The ninth James Bond movie was much more entertaining than the 8th. If in the previous film I just got used to Roger Moore and could not immediately perceive him as the new James Bond, but in this film everything changed.
The picture from the first seconds begins to please, there is a very cool villain Scaramanga performed by the brilliant Christopher Lee, and his little assistant Hervé Villeshesa was very pleased with his both action-packed moments and comic ones.
And the very confrontation of Bond against Scaramanga, as it seems to me, they were worth each other, I liked both the history of the confrontation and the development of the storyline with their confrontation.
At first, how Scaramanga looks, few people know, this has a kind of advantage.
And their first meeting was very interesting, and the subsequent continuation. There were a lot of action moments, and of course the final fight may have been not very long, but in terms of acting it looked quite plausible. Christopher Lee perfectly portrayed the finale of his hero.
I really liked the new female heroine performed by Britt Ekland, Goodnight impressed both with her beauty and of course with her acting, the chemistry between her and Roger was excellent, and the final episode of course was very happy. The final song is a pleasure to listen to.
Roger Moore never thought I would say it, but in this movie he was the perfect James Bond. His confrontation against Scaramanga, as already said, was top.
It was amazing to see him so young, for me he was always associated with the role of Saruman, although on his account a huge number of roles. In the role of Scaramanga was good, with his motivation and his special world.
Britt Ekland, very beautiful, good and spectacular in the role of Goodnight, at first it was even a little sorry that James gives her so little time, as she is luxurious and interesting. But over time, everything changes, and the final episode looked very romantic.
Nick Neck was very pleased with his actions, so small, but also dangerous and very cunning. Especially one of his final confrontations with James looked very funny.
The ninth film turned out to be attractive, interesting, action-packed, which is very pleasant to watch.
Perhaps it's about Guy Hamilton's addiction and experience with Roger Moore, but after Live and Let Die, the director channeled the British rush and spirit of the '70s to uncover the villain. The Man with the Golden Gun is bigger, more dynamic, and part of the credit goes to Christopher Lee. The exposition acts fraudulently so that the viewer feels the danger and excitement of the antagonist, and in conjunction with the assistant dwarf, the sinister tandem acquires a certain suspense and intrigue.
Roger Moore is delicate and calculating. The adult actor does not fit much into the role of a seducer lover, but thanks to the main plot, this fact fades into the background. It is because of the resourcefulness and hidden personality of the villain, the tape gives what the spy franchise is designed for. Dangerous terrorist weapons that 007 must find before the villain, interesting gadgets of British intelligence, playing with the enemy according to his rules and excessive friendliness of the opposing parties.
The film adds an assistant to the brave Roger, which allows you to comedy beat attempts to drag him into bed. Not a typical lady in trouble. At the same time, the geography of travel is expanding, which is in contact with the Hong Kong police and a small traditional emphasis on martial arts. Constant change of locations does not bother. There is a template construction of the entanglement, when it seems that the villain has already been caught, that a dangerous artifact is under security, but the script changes the course not in favor of James Bond, thereby more sophisticatedly promoting the plot.
Unlike typical villains, and even from the previous “Rodgermur” opponent of the drug lord, Christopher Lee impresses with skill and gadgets as well as 007. A mirror maze on an island, a flying machine technically grounded by its wings. Either Saruman decided to fly to Hogwarts or go to Marseille. We should not forget that the years of the Cold War in the real world are undergoing a number of changes, so weapons of mass destruction are quite inventive. The film highlights almost fantastic oddities, the excitement of which causes positive emotions, and scientifically (within the framework of cinema) explains this or that action.
Of course, the ending of the film is predictable, but it was unpleasant to say goodbye to Count Dooku. Guy Hamilton put all the charisma and sympathy into him, allowing the hero to take risks himself, expose himself to danger and radiantly use an unusual golden gun. The ninth film about James Bond allows you to pay attention to the antagonist and equates him with the status of an agent of British intelligence. If Goldfinger acted on the side, and Blofeld spent most of the time weaving cunning nets stroking a white seal, then Mr. Scaramanga himself entered the confrontation, making him one of the unpredictable opponents of 007.
