Where the truth is, and where the lie is, you cannot understand. In broad daylight, a terrorist randomly takes a woman hostage in her apartment. Upon learning of this, her husband races home, where police and the media have already lined up under their windows. The operation to capture a fugitive criminal is led by an assistant commissioner and he is determined to handle everything himself, as he swears his boss. Such courage is commendable, but not very comforting details emerge. It turns out that in that apartment alone are not one, but potentially two dangerous people. And now it is unclear who will need help - the criminal or his victim.
After a not very successful thriller on the topic of economic machinations, Cookie Gulati decided to continue to explore the expanses of this genre, but without a financial prefix. The usual thriller succeeded him better, his rating increased and everything would be fine, but still somehow came out superficially. On the one hand, the plot is clear, nothing superfluous, on the other - it was probably necessary to dwell on some points in more detail. To call it a shoal, of course, can not. To delve into the wilds of lyrics, when the viewer wants to tickle nerves, is also not useful. Therefore, write off such a dry nozzle of episodes on each other due to Cookie’s desire to draw all the attention of the audience to the puzzle he created. Do not expect something outstanding and original in your genre, but you can count on a few plot surprises.
The company in the main caste picked up a motley, it is even difficult to determine who played the leading role. Except for Madhavan (husband), all the others do not have such an impressive acting experience, and the main character Khushali Kumar (wife) is a debutante in the world of cinema (but not in the world of showbiz). However, Madhavan showed little of his acting superiority here. I would even say he had nothing to play. Again, due to the compressed plot, no drama could be felt. Darshan Kumar (the assistant commissioner) was impenetrable and, being at peace with his hero, tuned for the result. The hero, in general, is no different from most police officers on the mission. To a greater extent, Aparshakti Khurana (terrorist) proved himself. His character turned out to be memorable, thanks to the unusual behavior characteristic of people with a mental disorder. The actor played with full dedication, did not play hard. He had the most difficult role because he had a lot in the script. Well, Khushali can also be attributed to the role of a key manipulator character. However, the inner world of all the actors remained a mystery.
The plot itself will not surprise anyone, but the interest here is based not even on what is happening, but on how events are presented from different points of view. The point is to see if the characters are lying or telling the truth. The final phantom was performed in the best traditions of Malayalam director Jitu Joseph. But atmospheric Cookie did not reach the desired level. So the movie was kind of disposable. Still, it was interesting to watch. The ending was able to half surprise, half confirm suspicions. In addition, surprise caused the choice of the final song in the credits. The soundtrack is good, we all know, but unexpectedly out of place.
I think the film has firmly taken its place in the niche of the middle peasants. Watching the trailer, for example, does not want to pass by. Well, maybe it's not good for a movie theater, but it's good for home viewing. Fans of Madhavan will likely see nothing new in this role. But for fans of Khushali Kumar came a new time, now their idol moved from the world of design and music videos directly to the big movie. Everyone else should approach the viewing without high expectations and then, most likely, you will be satisfied. Have a good time!
