About how I spent the night in Graden Forest and noticed the light in the pavilion. This picture is a very free interpretation of the mediocre novel of the same name by Robert Lewis Stevenson. Unlike the original source, the production was completely unable to convey all the mystery and detachment of the area (the landscape of the author of the story came out on a larger scale), the spirit of rivalry and the complex relationship of the main character (the role in the narrative of which, by the way, was also shifted aside, taking time to get acquainted with the Italian “bandits”) with his friend / rival Norsmore. The worst part is that no one tried to reproduce the atmosphere of danger and tension. The viewer does not have a mysterious fear of strangers lurking in the night forest. The house itself ceased to be a fortress, becoming only a beautiful, but very flat and standard decoration. The same can be said about the actors. She's beautiful, but not distinctive. Aesthetic, but not alive. Just a very mediocre, craft Soviet school. There were neither unsociable social phobias, nor tired of life panicking scoopers, nor wonderful local residents. The role of Clara, we can say, succeeded, but from her, in general, nothing special was required.
Summing up, I would say that I was very surprised that someone took up the film adaptation of such an inconspicuous work of the classic. In my opinion, the author has much more interesting and relevant stories (psychological thriller Markheim, mystical drama Olalla, Cadaver could be refreshed), which on the screen would look much more voluminous and attractive.