Kung Fu Bond vs. Dracula with a gun in Thai paradise
“The Man with the Golden Gun” is the ninth part of Bond, which was released in 1974 and was directed by Guy Hamilton, director of two previous films. But this film is notable primarily for this, and not even for the fact that it again plays the role of 007 agent Roger Moore, and those who act as his opponent, namely Christopher Lee. In addition to the fact that the actor is a cousin of the writer and creator of Bond Ian Fleming, Lee managed to play the canonical aristocratic vampire Count Dracula in the film of the same name by Terence Fisher in 1958 and in general, he fixed the image of an attractive movie villain. It will be Count Dooku from Star Wars and Saruman from Lord of the Rings. Without one, there probably wouldn’t be another.
Christopher Lee embodies on the screen the image of the mysterious assassin Francisco Scaramanga, who almost no one saw in the face. Scaramanga has a golden gun, gold bullets, a code of honor, his own island with a room of curved mirrors and a faithful servant-short Nick Neck (Herve Villeshez). Among other things, Scaramanga wants to personally kill Bond and sends a gold bullet to MI6 headquarters with two zeros and seven engraved on it. But to give the film a larger scale, it soon turns out that our supervillain was built on his island solar energy converter Solex (simply put, a solar gun), and to give the film more realism and relevance – the background takes the energy crisis of 1973. Since then, almost 50 years have passed, and the world's problems are still the same.
To help James Bond resolve this difficult situation will be actresses Maud Adams and Britt Ekland, without which he, of course, could not cope. Also at the time of the next water chase, you can watch another funny scene with a raspy sheriff from the previous Bond series. The chase here is generally quite fascinating and inventive. Bond makes a “barrel” over a destroyed bridge in his AMC Hornet, and Scaramangi’s car turns into a plane! All this recklessness is complemented by Bond’s flight to Hong Kong and the mandatory kung fu fights that came into vogue at the time. It is not that this film became very successful, but the franchise still continued its existence, and the movie island of Scaramangi turned into a real Thai attraction called “James Bond Island”.

In an effort to consolidate the success of "Live and Let Die" - the first Bond film, where Roger Moore debuted as 007 agent, Harry Salzman and Albert Broccoli soon began creating another film of the film series. For this, almost the entire crew of the previous film returned to their duties. Even Desmond Llewelyn returned to the role of Q (although he was absent last time for some reason I do not understand). Only in the chair of the composer, instead of George Martin, he again sat down, which was more a pleasant event than not. Not that I don't like Martin's work. But the soundtrack from Barry was used to hearing.
This time the choice fell on the last novel Ian Fleming "The Man with the Golden Gun", released after the death of the writer. However, as in previous times, only the plot was taken from the book itself, which the writers adapted to modern realities, moving the scene from Jamaica (because this region was in the previous film) to East Asia, mentioning the energy crisis and martial arts. Plus, taking a course on adventure and ease, a serious novel had to be diluted with humor during the film adaptation.
Perhaps for the first time in the history of Bond, you could see that the main character does not confront a criminal organization and does not try to save the world. All he wants is not to become the victim of the famous assassin Francisco Scaramanga, who announced the hunt for Bond. Yes, along the way, it turns out that this mysterious killer is related to one very important device that can stop the energy crisis. But the scale of the villainy of the antagonist will be much less than that of the same Goldfinger. from the film of the same name. This is the first time I’ve seen the movie (if not disappointed). But Roger Moore pleased with his final entry into the role. Even if the creators tried to do everything so that the viewer did not compare him with Connery, not allowing the newcomer to drive an Aston Martin DB5, drink a signature Martini cocktail with vodka, wear a tuxedo. Moore did well without the chips of his predecessor. He quite organically looked in the role of a charming spy, able to easily drag the girl he liked into bed with his grin and sense of humor.
Speaking of which, about the girl. Love interest 007 was played by two actresses (and both Swedes) - Mod Adams and Britt Ekland. But I can’t say they impressed me as characters. Because one played a madam suffering from connection with the killer, and the other - a frivolous and stupid blonde, the "luck" of which at the end of the picture you will not envy.
To return to the antagonist, I would like to mention Scaramanga, first of all, as an opponent who considered Bond to be his equal. It was also the first time in Bond. Yes, both Dr. Noe and Goldfinger had the hospitality to Bond the Captive. But Scaramanga, performed by cousin Ian Fleming, bribes, first of all, this atypical attitude. And so their duel resembles a duel of Titans (like Holmes and Moriarty). But I remember most of all the assistant of Scaramanga - Lilliput Nick-Nek (Herve Vilshez). So I want to say about this “small, but remote”, given how many tricks he committed throughout the film.
