This documentary dedicated to the life and work of Fyodor Dostoevsky was first shown by the First Channel on the day of the bicentenary of F. Dostoevsky.
And the goal of the project: to get closer to solving the identity of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky.
It is clear that F. Dostoevsky is a unique writer. When you start reading his books, it becomes noticeable. The difficult syllable of the pages of his works does not resemble the ease of Pushkin, the laconicism of Chekhov. Dostoevsky’s style in its own way is heavy, gloomy and not forgotten.
At the same time, Dostoevsky deeply and in detail shows the human soul in its most diverse states, shades.
In this film, it may be possible to come to an understanding: what is behind this heaviness of Dostoevsky’s pages? Is it possible to make a medical diagnosis of the painful state of Dostoevsky, reflected in his work, today?
Project host Anton Shagin emotionally, artistically, deeply talks about Dostoevsky.
The film presents the reflections of modern famous Russian personalities about F. Dostoevsky: TV presenters, athletes, musicians. The film shows how the descendants of F. Dostoevsky live. What do they do?
More tells about the life and personality of F. Dostoevsky Igor Volgin is a professor who studies the life of Dostoevsky.
What we find out from the project. F. Dostoevsky first studied to be an engineer. Lost his parents early. He passed through hard labor, where Dostoevsky came close to understanding man. He suffered from epilepsy, as did many of the greats. He suffered from gambling.
Dostoevsky may have known moments of bliss, harmony, and spiritual enlightenment. He knew moments of suffering and despair. Dostoevsky created images of saints in his books: Prince Myshkin, Alesha Karamazov. And the images of sinners on the shadow side: Svidrigailov, Fedor Karamazov, etc. And more complex images, when good and evil are bizarrely intertwined in one hero. And the image from this becomes the most vivid. Such are Raskolnikov, Sonia Marmeladova.
Igor Volgin said that it is wrong to identify the writer Dostoevsky with his heroes. Dostoevsky managed to overcome many of his passions: gambling, alcoholism. Be the winner over them. And to win because of their creativity. Dostoevsky thought a lot about Russia, loved his homeland. I believed in God.
We can understand that F. Dostoevsky suffered a lot in his life. He said, “To write deeply, you have to suffer a lot.” But this led him to understand life, man, over the mystery of man he pondered in all his work. And his name, his thoughts are left in the centuries, resonating with many generations of people in the world. This is a testament to the strength of his talent.
