I'm more interested in the detective, the blurred boundaries, the mystery doesn't always show up clearly where a woman is diagnosed with superiority. She claims that her husband sent her for treatment, and is trying to appropriate her wealth, and accuses her of trying to poison him. The doctors of the clinic receive the patient with open arms, and Alice in the meantime makes inquiries about her place of detention, patients and a murder that occurred years earlier. Alice is intelligent, intelligent and she has a well-hung language, she has an answer to any question. You trust her unconditionally and worry when the clinic doctors question her sanity. Doctors are heartless and confident that since a person was in a psychiatric hospital - he is undoubtedly sick and taken to intensively treat the patient against her will. As the story progresses, you reluctantly begin to realize that Alice is quite possibly an unreliable narrator who only complicates the plot. This is an old technique that is often used in film and literature to confuse the viewer even more. The viewer has to trust it because he has no other source of information. She stumbles a couple of times, and the viewer immediately takes the side of a strict doctor who frowns his eyebrows and writes something down in a notebook. But Alice trusted us from the beginning and told us her plan, and she can't lie to us, and she doesn't seem crazy. We have to understand this complicated story, but not the fact that it will be possible to find the answers to all questions. The film is set in 1979 and the zeitgeist is immaculately recreated. The psychiatric hospital is a full-fledged hero of the story. The creators of the film with due attention to the interior and all the details of the room, which can not even believe that the film was shot not in a real hospital. Every patient in the clinic, even those who don’t interact with Alice and don’t say anything, has a perfect image of the character. At some point, the film turns into a real nightmare, and the viewer on his own skin can feel what it is like to become a patient of this institution. 154 minutes of the film fly by in one breath, and when the ending is taken by surprise, you want the film not to end. You're willing to spend another 154 minutes getting your hands full again, because you don't want to believe that you've been fooled so easily.

Oriola Paolo’s new film takes us back to 1979. Uncomfortable memories. This is what many Spaniards say about those days. Revisionists, perhaps, at all consider that time a complete madness. So in our tape, even within the framework of one psychiatric hospital, it is not easy to figure out who is really mad. The intrigue of the tape is built around the fact that one of the patients convincingly tries to prove that she is not crazy. The thing is, she was framed. This story is not new. However, thanks to the skill of Oriola Paolo, we will spend more than two hours wandering through the labyrinths of fantasies of the main characters. Simple plot twists will be presented so exquisitely that interest in the tape will not fade until the last minute. A pleasant addition is a detailed persona of the head of the hospital. Eduardo Fernandez did not play the authoritarian counterpart of Sister Ratched. We are a professional who is several times more talented and successful than his colleagues. He is inclined to take risks, bet on extraordinary decisions and make the final result. It is thanks to such elaboration of the personality of the main antagonist that the film avoids both the questions of the “fight for freedom” and the detective component. Fernandez complements the tape with intellectual enthusiasm, translating the entertaining picture to an order of magnitude higher. I would also like to mention visual solutions. I remember the camera meeting Barbara Lenny: the approaches, the plans from below. Thus, Paolo adds psychological tension around the heroine and actually enhances her play. 7 out of 10

11 January 2023 7 A psychological drama exploiting a rather popular topic is the imprisonment of a person in a mental hospital and his struggle to get out of it. Usually it is assumed that the person is not sick, and got into the institution not of his own will. I won’t spoil it, but this movie is not as it seems. Ambiguity lovers should like it. After all, there are a lot of twists, as well as in other works of this director. As for the film itself, the picture is pleasant, the actors’ play is good. The only thing I didn’t like was the end. Unlike the book, in the cinema it is open, but in my opinion, it is too rudely decorated. It's like a god out of a machine in ancient Greek comedies. This is probably all that caused me some dissatisfaction. In general, I can recommend the film to fans of twisted detective stories, although it is from the detective genre here and a little.

11 January 2023 8 The new work of the Spanish master of twisted detective thrillers Oriola Paolo (“Invisible Guest”, “Body”, “During a Thunderstorm”, the series “Harlan Coben. Innocent”). The novel is based on Torquato Luca de Tena, published in 1979, and it is the second adaptation of the book after the 1983 Mexican film of the same name with Lucia Mendes. Literally from the very credits, the director immediately begins to escalate tension, and from the very first scenes it is famous to twist the intrigue. The plot concept is reminiscent of one acclaimed film by a famous director, who was also shot on the book of a famous writer. By the way, now the question arises to this writer, how he “managed” 40 years after the release of the original so “gracefully” to reinterpret it. Great minds think the same way. Despite the long time of 2.5 hours, the tape does not sag for a moment, and the classic plot twists and deceptions, nevertheless, pleasantly surprise. The director holds the viewer by the throat with a strong hand until the spectacular and mysterious finale (the ending is somewhat different in the book). The actors in the film are type and good, and the main part was perfectly played by Barbara Lenny. Fans of detective stories with twists are definitely an asset. Good and strong genre work. 8 out of 10

The viewer will wait for more than two hours of constant doubts, generated by facts, in the sanity of Alice and the purity of her motives. Who lies, where the truth is not just paranoia? In part, the picture resembles “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, because here in the same way there is a gradual acquaintance with the local inhabitants of the chambers, they help the heroine to get to the truth, while others put sticks in the wheel. Despite the long time, the feeling of protractedness does not arise, and emerging more and more new facts only add interest. The hospital becomes a kind of labyrinth for Alice and it is unknown whether it will be possible to get out of it. Here the director plunges deep into the dark depths of the human psyche, showing that it is much easier to go crazy than to remain sane: “We are all looking for something, and madness is the fastest way to find it.” Moral: if a stool suddenly spoke to you, then do not rush to classify yourself as crazy, perhaps it is just a chair with a built-in assistant "Alice". As a result, an interesting thriller with secrets and intrigues, a slightly prolonged timekeeping and some plot holes. 7.5 out of 10

Innocent' 2021 All of them stand out significantly among other thrillers, as they are maximally saturated with plot twists, built around the theme of revenge and deception, often based on the concept of an unreliable narrator and are absolutely not afraid of excessive pathosity and unrealism. Usually, those who now try to make such a movie receive a wave of negativity in their address, criticism of the stupidity of the script and long-outdated standards of film narrative. But Oriolo Paolo somehow magically manages to cause delight in the audience. His new film 'Curved Lines of the Lord' (or 'Curved Lines of Destiny') also has all these characteristics. The film begins with the fact that a young beautiful spectacular woman is registered in a psychiatric clinic. We learn from a psychiatrist that she tried to poison her husband. She claims that he is trying to get rid of her and take all the money for himself. In addition, we learn that the patient is actually a private investigator and is only pretending to be sick to investigate the death of a young man who died here a few months earlier. . . This is just the beginning and the next two and a half hours Oriol Paolo suggests you get lost in guessing and building hypotheses, is the main character mentally ill, or is she actually investigating a murder? Which character really represents evil and which is good? What is true and what is true, and what is fiction? Who is really trying to outwit who? In short, if you like famously twisted plots and can easily close your eyes to the plausibility and template elements of the narrative, then ' God’s Curves Lines' will give you pleasure. The main roles were played by Barbara Lenny ('The Invisible Guest', 'The Skin I Live In') and Eduard Fernandez ('Perfect Strangers', 'While the war is going on'). By the way, the story about a psychiatric clinic and a detective may seem familiar to you not only because of the Isles of the Damned' 2010, but because of the Mexican film 1983 ' God twisted lines of fate' starring Lucia Mendes.
