See you on Venus is the perfect summer romcom. In the story, Mia (Virginia Garner), goes on a long-awaited trip to Spain in order to find her own mother. The random company is a guy named Kyle (Alex Aiono).
At first glance, it seems that Mia and Kyle are the complete opposite of each other: an optimistic girl who sees beauty in everything and a not very optimistic guy who has lost all reference points in life. In fact, they have something in common – they both live in the past.
Kyle has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by a car accident. He is haunted by a constant sense of guilt for something he was not guilty of. It is no coincidence that Kyle’s father advises him to read Daniela Steele’s book The Best Day in Life. This book is about a girl whose life and worldview change when she falls in love with her sister’s friend. Reassessment of life values, his past and himself in it – all this happens to Kyle after he meets Mia.
Mia is able to enjoy life and live every day like the last. But behind the mask of the “holiday man” lies an inner desire to be accepted. Mia clings so strongly to the past that she sometimes forgets about the present, about what is really important.
Mia’s favorite place in the universe is Venus. A place where there is no war, disease and death. It's like a little world where you can run away from the brutal reality and hide. Kyle has his own “Venus” – this is his room, where he hides from the outside world, responsibility, guilt and himself.
In the end, fate brings Mia and Kyle together randomly. A joint trip to Spain becomes a point of no return for both, after which each of the heroes must try to find happiness in the present, here and now, and not on the far, far Venus.
