"Babaduct" on minimalism Another brilliant localization, which, in principle, will not deceive true fans of horror. There is nothing to do with the Astral here. But there's a good post-horror. Original. Well written. With a nice cast in the face of the main protagonist.
I wrote earlier that in my 30s, the horror genre doesn’t look like it used to. For the most part, I see in these films either a black comedy or a maximum thriller, so I try to pay attention rather to the segment of art and post-horror, where there is at least a sane controlling idea. I was lucky, though to a lesser extent than before. Yes, once again we will look at motherhood and self-sacrifice for the sake of the child, but at least it is not as cliched as in the usual classic horror that came out earlier. The cameramanship of the film is a plus: you don’t need a horse budget à la ‘It’ Muschetti to tell a good story. The movie is quite fascinating, and it is interesting to watch the twists and turns of the plot. Good sound design and camera work. Good makeup, special and practical effects. Open ending in place (check in the desired check box). I didn’t like the way the movie was edited: a ragged chronology that doesn’t work in a plus for the script, the complexity and ornateness of the plot are also not very appropriate. It was possible to put everything in a normal sequence and not lose anything.
Acting work is good, but, as befits such genre films, the main character in the person of Anna Camp steals all screen time, and it is pleasant to follow her throughout the narrative.
'Astral. "Woman in Black" is the author's film by Thomas Marquese, who clearly scratched ideas from the successful post-horror movie "Babaduct". Both are about the same thing. Only that was better and more stylish, and then everything defaulted, as well as the rest of the work produced by Shudder. You can skip, but if you decide to look, you are unlikely to be disappointed, although, judging by the assessment on the aggregators, people remained depressed.
