The place where time stopped Whipped cream, golden pancakes, and sugar crystals on your lips. This is how Nikander Fedorov remembers his childhood, which he tries to carelessly return as a child, in the film 'How to fix a bicycle'.
I have never had a childhood like this: in the countryside, living day by day in the edge of the forest, in a place where time seems to have stood still. But despite all this, I felt the grief of youth through the prism of other people's memories of childhood. I felt all that guilt when the bike crashed. I also wanted to leave the house, smashing an important thing for me or my mother. It was a tragedy!
One of the favorite comic moments, of which there are many, is when the main character, very uncertainly decides to leave the house, and comes home to a friend at night. And they go together to the backyard, light a meter bonfire, and burn potatoes, stew, and a large cucumber on it. It's very emotional and exciting.
In the film, the main character is full of deep, and as it seems, stupid thoughts. He leaves his mother and father a lyrical letter, looks into the river, beats the reflection with his fist. He's 10 years old, and he's willing to take his act far away so he doesn't hurt anyone. And if before that, the film was in the dynamic narrative of a certain fairy tale by Wes Anderson, then in exile, it turns into a thriller. Disturbing music, paranoia, it is lost, not only physically, but internally too. And the local legend about the cannibal in the village, adds even more wariness. All this is incredibly felt, almost every flight of the camera caused me goosebumps.
This is a very kind, aesthetically pleasing film. After that, I would love to eat Yakut cream and cheese. And although it's not part of my childhood, I'd like to go to a place where time has stopped. And the most important question: 'How to fix a bike?' if you want to know the answer, be sure to watch as soon as it comes out in the movies or online.
