Henry: Porter of a serial cop Henry Adler dreams of making a successful acting career and for this purpose begins to star in the television series “Crime Wave”. But Henry is not only driven by ambition. A number of overlapping circumstances, namely: the murder of a policeman, which occurred before his eyes, then the robbery of the bank, which he becomes a witness and victim, leave a deep imprint on Henry's psyche, simultaneously awakening a hypertrophied sense of responsibility for the evil being done around.
Taking the opportunity to rehearse in the uniform of a policeman at home, Henry immediately merges with his new look and begins to go out into the city in the outfit of a cop. Realizing that this form gives him a special status, Henry becomes a street cleaner, ridding the city of all scum. However, Adler does not stand the test of the authorities.
So soon he invades the house of his partner in the series and, having been refused sexual harassment, immediately abuses his powers - spills all his aggression on a random street prostitute. Good intentions are finally devalued at the moment when it becomes obvious to Henry the absolute immorality of the working methods of real cops. Having parted with the illusion of correcting the world for the better by force, he decides to take the last desperate step.
Cinema Canada, which is in the shadow of the American, sometimes in spirit is much closer to European traditions. And although this precedent is rather an exception to the rule, since the analogy begs more than concrete, and with Hollywood. This refers to “Taxi Driver” (1976), which has become a landmark for several prominent paintings, even not trying to hide their connection with the masterpiece of Scorsese.
David Wellington does not mask it, as if inspired by the picture shot 17 years earlier, with the only difference that the main character of his film is not a taxi driver, but a bank employee. Taking as a basis the idea, which seemed already closed by Taxi Driver, a little-known Canadian director, who shoots mainly series, offers a rather curious refraction of it, showing the tragedy of a small man who is not able to change the world for the better, but also does not want to put up with its imperfections.