Although the creators did not initially seek to closely link Bond films with a single plot (which will be in the time of Craig), they still had some exceptions. As a rule, there was a connection between 2-3 films (the failure of Dr. Nou’s operation is mentioned in “From Russia with Love”, the confrontation between Bond and Blofield could be observed face to face in three films). The second film with Moore as Bond shares the first presence in both films of Sheriff Pepper. But I have to admit, this time he annoyed me less.
As for the overall impression of the film, it was mixed. For the first time, I did not like the title song performed by the winner of the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest. In my opinion, this pop song with electric guitars sounded somewhat vulgar. Perhaps in the scene where Bond goes one-on-one in a martial arts school with a local tough fighter, the creators wanted to ironically show their attitude to the fashion for Hong Kong kung fu fighters. But watching as an already elderly Moore takes away from the Asian, it was such a pleasure. After all, according to the laws of the genre, the 007 agent should come out of any situation as a winner, and not like that. But the geolocation of the film turned out to be good. The island where Scaramanga lived and today is a popular place in Thailand (although it is informally called Bond Island). And, of course, it is impossible to forget in the film the stunning flight of the Bond car to the other side of the river in 360 degrees during the pursuit of Scaramanga. Given the year of release of the film, this is certainly one of the most difficult and dangerous stunts in history.
Alas, but to repeat the success of “Live and Let Die” “The Man with the Golden Gun” failed. Although compared to the subsequent films with Moore, I can not call “Man...” the worst in the Bond. For Guy Hamilton, who directed 3 Bond films, this picture was the last in the framework of work on the franchise. But the director's departure was not yet a tragedy for the studio. Much more serious things were with the departure from EON Productions one of the creators of Bond Harry Salzman. His creative and personal differences with Albert Broccoli led to the fact that the new Bond film had to do better than the previous ones. But that will be another story...
Finally, after all the wanderings and tribulations, the franchise settled down and gained its former stability. Roger Moore, who debuted in the last part, secured the role of Bond, the ninth part, “The Man with the Golden Gun”, was released just a year after the previous one, and Guy Hamilton, the director of “Goldfinger”, I recall, and this is the third Bond he shot in a row and the fourth in general. But the movie itself just got worse. Why is that so?
Well, first of all, there are banal few interesting and memorable scenes in it, the authors’ imagination failed this time. There's a lot of stuff here: kung fu, and mind games with the main villain, and a funny dwarf assistant, and chases, and everything. But, nevertheless, most scenes do not shine originality, and so much so that there even appeared an American village cop from the previous part, although it would seem – a cartoon character for one film. No, I was even happy with its appearance, but I tend to regard it as a lack of interesting author's ideas.
Secondly, the plot very often takes breaks for chatter, and meaningless, which greatly reduces the degree of interest in the viewer. But in the last part of the action almost never stopped, and for Bond this approach was the most suitable.
Third, the main villain this time turned out completely empty and faded. There is no threat in him, no charisma in him, and he is not even ridiculed properly. Well, the third nipple on his body - is that funny? And it is amusing how Hamilton returned to the "golden" origins. Scaramanga, just like Goldfinger, is obsessed with gold and has everything in gold, especially that gun. But at the same time, he did not stand next to the same Goldfinger from the third part. It is a pity that the main villain was not made by the assistant of Scaramanga, a dwarf butler - it is much more interesting to watch him, and he causes much more sympathy.
Fourth, since we're talking about humor and Hamilton, I'll mention that the jokes in this part turned out flat. Mostly because they're not all about irony and ridicule, as they used to be, but about genitals, fifth dots and nipples. Then Bond will curtail the sumoist his dignity, then the companion will accidentally press a button with her ass, which will launch a beam, which, in turn, can easily kill Bond himself ... well, I already mentioned the extra nipple. And I just listed the ones that I remember.
The companion, by the way, since I mentioned it, turned out in principle not bad, but so, from the category of “nothing special”. There is no history behind it, besides, they interact with Bond rather scantly and faintly. At least not annoying.
Fifth, continuing the theme of jokes, the picture this time became more serious ... well, by Hamilton's standards. But this is never good for her, because there is no interesting drama or entertaining semantic component here. One day the subject was raised with the main villain, who said: "We are alike, because we both kill on order." I got really tense and thought, ‘Oops, something interesting is coming up.’ And then Bond says, "No, you're worse than me because I kill the bad guys and you kill everybody." The topic is closed and never comes up again. Deep as ...
But the color scheme is noticeably gray, or what, and it only got worse. Perhaps the director wanted to demonstrate the seriousness of his intentions? Well, or I was just thinking.
