A game worth a living. A long time ago, when I first got the Internet, I discovered the world of browser games. What was not there: various shooters, and fermenters and even races. But of particular interest always caused quests from the category of "Get out of the room." I was always afraid to play them, there was something mysterious there. Especially often these quests were in the style of horror, with all sorts of sharp sounds, jumping faces on the whole screen and so on. The film "Dead Game" tells about the ancient time when such games were just emerging.
In the center of the plot are two people – a young man and a girl. They are old friends who have not seen each other for a long time because they live in different countries. Thanks to progress (the action takes place in 1999), they call on a computer using webcams. At first, they just communicate, but when a mutual acquaintance sends them a link to a strange browser game, our heroes, without thinking twice, decide to play it.
The game is a quest, and its goal is to find a way out of a large mansion, wandering through many rooms, and solving various puzzles. I described something similar at the beginning of the review. Only in the case of our heroes, you can play it online, and it's kind of too realistic. In general, the film is slightly reminiscent of “Jumanji” in the virtual universe, but only in some moments.
In general, horror movies about computer games are not something rare. Yes, even in series like “Superkhov” or “X-Files” there are stories about the heroes getting into virtual reality. But in most cases, the action of the plots takes place almost entirely in virtual reality, which is why what is happening is not so frightening. In the case of this picture, the game is only part of the action, and the characters themselves are in the real world, which is why watching is not only interesting, but also scary, because it is more realistic.
In general, tickling the nerves of the film is great. This is facilitated by good acting. Watching the characters, we really see ordinary young people who are happy to communicate, and at the same time have fun. On the technical side, I think that experienced programmers and computer scientists can certainly find illogicalities in technical aspects, but for the average PC user, everything is quite plausible. As for screeners and other methods to scare the viewer, everything is also implemented at a very good level. Separately, I note the music from the game, which really catches up with horror.
As a result, we have a good horror film, with an original presentation of the plot. It was very interesting to watch, and quite scary. The short duration is also good, as you do not have time to get bored. I would love to see the next one.
