Genres never die. If you don’t believe it, look at the oldest one. The world is on the verge of replacing man with machines, and people in cowboy hats on horses still pop up on screens. And this is if you take a Western, just like a setting.
Genres are transformed and adapted. In the worst case, they appear in the form of nostalgia.
Teenage crime thrillers are no exception. The same Scream is already filming the 7th part, even taking into account all the scandals.
The body is another adaptation.
Same location, same teenagers, same deadly meat grinder. I am sure that even the parallel with the fact that they play a game where you need to find the killer, and then in fact look for him – not new.
But a generation has changed. Not survivors and adults, but the conditional Gen Z tells its story here.
This is a film about their fears, their experiences, their relationships. Opening the intimate scene, with the proximity of 2 heroines immediately replaced by a trip in the car, where each looks only at his phone. Everything that does not concern murder, will be through talk about toxicity, gaslighting, tolerance, psychotherapy and podcasts. Although among the heroes there is one to whom it will seem stupid, but (according to the new laws of the genre, apparently) he will be killed first.
The ending is appropriate. Not a connoisseur of the genre, so I don’t know how original, but for a given set, the up fits perfectly.
But it's all for context.
The main question is whether it is interesting to watch. According to estimates, no.
And I generally agree with that. The next question is why.
You can buzz about a bad suspense, excesses with personal drama, a logical but not impressive ending, etc. But I look at the ratings of the same "Scream" and it seems that this is a genre in which after so many years it is difficult to really surprise. People want to be surprised like the first time. Hence the grades. Or I want to make the film a good face in a bad game.
Eneway, watch, either if you love the genre or if you want to watch the new generation come into the game.

What's the movie about?
Recently drugged, Sophie (Stenberg) brings her new girlfriend Bee (Bakalov) to a party at the secluded mansion of her longtime friend David (Davidson). Among the guests of the party are David’s girlfriend Emma, their obstinate friend Jordan, podcaster Alice and her latest prey at Tinder is an elderly veteran veterinarian Greg. The situation, to put it mildly, uncomfortable: friends quarrel and throw each other indictions, there also appears a corpse with a machete slit throat, and outside the window so inappropriately raging storm.
Opinion
It's an A24 movie, so there's no social satire to escape. The jokes are often based on the spread of media gossip and the ridicule that people’s real problems have turned into online cultural wars (and overblown ones too): gaslighting, triggering, seasonal depression and astrology as a religion are all criticized. Do you know the word gaslighting? “Congratulations, so you have a Twitter account!” says David slyly and seems to rebuke every viewer who also has one.
All the characters are annoying here. No one makes the right decisions, so it is interesting to watch the violent chain of events unleashed by these unpleasant people. But the main problem is the lack of a character with whom one could identify, it is difficult to imbue with the problems of the characters of the film.
Spending so much time in the company of such pathetic personalities would have seemed like torture if the film had not been so well done technically. The action is dynamic and well filmed, glowing sticks and phone flashlights create tension in the appropriate scenes, and the composer deftly mixes pop songs and club melodies, whipping up constant discomfort. It turned out to be an interesting one-off movie, with a funny final twist and a simple idea. To be abolished sucks, but to be killed is even worse.

Studio A24, specializing mainly in low-cost, author's projects, decided to become a stable supplier of original horror films, which necessarily carry a psychological basis, subtle visuals and, of course, not banal drama. You can treat these films as you like, but purely in fact, it is impossible not to recognize the presence in them of original stylistic techniques and often well-developed and acted out images. This is all, of course, great, but viewers always want variety, and they are covered not so easily - when the content is built only in a certain direction, the projects get, in fact, a certain audience, but for mass coverage you need some entertainment that will go well under popcorn. This is not an easy task. How to create something mainstream pop without changing yourself? For talented authors, this is not a problem. Relatively recently, A24 introduced the world to a youth slasher (it is worth noting, in the best traditions of the genre), which showed that such films do not necessarily have to be endlessly stupid, similar and unideal. The tape 'X', and stylistically, and plot, and atmospheric, and even dramatic was performed very competently. Yes, various roughnesses and primitive moves did not bypass the picture, but the product turned out to be generally very digestible. And this is only the first part of the conceived trilogy, the sequel of which recently literally won over critics and made fans look forward to the continuation.
