvers, whose confession killed. Turns out she thought the Higher Intelligence on the planet Hala was dangerous, so she decided to destroy it. Why doesn't an aunt like to be called Annihilator? Sorry, it's my fault.
The project is full of so-called kringe, to be honest. What is a planet in the Magellanic Cloud (does anyone know what it is?) The creators decided to show their originality vividly, presenting the world with a point in the universe where residents communicate through... songs. They really sing to communicate. Oh, what a ruler they have! Beautiful Asian features. Oh, what a magnificent shot was on the screen, when in all its glory appeared Asian, African-American, Pakistani and white! Inclusive in all its glory, but look and applaud, ladies and gentlemen. Okay, it's not so critical and scary, it's scary because all this and everything else made so little sense in light of everything that's happening in the movie.
Girls power, yes, diluted the situation. It was funny to watch when all three beauties were constantly changing places at the beginning of the film, although it was not without another weak production of fighting scenes and stupid editing. Perhaps the sequel can be denoted by one single word that Danvers said: rolled. It was a reaction to the idea of Nick Fury, who offered to save the crew of their ship with the help of cats. And there are not just cats, as you understand, friends Goose, here. What the hell is going on?! That, Mabi, will be the reaction of many viewers. The MCU not only slips, it breathes on incense. And the filler because everything is interesting at the end and in the scene after the credits.
That's it! Or not?
Put everything on the fan and hope something sticks.
You know, this time I don’t even want to paint for a long time what to what and why. The movie "Marvels" is an attempt to completely move away from the first part, so despised by fans, while at the same time getting the same result. This is an extremely mediocre movie.
Wanting to get rid of the arrogant and super-strong heroine, the filmmakers create almost a new hero - a Disney princess who is friends with everyone, respects everyone and even does not refuse help. At the same time, like all the lines in this film, no one will give you a normal eyeliner. Did anyone not like the first Captain? Well, this time you'll be thrown around every ten minutes; thrown pointlessly and ruthlessly. In the first part, did the secondary heroes do well? Let's double that number! Provided that half of them do not need the film at all, and half, like the main character, do not develop normally and do not open. You didn't like the faded and uninteresting villain. Well, you get the same faded and uninteresting villain, only played 20 times worse.
As a result, Marvela is the most insignificant film in the current cinematic universe, which already says a lot. There’s nothing to praise or criticize. It flies unnoticed and goes nowhere. And if you value your time, you better watch something else. If you are a fan of the MCU, it is better to review Loki, and this film do not touch.
3 out of 10
I saw this picture. You could say it's pretty good. I don’t know why people complain, why everyone buried the film in absentia, a normal movie. All right, all right.
The main trio in the person of Kamala, Monica and Carol are good together. It’s interesting to watch their interaction, it’s fascinating. How they use their powers of teleportation, pranks, complement each other.
This is especially true when it comes to training.
The plot lies in the fact that once in the past, Carol seriously screwed up in trying to help, which doomed the Kree race to a bad existence. One of them saw that joint and vowed to save her planet and take revenge. She finds the same bracelet as Kamala and went.
Of course, the script is not exactly perfect and catchy, for example, at one point there was good ground for a conflict between Kamala and Carol, but for some reason this does not happen, everyone just forgets about it. To have such a conflict would be good for the picture, yes, it is worn out, but why not?
Technically, that's fine. There were strange moments, but they are few and mostly good. The action is not exactly perfect, but good. There are fun moments where really good, and there are frankly stupid.
Humor isn't bad. There are also wildly kringe moments, but they all relate exclusively to the Kamala family. I don’t know why they’re even in the movie. The funniest scene involves cats. It was creative and fun.
Brie Larson is finally playing! And he plays well. The truth is too often bulging eyes, this could be less.
Iman Vellani is a real diamond of the picture, just a charming cutie. She's playing amazing! Her character is an ordinary fan, an ordinary girl, just like in the comics. That is, she acts like any other fan in her place. She's cool. I’m going to watch Miss Marvel, I don’t know.
Teyona Parris as Monica Rambo... not bad, nothing super-amazing, but terrible was not.
In terms of locations, it’s not all bad either. The main business card film is a musical planet, where people communicate only through singing. It's fun, honestly. I liked this idea, it was done beautifully and well.
In general, the whole film can be described in one word: Good.
Not bad, not terrible, quite good. A good project, which stars from the sky are missing, but not so bad.