And the last part about the technical part: the soundtrack is very sparse. There is nothing new in it, except for the title theme, which is not bad, but with the same “Live or let die” is not even nearby.
Summarize. Guy Hamilton wanted to diversify his Bond work with a film more seriously, but in the end only hit his face in the mud: few memorable scenes and a lot of chatter, which is why you often begin to miss, no main villain and in general all the characters except Bond (Roger Moore is still on top) and dwarf (he is cool), as well as degraded humor. Perhaps the worst part of Bond that I have seen (and I have only seen the first nine, I will make a reservation in advance).
With the director Guy Hamilton, by the way, there is a strange and very interesting pattern: he shot two of the best (" Goldfinger, Live and Let Die) and, at the same time, two of the worst Bond films (" Diamonds Forever) and this one. However, I still love this director for the two best parts mentioned above (recall what I judged from the first nine films) and for throwing up such curious and amusing contradictions, and no Man with the Golden Gun will make me love and respect this Bond director any less than before. Nevertheless, it's time for him to rest. And he will rest, because the next part will be directed by Lewis Gilbert.

In 2017, the year did not become one of the James Bonds – Roger Moore, just played 007 agent in “The Man with the Golden Gun”, and in 2015 – his main opponent in the film – Christopher Lee, who played the assassin Francis Scaramanga. But both of these actors will remain in the hearts of millions of Bond fans.
The ninth film of the franchise, shot in 1974, is built in the format of a duel between two opponents, equally dangerous and equally respectful of each other. Someone Franitzska Scaramanga, a killer who kills with a pistol cast from pure gold with the help of gold bullets, intends to get even with James Bond, and he, in turn, intends to prove again that Her Majesty’s Secret Service has trained one of its best agents in the wisdom of intelligence, decides to find Scaramanga first. Who will win the two-hour battle, who will outsmart his enemy?
When watching Bond with Roger Moore, the franchise went the way of mass requests of the audience, adding to the plot a certain element of pop-pop. If earlier references to the events taking place in the world were hidden, then starting with "Live and Let Die" began to appear absolutely unnecessary in the film, but mandatory for that time strokes. Stupid cops who are not destined to catch a single person, the mandatory presence in the frame of some idiot (in the case of 8 and 9 films of Bond – this is Sheriff Pepper performed by Clifton James) and some other aspects rather turn “The Man with the Golden Gun” into an adventure action movie, rather than an exquisite British dish about the legendary agent 007.
But despite this, it cannot be said that the ninth Bond film turned out to be everyday. Nope! As in the previous episodes, there are enough episodes that demonstrate excellent technical training and the desire to diversify not only the arsenal of 007, but also to add entertainment to the whole film. Performed trick "barrel" on the car, shot from the first take clearly demonstrates this and makes the viewer applaud the filmmakers of the 70s, because the trick is incredibly complex. From the outside it looks amazing, but imagine how much effort, calculations and other things were spent to make it what it turned out! Not every day you will see in the movies as the car flies over the abyss (albeit small in this case), rotating around its own axis!
Another episode that continues the evolution of Bond progressively, in direct relationship with the passage of time - the final duel of Bond and Scaramangi, offering the aesthetes of the genre to enjoy a silent, emotionally nervous, conducted to the first mistake of the enemy, the fight, where the foreground is not the ability to accurately and quickly shoot, but their own ingenuity and ability to lead the enemy on the wrong trail.
And, damn it, James Bond is always great at choosing his companions! Miss Goodnight performed by Swedish actress Brit Ekland is phenomenally sexy, charming and desirable!
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
" The difference between us is that I am a freelance artist and you work for British intelligence. Every shot I shoot costs a million dollars, and you in old age expect poverty payments.
The ninth film in the series tells the not quite traditional story of James Bond's adventures. The fact is that in the film “The Man with the Golden Gun” – agent 007 enters into a confrontation with the famous assassin – Francisco Scaramanga. The only thing that is known about him is that he kills his victims with gold bullets, and takes a million dollars from his wealthy clients for an order! The legendary killer has a dangerous hobby - to arrange duels on his island, which is equipped to the most advanced standards of technology. Participating in such competitions, Scaramanga tests his fortune and proves his own superiority over his opponents.
