Not everything Irish is equally useful. And tasty. I'm talking about Irish cinema. But I liked this series. Light, with a beautiful picture, live play of all actors without exception and stunning views of Irish nature. And black humor here is in no way inferior to the notorious English. Many accuse the series of promoting same-sex relationships, I don’t know, I saw here just a statement of the fact that in the real world is, alas, not uncommon, no more. And even though I guessed closer to the finale what the denouement would be, it was still fascinating to watch. Special thanks for the chic soundtrack, many things I knew that I did not know - found on the Internet. I’m not a fan of U2 and Bono in particular, but I really liked his daughter Eve Hewson. However, all the performers of the roles of bad sisters tried to fame, creating bright and different types. And for the role of the "finished" Dane Klas Bank a separate respect. I recommend it to all those who want to ventilate their brains without too much strain.
Five sisters are five stories that are closely related.
It should be noted that the series was not captured from the first series. The first couple of episodes were a little perplexed - yes, the main character is an unpleasant type and a complete scoundrel, but is this a reason for murder? But further, the tragic story of each character is revealed and the level of hatred for the main character is growing.
We can say with confidence that the series will not leave you indifferent. Grace’s helplessness and timidity was very annoying, and I wanted to shake her up and say: “What are you?” Open your eyes! Also a lot of negative emotions caused the main villain. In my opinion, the viewer would be interested to look into his past and understand why he became so? There was one small scene from the recent past, showing the relationship with his father, but I would like to dive more into his past.
After watching the series, there is a lot to think about, including the emotions caused by each character.
10 episodes flew unnoticed, which is not so common recently with mini-series.
Such a series could be released only in our time when the concept of “abusive relationships” was popularized. It was shot, of course, by a team of women, and the series itself is rather female, despite the rather black humor.
I liked a lot about the series: the actors’ play, the locations (heroes’ houses, landscapes), the music, the opening credits – there was some kind of lively approach to creation, creativity, originality. I like the “flip” of time back and forth. I liked the sisters, their stories, all revealed and so different.
The series certainly provides food for thought about the relationship presented by the two spouses. The main character is rather a collective image of various manifestations of abuse. And the series seems like an attempt to hint to some viewers that "violence" in relationships is unacceptable. Like many people, the main character was extremely disgusted. But his wife causes not only sympathy, but also irritation and the desire to shake her well.
What I didn’t like about the series. The line of the two brothers seemed boring and long. The character of a pregnant wife is not clear to me. All the drama with bankruptcy did not cause sympathy.
The love line, too, unfortunately, not particularly hooked.
And what I thought was an over-the-top topic was alcohol. We all don't mind spending the evening with a glass of wine! But real alcoholism is not the strength of a strong independent woman.
Finally, the attitude towards men. The series features a pair of more or less normal men, one gay and the other cheating. Feminism is feminism, but I would like a little more good male characters. It may seem that the only way to happiness and freedom is to live alone. There is a lot to think about.
The main idea that visited me after watching - you can not save a person from the abuser with any persuasion, explanations and even force - only he himself, realizing, can change his life and rid himself of violence, in this case by his spouse.
5 sisters, one of whom is under the influence of her husband-abuser, who every day puts psychological pressure and violence on her, and not only on her, but also on her sisters – all he somehow harmed and even ruined life, while succeeding at work (as later it turned out thanks to the machinations that he built against employees), sober, family man, wife – housewife (like a blessing). In the course of the film, the sisters’ personal life is revealed before us – by no means perfect, with mistakes, lies and even betrayals – but it is real, and even a lesbian couple who adopted a child is shown to be loving and sincere – in contrast to the perverse relationship of the main villain and his bullied wife, as well as their teenage daughter, who is already beginning to understand something about her father.
In general, the film is interesting, with a pleasant aftertaste.
PS: Separately nice to mention beautiful but not perfect actresses, with imperfect bodies (like humans), unfilled faces and ordinary human teeth (not toilet veneers).
It’s a really good show with an unexpected ending. I want to celebrate the performance of every actor, including children, beautiful castes. I really liked the fact that the series was filmed in Ireland - not so many TV series about life in this country comes out, it was interesting. Actresses who play sisters at first don’t seem very similar to each other, but over time, you get drawn in, and acting makes you believe that there are real family ties between them. I would say that the series is slightly delayed in the middle, but it can not be said that it is boring.