'Bodies, Bodies, Bodies' is another bold attempt to play in the field of youth horror films, whose fashion, not least thanks to the A24, has reappeared on the film horizon and is likely to soon settle in the repertoire of all the leading Hollywood studios. Well, this is all great, because slashers, when they are shot spectacularly and fascinatingly, are a very attractive genre. But again, depending on how to approach them, because all sorts of constructions of concepts that you can imagine have already been used in a bunch of similar paintings since the 70s. What's the surprise? But don't worry, without an ace up your sleeve, A24 craftsmen don't take on the job. At the beginning, the tape appears before the viewer in such a typical key. Two friends, as it is now fashionable in the movies, lesbians, go to visit friends of one of them. They come to a luxurious mansion and immediately learn that very soon a strong hurricane will come to the area (well, where without it!). We are superficially acquainted with young guests, as if hiding, showing that each of them harbors either some secret, or an offense, or some claims to each other. In general, it immediately seems that everything in the Danish kingdom is not at all calm. In addition, almost everyone behaves suspiciously strange, so that we immediately begin to calculate the possible villain. Having had some fun under the muzon and drugs, in the evening the guys decide to play their favorite game called ' Bodies, Bodies', reminiscent of something familiar to us ' Mafia' with victims and murderer. It turns out that in the process of this fun, a real corpse is discovered.
From the very beginning and until the final climax, it seems that before us is an ordinary horror with hundreds of times already beaten plot moves. You sit and think, well, in principle, there are intrigues here, the conflict is gradually emerging, the characters are being revealed, but at the same time there is nothing we have not seen yet. House, young stoners, murders in the manner '10 Negroes ' In short, everything is like in the Soviet song - 'Vzhik, zhik, zhik, zhik - take the prepared one, zhik, zhik, zhik - who is new' But the most patient viewers, and I think there will be many, because the pictures with such a concept catch (well, it’s really interesting to find out who will be a psychopathic killer, at the same time checking your own intuition), waiting for an incredible surprise at the end! Presenting an average slasher by its external design, the A24 is well out of the circumstances, filling it with fresh solutions due to an unexpected ending that revises all previous events. All clichés and other platitudes immediately weathered under the onset in the final, I am not afraid of this definition - shock content, and the film is immediately perceived differently.
At first glance, the denouement is more primitive, but soon you clearly feel that you have been well held around your finger and at the same time experience tremendous pleasure from this, bordering on real euphoria. No, really, personally I was absolutely delighted and 30 minutes after the end of the film hysterically giggling. It was so original and spectacular that the picture from me received an additional point, rising from an average grade to a good one. Throughout the viewing, the viewer, as it happens when watching a slasher, will be wondering who the likely killer in this is not afraid of this word - a badass, going through all possible options, in the end to remember the beautiful Russian saying that everything brilliant - simple. Brilliant. A great decision, which, if I'm not mistaken, has not yet been executed in any horror film. But we still have to live to see the final. And then we have to plunge into all sorts of, often primitive conflicts of our heroes, often faced with acting overplays and all sorts of other psycho-emotional exaggerations. So I want to send everyone to consult with psychologists. But then you realize that all this was specially served in such a nervous-pun intended to complete the whole sura with the appropriate culmination. I was reminded of our Soviet film almanac ' It can’t be!' whose stories are saturated with so many extremes that you are no longer surprised by the ridiculously absurd conclusions of each plot. Or rather, you are surprised, but then you realize how clearly the result corresponds to the events. In any case, I do not compare these two completely different in importance and in structure - the film, but if you look at ' Bodies, bodies ' from a certain angle, you can feel a slightly similar aftertaste.
P.S. A24 again managed to excel, working on the already almost completely plowed genre field and finding in it, albeit a small, but still untouched piece of land. Almost to the very end, we have before us the usual youth horror of medium tailoring, the culmination of which, being simple as two pennies, literally stupores its on the one hand - ridiculously absurd, on the other - incredibly spectacular decision. You feel pleasantly deceived and for a long time after watching you analyze the events preceding the denouement, looking at them in a completely different way.

It is no secret that the genre of horror films is experiencing a certain rebirth. At a time when most pop-corn horror films exploit the cliches and cliches of the genre that have long been worn to holes, it is the author’s representatives of the genre that undermine the canons of the genre and present a fresh look at it. One of these films was “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies” directed by Halina Rein.
The plot of this tape develops around a group of friends who come together in a chic country mansion of one of them for a fun pastime and shelter from the impending storm. In the midst of a fun party, the friends decide to play the game “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies”: draw lots and the one who will have a cross piece of paper is appointed a “killer” who must “silently kill” the others. However, soon the owner of the house is dead and the game of the main characters becomes real.