I remember that in addition to Roger Moore – finally taken on the role of 007 agent, Bondiana at one time could get a cult performer of negative roles – Christopher Lee. Who is expected, if I am not mistaken, not much is not enough - the role of Dr. No. And now he had the opportunity to play the opponent of the legendary special agent. In this film, Christopher Lee embodied on the screen ambiguous and charismatic image of the hitman of extra class - Francisco Scaramanga. Who uses only a weapon of individual production - a gold pistol, loading it with bullets of pure gold. This respectable bandit built a unique solar energy storage device on a rented island, which he could use as a substitute for electricity and fuel, or as a lethal weapon (which looks like a futuristic gun). The battle with James Bond is very interesting to watch. Both use fantastic gadgets, and Scaramanga has a car that, in the best traditions of “Fantomas” elegantly turns into an airplane. Having, unlike other enemies of Bond, only one henchman - a dwarf named Nuck - Nuck (whose role became the main one in the career of Hervé Virches), from whom, despite his small stature, 007 agent will have no less trouble than a dozen armed henchmen!
The script, written by Tom Mankiewicz on the basis of the novel by Ian Fleming of the same name, tells the story of a new Bond adventure observing a long-established stereotype: the beginning includes a spectacular scene, which is replaced by beautifully animated dashes - a prologue with a specially written for the film composition (this time with the song by Oswald Morris) performed by the singer Lulu - the winner of Eurovision - 69, and the plot contains an abundant number of action scenes interspered with humor, a spectacular villain and several sexual beauts with whom Bond enters in the next task of his government. The operator of the picture was Ted Moore - who has a difficult relationship with the authors of the project, who previously left Bondiana, then returned to it again. Of the “veterans” of the cycle, the invariable Bernard Lee (Bond boss – M), Lois Maxwell (Miss Moneypenny), Desmond Lewellyn (inventor of MI-6 – Q) were noted, as well as Clifton James (grouchy, comic Sheriff Pepper from New Orleans) who has a full-fledged “comeo” here. The action takes place in Bangkok, where he comes with his fat wife, who is on vacation sheriff. Who "smiles" not only get wet again from the water races arranged 007, but also to be with him in the same car when Bond will pursue Mr. Scaramanga, who kidnapped his partner - a charming blonde with a funny name Goodnight. Actress Britt Ekland, who played her, is definitely one of the most beautiful Bond girls. Especially seductive she looks closer to the finale when walking around the picturesque island in one bikini.
Costing the studios “Metro – Goldwin – Mayer” and “United Artistes” only 7 million, “Man with the Golden Gun” brought at the box office about 100. Compared to its predecessor, this is a less impressive indicator. But boxing - the office of "Bondiana" was often feverish. It also happened that the picture barely absorbed the cost of production. So, financial criteria are not always the last resort in discussing the success or failure of a picture. For example, the same “Diamonds Forever” – personally to me, despite returning to the image of 007 agent – its first artist Sean Connery, as well as large rental fees – seemed a long and boring film franchise, its classic period. But not recognized by Albert Broccoli and Harry Salzman spin - off under the ironic for Connery title "Never Say Never" - in my opinion an excellent picture. The more remarkable “The Man with the Golden Gun” is that its author is still the same Guy Hamilton – shooting for “Bondiana” is the fourth picture. Which, like Live and Let Die, can be safely attributed to the best films of the franchise, especially if you choose from those in which Bond played Roger Moore. And finally - the picturesque beauty of Thailand led me to the idea that much later, starring in the directorial debut of the action - star of the 90s Jean - Claude Van Damme - "In Search of Adventure", Roger Moore helped the film group find suitable places for exotic shooting of Thai nature.
The previous film “Live and Let Die” was good and I liked it very much, but the second part of “Bondiana” with Roger Moore (the Man with the Golden Gun) I liked twice. The acting is great, cool Bond, charismatic villain, chases, fights are good, in general the best part of Bond with Roger Moore. I really liked the villain! He was played by a young, brilliant actor Christopher Lee. Lee was brilliant! The villain turned out charismatic and interesting. And Scaramanga, in my opinion, is the best villain in Bondiana, he doesn’t want to destroy the world or conquer it, he just wants to do a duel between him and Bond, only to return from the duel only one and Scaramanga wants to do it for the sake of principle and that’s a big plus.
The plot is interesting, intriguing and not boring with an original beginning and a chic ending, in the film a cascade of actions and plot twists. Roger Moore plays perfectly Bond charismatic, cool and the favorite of all girls. And his passion turned out to be beautiful, attractive and not annoying.