But I have one remark that haunts me. Other reviews of the series praise John Paul’s character for playing such a repulsive character. Well, I have no questions about acting. But the writers, in my opinion, lacked his “negativeness”. It’s hard to say what this has to do with it, but when you watch it, you see, yes, an unpleasant, repulsive character, but there is nothing out of the ordinary in him that you can really decide to kill him. Especially in the beginning, when he had not yet blackmailed Ursula, cheated Becca, etc., and the plan to kill him had already begun to be implemented. I think everyone has a nasty relative who pisses you off, but you won't kill him for it. So he didn't do anything that deserved to die when the sisters started trying. Sometimes his reactions could even be understood. For example, when he learned that one of the sisters was cheating on her husband, he first told her to abandon her lover, otherwise he would tell her husband about it. Yes, he may have behaved badly along the way, but is this the reaction of a negative character? Perhaps the writers wanted to preserve the light, comedic, slightly absurd spirit of the series, so portraying "black" would be inappropriate. In any case, the series is good, and if it wasn’t for this moment, which kept me busy watching the first episodes, you could say that this is the perfect family detective for a couple of evenings.
While we are creaking tightly in the direction of ' traditional values' where domestic violence is the same rubbish that you should not take out of the house, because if you do, no one will help, but only you will be blamed, on the other side of the globe people are increasingly thinking about how to overcome this evil at the level of a dense collective unconscious. For devastation, as Professor Preobrazhensky said, is not in the closets, it is primarily in the heads. And few art is comparable to cinema in the power of influence on gray cells.
Pioneers in the theme of collective female revenge on the patriarchal abuse and the chanting of sisterhood as a new model of relations between women were the creators ' Big Little Lies' In his ironic way, the dialogue started continued Mark Cherry and shared colorful fantasies about why women kill & #39; After 2019, almost every director, especially directors, began to consider it their duty to talk about the pain. Thus 'Sisters Garvey' had to work hard to find their way to the viewer (mainly abroad), already somewhat saturated with content on a given topic.
And the situation was saved by Irish black humor in the spirit of Martin McDonagh.
When (sorry spoiler) in the first frame you see a riser at the deceased, you understand that it will only be more fun, despite the seriousness of the conversation started. Because, frankly, everyone is a little tired of the moral tone of most modern TV series about female revenge in the context of self-defense.
The humor in ' The Conspiracy of the Garvey Sisters' differs from Mark Cherry's snobbish sarcasm, it is simpler and more lively. The most dangerous situations in the series at the same time look so ridiculous that it is impossible not to laugh. At the same time, even to the notorious scoundrel, whose member protruded from the coffin in the first frames, a bit of sympathy also wakes up. But quickly gives way to the desire to strangle him with his own hands, because, God sees, such a scoundrel was waiting in the native hell.
Images of sisters also cause a whole range of emotions, and are not based only on pity for the unfortunate victim. Everyone has their own good reason to kill a finished asshole, and everyone has enough skeletons in their closet to begin to wonder if I have the right to punish a sinner if I am not without sin.
The sisters are confronted by two brother insurers, who also have not everything smooth in terms of motivation, and have their own family dirty secrets, forcing them to persist in their investigation. Guys can also be understood, but I really want the sisters to remain free.
Conflicts in the series, as you can see, abound, which keeps the narrative in tone, not letting you get bored. Add the perfect camera work, sound, editing, color, and here’s another BAFTA nominee. And maybe the winner, but this will not be known until May 14.
The second season of Bad Sisters will be released in September 2023. True, the final of the first seems to have left no clear groundwork for the future, but are there still some assholes in Ireland that the Garvey sisters will have to deal with? The question is rhetorical, don't answer it.
At the beginning it is slim and stretched, at the end it is already dynamic. The idea is very controversial - I saw that good in a war with evil itself becomes evil. But it is unlikely that the writers laid this meaning, the more ironic.
Surprisingly fresh and tart, like a sip of whiskey in the Irish air, the series. Very dynamic. He's shrill in places. Real funny in some places.
It would seem: the whole plot is exhaustively described in the description, moreover - in the very first minutes of viewing this ' Detective' we roughly know who the killer is, who was killed and for what; Like - what is there to watch? But it is very difficult to escape.
I would like to express a huge admiration to Klas Bang: this rare talent to play such a bastard so reliably that it would seem that it is simply impossible to hate anymore, but he surprises us again and again.
'Mommy' just opened a new bottom for me wildly, but it's really beautiful: it's so hard to really surprise, really believe the characters; usually everyone is cliched and worn.