This film definitely boasts a really interesting, unusual and full of unexpected plot twists. Which can definitely be called a rarity for the genre. At first glance, we have another youth slasher, in which the killer, hiding his true identity to the last frames, alternately kills his friends. However, this turns out to be a screen or even a deception, behind which the authors of this tape not only deconstruct the genre, but also represent “Euphoria” from the world of horror films.
The authors of this tape deliberately build the story on numerous clichés and cliches of the genre at the level of meta-irony in the spirit of “Scream” and “I’m going to look” (except without geek moments) and in subsequent frames turn the previously shown on the screen inside out. Hot to say that everything shown on the screen is not what it seems at first glance. Which in turn is the necessary ground for increasing the degree of paranoia, which literally tears off the masks from the faces of the main characters. Showing loyal friends and good guys real egoists, bullies, gaslighters and just unpleasant types who are just waiting to stab you in the back. Thus, in fact, baring the face of modern society and voicing sad conclusions about its moral and moral values.
Not to mention the talented director Halina Rein, which is really impressive for “yesterday’s debutante”. To shoot films at the junction of comedy and horror genres without excesses in one direction is very difficult. However, Raine definitely succeeded and the picture gives a very close to the above-mentioned "Scream" and "I'm going to look" impression. It is an extremely interesting and unusual symbiosis of the genres of black comedy and horror film with slasher elements, in which the full potential of each of the genres is used. Including willingly delighting clip visual and surprisingly measured narrative.
An important role in such a strong impression of viewing was played by the cast. This is the rare case when each of the actors perfectly got into his image, talentedly played his role on the screen and did not try to draw attention to his side. Especially good is Amanda Stenberg, who abstracted as much as possible from the usual image of the “good girl” and created a really convincing image of that still bitch and detached.

Bodies, bodies, bodies – this is definitely one of the best novelties of the year and a worthy deconstruction of the horror film genre at the level of “Scream” and “I’m going to look.” The authors of this tape deliberately built the plot on numerous clichés and cliches of the genre, turned them inside out and willingly flavored all this with elements of “Euphoria” from the world of youth slashers. Thus, creating the impression of an interesting and unusual symbiosis of comedy and horror film with deep meaning.
'Five Negroes judged,
One was tried and four were left.'
'Ten Negroes', Agatha Christie,
'Bodies, Bodies, Bodies' - a cool and fun party game, like the mafia. A leaf marked with a cross makes its owner a hunter. The hunter must quietly kill the players until they win. The player, having found the body, must shout out loud 'Body, Body, Body!' and then the lights will turn on, it will be possible to calculate the killer.
Seven people, alcohol, loud music, various prohibited substances, country house, night, hurricane. Camera, motor! The game has begun. Someone was killed and went to bed earlier, and someone died in real life. Suspicions, scandals, youth slang, female friendship and female logic. New victims. Prescription medications to calm down. Music again. Thunder rolls.
'Bodies, bodies, bodies' - structurally very successful thriller, keeping the viewer in suspense, has a nerve, threads of narrative. With the total duration of the film 94 minutes, an hour of them clearly goes on women's skirmishes among themselves, clarifying relationships, swearing and to the honor of the film, it looks organic and does not confuse the viewer. Actors in some serious acting were not noticed, and their characters are not so different from each other. Externally - yes, internally - theoretically possible, but in the film it is not revealed.
'Bodies, Bodies, Bodies' - in a very youthful film. Contemporary music, slang of characters, their behavior, lack of deep meaning. The pace of action in the film only accelerates, which does not allow the viewer to even think about what is happening on the screen. So our favorite game 'Choose a Killer' doesn't quite work here. More precisely, it does not work at all: you will have to assume blindly pointing your finger and then pick up arguments. Without setting goals, 'Bodies, Bodies, Bodies' covers most of the relevant youth topics, mentioning them superficially, but not developing arguments on these topics. PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Adolescent Complexes, Tick Currents and Horoscopes. . .
'Bodies, Bodies, Bodies' in addition to the thriller tagged ' comedy' but there is nothing funny about the film. Perhaps the older generation will amuse youth slang, but no more.
Who's watching? Children under 17 years old, but under the supervision of an adult. It is possible to view the company for a joint search for the killer.
Who wouldn't like it? Those who do not know much about youth slang. Those who expect to see the acting and the original characters.
Would you like to watch the movie? If you know the ending, you won’t need it.
For once, with friends.
'I'm too old for this shit' (c) Danny Glover's character from the Lethal Weapon series.