In general, a great spy thriller and action movie, which turned out better than the previous part. The film is worth watching. The film did not disappoint me.
But James Bond will return in The Spy Who Loved Me.

About how James Bond got into a fight with a Goldfinger fan.
His ninth film assignment, the popular hero of books by Ian Fleming and films by Albert Broccoli, James Bond, received in 1974. His target was Sarumanga. He possesses a powerful laser that converts the radiation from the source of life on Earth into a source of death. But his favorite weapon remains the golden gun - not so much a banal murder weapon as a personal accessory.
The gilded edges of Guy Hamilton's Bond, shine in different ways. The beginning sparkles brightly and the end is a little dimmer. The film echoes previous films of the famous film series. With Goldfinger's attachment to the yellow metal. With "You Only Live Twice" a Japanese Bond vacation and another giant laser, the truth is now ground-based. With the previous film of the series “Live and Let Die” – here Bond again confidently races on a motorboat. In terms of tricks, the picture is remembered by Bond’s spectacular “Evel Knievel” on a car and Sarumanga pilot.
You get used to Roger Moore and you don't miss Sean Connery. In terms of his love interest, there is again a double - two beauties: brunette Andrea and blonde Goodnight. The first is normal, the second is that stupid. But still, in choosing the best, you inevitably come to a compromise. Sarumanga played by Christopher Lee is good. Dark in texture, but does not fade in charisma, his successor - Nick Nag - Herve Villesez. And then there's Clifton James again. J.V. Pepper. He's pissing again. But less. This is the last film with this character.
"The Man with the Golden Gun" Lulu sings. I didn't like it at all.
The Man with the Golden Gun is considered one of the most unsuccessful Bond films. I didn’t like the song, but the film was great.
James Bond will return in The Spy Who Loved Me.

The film was based on the last and not the most successful novel by Ian Fleming, however, as in many adaptations of Bond books, only the title was used, and several key characters were used. As a result, it turned out not the most successful movie, the tape has interesting ideas, but it is slightly secondary. The general canvas of the film again, a la Diamonds are forever, only here the action is transferred to Asia, although it may be the fault of director Hamilton and screenwriter Mankiewicz. The Bond character one-to-one copies the same picture, Moore dullly repeats his predecessor, and the tape repeats the previous two series. Plus, not all is well with the 007 identification, again there is no vodka martini, no tuxedo, just some white jacket, no Bond mobile, absolutely no gadgets.
But despite this, the tape has remarkable finds in the first place is the villain Scaramanga, he is brighter than the book prototype, Christopher Lee is magnificent, he is so good that in scenes with 007 you switch to Scaramanga, a much brighter and more charismatic scum. Very sexy and beautiful girls in the film, and very charming short Nick Nuck.
In short, not the best movie in the series, but very interesting.

Almost painlessly there was a transfer of James Bond laurels from Sean Connery to Roger Moore in the previous series of the immortal spy saga “Live and let die”, so the next year there was a new series of “bonds” with the intriguing title “The Man with the Golden Gun” and the viewer in anticipation of a new spectacle bit his lip, waiting for new enemies, with whom 007 will surely deal and save everyone, and, and, of course, new stunning ladies who will fall before the interesting magician of super-tech, the chief scout was ready to learn about it.
This time, James Bond faces a new danger: a killer who likes to send people to the next world with the help of gold bullets from a similar golden gun sends a “black mark” (not really black, but just gold) to our superspy. James Bond receives a recommendation to disappear for a while, because Scaramanga is unknown to anyone and his bullet always reaches the target. "Ha!" exclaimed Bond in his hearts, "Ha!" exclaimed the audience, who knew the character of this fearless man. Of course, James Bond will not disappear, he will find Scaramanga himself and enter into a mortal battle with him. Who will win? The question is incorrect, ask: “How will he win?”
In this case, when the threat is not before the whole world, but before James Bond himself, he seemed to have to count on himself, because he managed to brilliantly complete operations alone, but MI6 does not leave its best agent, soon two henchmen join Bond. One of them is Chinese officer Hip (actually an ethnic Japanese Sun-Tek O, but we do not recognize narrow-eyed Asians), and the other, more precisely, the other is a girl and, of course, a stunning girl with an interesting name Goodnight (Swedish Britt Ekland), a short-term romance loomed on the horizon immediately. Sorry, rhetoric. And with friends, James Bond goes ahead to meet his victory over a dangerous intruder.