A special thank you would like to say to the creators of the series for not cramming there fashionable now agenda 'queer-tras-homo-lesbo-nigger-oppressed'. It's just that there's no word for that. There's one female character who has a wife and a child, but it doesn't affect anything; it's just a fact that's just there. It should be, I think, without all these cinematic artificial attempts.
The series is completely finished, there are no hints of ' maybe we will shoot something else if we collect the box office' which is also not unimportant.
I really recommend it.
A great show that reminded me so much 'Why Women Kill' Quality play of actors, video series, plot. And a gradual flow of information. In the end, everything is not as obvious as it seemed at the beginning. Characters of heroes are revealed gradually. At first, the ladies are disgusting, and the main antihero man is always trying to outdo them in this. It was possible to turn the plot and more interesting, with 'killing women' it worked. But in the second half of the series, female authorship and the current left agenda clearly began to be viewed in the form of the fact that if the guilty character is a woman, then she is not at once guilty. To the extent that she is not interested in the police. A man is always worse than any bad woman, and a traditional man is the worst. Well, lesbian families with children and gay couples are about the same as traditional ones. Due to the same circumstances, the ending was morally dubious. But against the background of everything else, I recommend watching the series.
In the center of the film, the confrontation of the numerous Garvey sisters against the husband of one of the sisters. And an insurance agent investigating the sudden death of that same husband. The sisters are charming, intelligent and, in general, successful. The husband (brother-in-law) surprisingly collected almost all the characteristics of a rare scoundrel. A slippery slug under the mask of a good guy. Insurance agents in the face of two completely different brothers are also quite entertaining characters.
The film is dynamic, interesting, replete with events, gossip, intrigue and investigation. After all, he has as many as five sisters. The main questions - How? and Who? remain unsolved until the very end. 10 episodes seemed a lot, sometimes the plot seemed like a mess.
Overall, it's quite fascinating. The question of morality remains open. The whole movie wanted to shake up the very wife of that scoundrel husband. If she's a stupid adult, why hate her husband? And a very strict question over the glasses - do we have the right to kill all the rare scoundrels? And the good, poor old lady? Oh, that wasn't good. Who knew?
I am writing this review about three days after the first season finale and the only thing that really surprises me is the 1,500 CP scores. This, in no other way, indicates the ignorance of fans of high-quality detective content about the existence of this series.
As soon as the series began to appear, I thought that ' Conspiracy of the Garvey sisters' it takes time to disperse and then he certainly will find his popularity, because usually such detective thrillers with a bunch of different intricacies quickly find their audience or recruit new faces into the ranks of admirers.
I do not want to go into the details of the plot, as I am afraid of indirectly spoiling something. I will only note that the mood and fascination of the series looks like a great ' Goodbye forever'.
' Conspiracy...' perfectly plays on the emotions of the viewer. In the process of viewing involuntarily ask yourself the question ' How can you hate a fictional character so much? The person who is just in the screen of your TV & #39; And then you realize that the image of the antagonist is built on endless examples of abusive relationships and these thoughts really become uncomfortable. From my point of view, actors who can lead the viewer to such emotions deserve the highest praise.
Summing up my short review, I note that 'Conspiracy...' is not only a fascinating detective attraction, but also a dark story about psychological violence and abuse, in which you do not voluntarily begin to think about the moral side of murder.
Another successful Apple TV+ project. I would definitely recommend it.
P. S. The rating was lowered for an extra, in my opinion, and strange secondary love story in the style 'Romeo and Juliet' I understand what is important for the plot, but it was worth allocating a little less screen time to this arc.
9 out of 10
The plot is simple. Of the five sisters, only one is married. And the son-in-law (Joe) is a complete bastard. They don't like him, he loves them. He's oppressing Grace, but she doesn't get it. He has something to blackmail each of his sister-in-law, and they have dirt on him. The sisters decided to kill him to solve all the problems. Only 10 episodes, and each sister develops a way to destroy the enemy, but each time they fail. But the son-in-law is still found dead. After Joe's death, the insurance company doubts that the client died of his own death, and the owners of the company (the two brothers) begin their own investigation to avoid paying insurance to the widow. The film is good because it shows a friendly sisterhood. Sisters take care of each other, but that doesn’t mean everything is in their openwork. There's enough trouble in your personal life. I enjoyed watching. No stupid episodes. High English quality. P.S. Translated illiterate translators son-in-law called brother-in-law.