I could call this movie not bad. I could, if I was an American teenage girl, a Man with many problems: who to love (boys or girls), who to sleep with today, what to write in a general chat, would my subscribers like this video where I go to music with my friends so fun... But I'm not a teenage girl from America, so I didn't like the movie.
I didn’t like it in the first place because I wasn’t touched by any of the “problems” of any character shown on screen. Satire? If so, well, I'm not against satire. But a good satire should hurt. I need her to touch you in some way. It’s hard to empathize with green men that you’ve never seen before, it’s hard to get ... the pleasure of exposing problems that have never been a problem for you (or maybe were in part, but for quite a while).
Apart from that, “the satire is far off target,” I can add that the film is boring. More precisely, it will probably seem boring to those who, like me, initially did not get hooked in the characters. The actions of these characters during the film, they are ... stupid. But they are not so stupid as to be laughed at (as in Scary Movie), and not so stupid as to be afraid of something (as in Saw, for example – perhaps not the most successful example, but I think you will not deny that at least in a couple of moments they do such actions because of “stupidity against the background of despair”, that just jaw hangs), and stupid enough to be boring. So you're just waiting for another hero to die, so it's all over.
To sum it up, the film is not for everyone. It’s not so much a horror story as a social drama. Exposing the problems of a society that may not be close to you. I decided to write a negative review, firstly, because I personally did not like the film, and for some reason there are no negative reviews here at KinoPoisk. Second, just to pour my soul out, because I ruined Friday night for this movie. And finally, I write to perhaps warn someone against watching a movie that just doesn’t suit him or her (or, if not, at least make it clear what to expect so as not to harbor false hopes before watching).
P.S. If you start watching, look to the end.
Watched this cool comedy slasher satire 'Bodies Bodies Bodies' about a month ago and it still reappears in memory. The first thing I want to mention is the incredibly stylish soundtrack. The entire playlist from the film cuts into memory for a very long time, the tracks are selected flawlessly and perfectly complement the chaotic video sequence.
In the trailer, it is not clear how multifaceted the film will be, it may even seem quite primitive at first because of the comedic aspect, but in fact, it is a really strong and intellectually charged detective with unpredictable plot twists and colorful worked out characters. The film was produced by A24 studio, so there is no doubt about the quality, everything is performed at the highest level.
Glamorous youthful nihilism, trends, branded things, shooting on smartphones, gossip, stylish outfits, bombastic irony - much has absorbed this film cocktail from the culture of our time. You may have guessed the demographics of the film. Therefore, if you already have a headache from this set of words, it will be better to pass by, and if not, then there will only be more.
Sensual, lively and refreshingly immodest. There will be so much slang in the film that the full vocabulary will be understood only by Generation Z. From beginning to end, the entire film is a tribute to pop culture, the digital generation, TikTok influencers, YouTubers, celebrities and media heroes of our time. Therefore, you need to watch the film strictly in the original. It will be very funny and painful at the same time - the film masterfully plays and shows the inside out of the media, inflating the degree of satire to insane heights.
The social media metaphor is perfectly integrated into a bloody, funny, damn smart plot with a daring unexpected twist at the end.
By the way, the dating app Tinder conducted a limited cinematic horror event called 'Swipe Night', in which you could make choices that affect the development of the plot and help in finding the killer. So, 'Bodies Bodies Bodies' is literally the same interactive experience, but in film format.
A sense of humor mixed with ridiculous murders create a riotous and entertaining picture, and the director makes you wonder who the real killer is and what is happening at this party. This masterpiece is a kind of hybrid from the series 'Euphoria' and a conceptually similar film 'Assassination Nation'. Both are very bright, stylish and crazy in nature. Other, lower-level films from the same format 'Tragedy Girls' and 'Infamous'.
The whole caste, especially the young female cast, plays flawlessly, wit oozes in every dialogue, the mood changes from friendly to extremely aggressive. The film is so socially charged that it is really better to show it to children, because role models of daring alpha boss girls will pull out quotes, given how sharp the language of the heroines of the film is.
In short, watching the development of events is very interesting and it is almost impossible to predict anything. Technically, the film is also very creative. Since the action takes place at night in a huge mansion, to create an oppressive atmosphere, light sources are glowing sticks, phone screens, etc. In general, the atmosphere of insanity, tension and paranoia was very carefully orchestrated.
The versatility of 'Bodies Bodies' also lies in the presentation of the plot through complex dynamics related to gender, age, class and internal insecurity.
And finally, what is going on in the film we will find out a few minutes before the credits. And with the understanding, there will come a desire to review the film again, considering many aspects that you will miss when you first watch.
Being cancelled is bad, being murdered is worse.