“The Man with the Golden Gun” will be the last film in the “bond” cycle for director Guy Hamilton, and exactly ten years before the release of this film, he gave the viewer an excellent spectacle from the same series called “Goldfinger”, which is called almost a reference in the entire franchise. Hamilton did not change anything in his author’s handwriting when working with the “Bondian” in “The Man with the Golden Gun”. He almost immediately rocks the boat, launching the hero through all the virtuoso dangers from which the common man would not get out, but this is Bond! James Bond! A little detective (still need to trace the chain that will lead the superspy to Scaramanga) and the rest of the action is a dynamic action movie with all the accessories of action.
It should be noted that the antagonists have a remarkable charisma (the admiration here refers to the fantasy of writers who repeatedly come up with new, unpredictable enemies to James Bond, such as Mr. Odjob with his death hat in Goldfinger). Christopher Lee 0 is one of the most efficient actors in Hollywood, behind him there are more than 230 (!!!) acting works and in the image of Scaramanga he looks great. But a smaller epithet deserves assistant Scaramanga - dwarf Nick Nac, played by Hervé Villesez. His devotion to Scaramange is admirable, even though they are both on the other side of the good, and the way he threatens James Bond fearlessly and fiercely, being tied to the ship's trumpet, remains a funny and vivid scene in the memory.
"The Man with the Golden Gun" confirmed that, having chosen Roger Moore for the role of James Bond, the producers were not mistaken, and the second film of Roger Moore was even better than the debut predecessor.

In the new film, the intrepid agent of the British secret service, James Bond, follows the trail of the no less dangerous mercenary Francesco Scaramanga, who dreams of dealing with the agent, and at the same time using solar energy as a weapon. Bond's enemy is cunning, cunning, and for his murders he uses a "golden gun", on the bullets of which Bond's personal number is engraved - 007.
The ninth film of the series about the adventures of the beloved secret agent continues the tradition of the old parts, turning the movie from a spy thriller into an exciting adventure film filled with the spirit of Bond, because the typical features of the series remain on the face: an insidious villain, still a charming agent who is not afraid of either bullets or insidious frames of villains, beautiful girls, chases, etc. It’s different how it’s shown here.
What does this film boast of? Unlike the previous film, it is interesting to watch. You can first pay attention to a slightly unusual plot for the series, where the villain does not threaten the whole world, but only the only agent - 007, turning him from a hunter into a victim, and therefore the whole Bond film tries to change position. Despite the detective basis, Bond’s adventures are filled with danger and endless chases, which are quite interesting to watch. The most important trick in the film - "barrel" - performed at all hundred, and makes you wonder what is happening.
Other moments also leave pleasant impressions, for example, the final duel of Bond and Scaramangi, the fight of Bond with Japanese ninjas and prch.
The cinema was not without humor and comic, which flashes here and there, although it looks quite harmonious here.
Roger Moore for the second time finds himself in the guise of an intrepid agent, and continues to make of the hero an intrepid playboy with an admixture of a superman, who except that he does not walk on the sea. Another thing is that Moore continues to portray his character from a comical point of view, but it still looks silly. Christopher Lee plays the main villain here, and in this film he is the most important star, and you can say that thanks to the excellent performance of Lee, his villain turned out to be one of the best in the series. It is impossible not to mention his assistant dwarf, the funniest character in the film.
"The Man with the Golden Gun" is a small step for the better after the last film. Quite an entertaining pastime, as well as still charming Moore and insidious Lee make the film quite interesting and exciting. Hopefully the next movie will be the same.
Continuing to gradually get used to the image of James Bond, a British intelligence agent with two zeros, an artist named Roger Moore starred in the ninth film of this series, which was named “The Man with the Golden Gun”. What can I say? Yes, the film is not bad in places, it looks exotic, bright, memorable. But who will tell me, where is the movie? What the guys who created the presented creation, with the visual case in full order becomes clear from the very first frames. The budget has been significantly increased, no doubt. It is a pity that the blunders and holes are all the same, that is, they are not patched up and how terrible they are. And if in "Live and Let Die" the storyline was more or less able to attract the viewer watching the tape, then in "The Man with the Golden Gun" this is not observed in a word. Why? Who knows the creators of the great and powerful cinema? Hell, except... And that is unlikely.
