The play inside the play inside the film I watched this film on the advice of friends, fortunately it was found with Russian subtitles, as I love.
A rather unusual comedy about two (?) writers trying to create the wrong play, or the script that comes to life before our eyes. They periodically quarrel, rewrite something, change details, including the nationality of their heroes, which is why the resulting story undergoes major changes that are interesting to observe.
The film was based on a real play written by the director’s father, Gordon Bressack, who is now deceased but remains in history as a talented screenwriter. Including he worked on the animated series known to us since childhood, like ' Pinky and Brain' (by the way, one of the writers in this film is played by Maurice LaMarche, who voiced Brain).
This is probably one of the few films where the genres are not the notorious 'drama'. In fact, the film is too frivolous to contain any drama (except drama:). There is, of course, one scene with the disclosure of the character, but even its main characters are immediately erased so as not to burden the viewer. So the film is perfect if you are looking for entertainment for the evening, with humor and unpredictable plot twists, of which there are very many.
The serious side of the film is also present: there is a social commentary on the underside of the film and theater industry, and other serious topics, presented very unobtrusively and in a humorous form.
The picture received high user ratings on the website 'Rotten Tomatoes' who liked the meme of everything that was happening, references and breaking through the fourth wall.
