A conversation with a friend I admit that my review is subjective, but I don’t think anyone got into a session with this film by accident, because in our city almost all the halls were bought out completely. That shows a lot of interest from fans.
I am a dispatcher for 8 years, only 8 years. Considering that the band has been around for 39 years, just a moment!
I admit, this acquaintance changed my life a lot! I have met many talented and charming people. I am also grateful that their music brought me together with my best friend. Enough about me, let's move on to the movie.
Although in fact, this film consists of 6 stories of dispatchers from different parts of the world, who are united by their love for one unique musical group Depeche Mode. Wait for the history of the group and revelations from the soloists is not worth it, for this there is a canonical 101.
The director was Anton Corbijn, and then he worked for fame and his entire team. Stories are subtly woven into a concert taking place in a unique open-air amphitheatre, concluding the Global Spirit Tour 2017/18. I was lucky enough to attend 4 concerts of that tour in Russia and Poland. Even with a guy from Kiev, who was shown for 2 seconds, managed to meet. Desperate kid, I have to say. Take the queue for day before the concert to be in the front row, opposite Dave. It's a disease.
Watching the movie, I felt like I was talking to a fan like I was a close friend, and I understood him perfectly. Each of them found something in the work of DM - a melody that did not leave indifferent, helped in a difficult moment, supported and inspired. Their music is full of suffering and pain, love and passion. Listening, you remember that you are alive, you still feel something. Perhaps it’s the weight of the world, the pain of a broken heart, or the guilt of doing something you’re not proud of. But it leads you to the light!
Alas, Dave and Martin and Fletcher are not getting younger, which slightly affects the dynamics of the concert. Therefore, at the end, the vest remains on Dave, who, by the way, on Personal Jesus, suspiciously changed her color many times.
There can be no complaints about the concert itself. Dave still delivers stunning live vocals, as does Martin on his acoustic solos that didn't make it into the film. Live sound and presentation, coupled with a visual row, can not leave anyone indifferent. Cinematography in dynamics is what was lacking in the band's previous live video. You just have to enjoy it!
Personally, when watching, I stomped my foot all the time and beat off my knee. The tears came at the first notes of Cover Me and half the movie I couldn’t stop them.
I had enough of all the stories and performances from the concert, although probably someone will not have enough concert. They are always few, believe the experienced concert addict. But what is the beauty, you for this hour and a half was able to plunge into it again!
Walk in the woods with spirits, as the title of the film invites us.
