The investigation was conducted for thirty years The Dark Forest is based on real events. In real life, there are rarely familiar to us in modern German detective series sinister dynamic stories, so be patient.
The plot begins with the mysterious disappearance of one Barbara Betge, in which her husband is suspected, and two double murders in the woods. There is a second suspect, cemetery gardener Jürgen Becker. Next, the detective part almost freezes on the spot, the drama of the relatives of the missing Barbara comes to the fore. She will be found in 30 years, and all this time the uncertainty of the fate of this woman has poisoned the lives of her mother, brother, husband and daughter.
The names of all the characters have been changed, but the plot closely describes the story of serial killer Kurt-Werner Wichmann. In the series for some reason pushed the entire investigative part to the background, which in my opinion greatly damaged the series. Many critical details are simply omitted, leading to strange inconsistencies and even comical effects. For example, in the dug up car in reality were found traces of blood in the back seat. In the "Dark Forest" about it not a word - well, a man buried a car in his yard, this is his personal matter, there are no grounds for the wanted list.
Perhaps, having sacrificed forensics, the writers managed to reveal the characters' characters? Alas, no. They sigh, they wake up at night, they say to each other, "He should have buried Barbara next to the house!" In the middle of the series, investigator Ian tells his colleague Anna, "I'm sure you'll crack him, you're a first-rate investigator." I found myself thinking, ‘We don’t know if she’s a top-notch investigator or not, she’s one of the central characters, and we don’t know much about Anna.’