I have to admit that Moore showed himself on the positive side this time. Of course, Connery is like the sky to the ground, but still he is good. It feels like a kind of "bond" hardening. Sentimentality sometimes infuriates, but in general does not go beyond the norm, and this is already a big plus, a fat big plus. Regarding the same “hardening”, the appearance of “Agent 007” has significantly improved. On the screen, we see no stuffed-meat, but quite a beautiful man, although far from brutal, but nevertheless. Masculinity has increased, yes. Roger was too shy and rather withdrawn in this role before. We'll see what happens next. You can pull out, or try to pull out, this project from the hole, but provided that you are careful. Guided by this rule director, Guy Hamilton, was not taught. Even though the previous part, which was also under his command, succeeded many times better than this kind of “self-deception”. There's a lot to blame for. Except, again, the visuals. He's amazing. With each new film, the franchise moves to a new level of special effects, which can not but please fans of boom boom and other explosions. The only thing that saddens is that, together with the visual component, it does not increase, but rather reduces its potential - the creative part (script, cinematography, directing, soundtrack). Oh, it's really sad. What can you do?
In the opening scene from the ocean waters on the bosom of godlessly beautiful nature, the title character, wonderfully played by Lee, who recently exchanged his half-ticket. No gold gun, but with three nipples on his chest. His girlfriend is used to it and doesn't even laugh. Oh, dear, I wish we had your willpower!
Moore, they say, is a clown in the Hollywood Bond camp. The film is an additional argument in favor of such insinuations. Staten, a thoroughbred, unfazed, but he's involved, right? According to the intricate plot, he looks for meetings, finds, loses, finds again, enters into a deadly battle with a man named Sarumanga. Scaramanga. From the point of view of the plot, the movie is surprisingly similar to the French "Fantomas". The same continuous chase on land, water and air, without respite and meaning. Only there everything is in a parody framework, and here sometimes in full seriousness, and therefore sadder.
But let's not grieve, we will, as Serdyuchka said, dance. "PrEP" is very busy in places. Field shooting in Southeast Asia: from Hong Kong to Bangkok and back. High-quality chases with an impressive autotrick in the form of a jump with a coup over the river. The original interior of the intelligence headquarters in the semi-sunken cruiser. Classic Bond Square: he, the villain, the girl from his own, the girl from the villains. The appendix is a dwarf, a servant of Scaramanga. Episodes are good. In general, the circus.
The look gets stuck in absurdities, and the stamps with sloppy hats break straight into the brain (applica homage mod off). Bond is ridiculously vulnerable, and tenacious only because the enemy has not yet played with him. As a helpless special agent, he carried his dispassionately ironic face through the whole series of events. Scaramanga is a bright villain. Elite killer with a dachshund "million bucks for murder", he pursues his goals, hanging around somewhere near a source of new energy, which can also destroy. The titular gold pistol turns out to be a wick assembled from several parts, which serves the same purpose as the third nipple from the first paragraph. The legendary weapon looks like an auripigmented children's toy, which, however, can not only be given on the head. In the final, Bond, having successfully passed the initiation in a duel island club, falls, thanks to the fifth point of a slow girlfriend Goodnight, into direct dependence on a cloud in the sky over the South China Sea. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the apotheosis of the sweetest idiocy that we have had the privilege of observing the previous two hours.
So, you have finished reading this unassuming note about the ninth film of the famous film franchise. Probably because the author is ugar. You may not have been very sad. This is exactly the same way to characterize my personal (me, me, I-me, me, me, me, me, I-I) impression of “The Man with the Golden Gun”: it was funny, not too boring, but only Bond can forgive such ugliness.
Once the Bond movies with Roger Moore in the title role was not set from the very beginning. At least for me it would have been better for George Lazenby to continue playing after Sean Connery left the project than Roger. But that's not the point.
“The Man with the Golden Gun” by most parameters could not surpass not only “Live and Let Die”, but also “Diamonds Forever”. It would seem that in the previous Bond film there was enough delirium and worse just nowhere, but no. The creators of this tape “tried” to fame and made of “The Man with the Golden Gun” something to which even more or less censored words are difficult to pick up. Not only was watching it terribly boring, but the constant facepalms were not allowed to pass. Well, you can't mock the audience like that!
This picture is filled with so many relatively stupid and frankly stupid moments that they are even lazy to list. In previous reviews I have said similar words, but it is worth repeating. I’m just wondering what the big guys in Bond could have liked Guy Hamilton so much that they left him as director after Diamonds Forever and even more so after Live and Let Die.
In short, The Man with the Golden Gun can proudly take one of the highest places on the list of the worst Bond movies. This picture is just not good for anything.
