The battle has begun. Bets are accepted. Jaya, a girl from a simple family, dreams of getting an education and finding a job, and instead she is married. The husband immediately makes it clear who the owner is in the house, often hanging her slaps. Due to general indifference, Jaya is left alone with her problem. And then one day the domestic tyrant suddenly discovered that he is not the only one & #39; Thunderstorm & #39; family. A serious war broke out between the spouses, the result of which will stun many.
Vipin Das was able to find the right way to make tragicomedy with a strong social message not only heartwarming, but also hilarious. I don’t think anyone filmed anything like that in India. At least not in the same manner as Vipin. The uniqueness of the film lies not in the hundredth or thousandth description of the family problems of Indian women, but in the struggle for their supremacy, which the couple entered into. Well, where is it seen that a wife resisted her husband, without resorting to divorce or falling into an amoebic state ' do with me what you want'? I do not know what exactly inspired Vipin to write such a script, but his efforts have borne fruit in the form of decent box office receipts and positive feedback from viewers and critics. In addition, Vipin managed to release two films in one year, one in April, the other in October. It is also not a common occurrence among directors. And let the second film (released first) passed among the audience at a medium pace, but the next shot was right in the bull’s eye.
As I said, the first thing that is striking is not the theme of the story, but its execution. On the role of the spouses picked up the perfect pair of actors, also in the same year played together in another film. There they were not partners, but here their compatibility was set by the mood, which is the main interest in the plot. It is obvious that even without this poor downtrodden Indian women with deep understanding and sympathy would listen to the story told, and critics would not much swear, because the topic is extremely sensitive and exciting the nation for hundreds (thousand) years. However, for a foreign viewer, especially for someone who is not familiar with domestic violence (I hope most of them are), it is not enough to simply state the fact of this ugliness. And here it is. Of course, in many ways this is real fiction, although this genre is not in the official description of the film. Does this mean that such cases already exist? I'm not talking about how a wife rebelled against her husband, but about how she dared to go against the system.
So, back to the actors - the pepper and salt of this story. Since the film has two genres, comedy and drama, they were distributed exactly in half between the main characters. Although Basil Joseph (husband), who took over the comedy part, periodically jumped half of his on-screen wife Darshana Rajendran, who took the acceleration from the dramatic track. Basil's humorous image, it would seem, does not quite fit into such a situation, and the more unexpected becomes a change in his behavior, or rather constant changes. Frankly, it is because of him that until the very end there are doubts that everything will end the way it ended. I believe that the goal of Vipin was to cause just such a reaction among the audience – with excitement and growing interest to wait for the denouement, there will be, in the end, a happy ending or not. Tone down the serious tone from which it all starts. At first, it’s hard to tell if there’s something to laugh about. We are again shown what an unenviable fate the girls in the family, how difficult it is for them to bargain for their freedom to go to study and then work. Parents, of course, and rupees do not want to spend on her education, as she still has one way – to get married and leave home. Please note, however, that these are the poorest people. The lack of a prestigious education for children from wealthy families, whether a boy or a girl, on the contrary, will negatively affect their status.
So, the heroine of Darshana is as joyless as most similar heroines. Except that she does make the final leap to freedom, all or nothing. The girl is laconic, does not arrange scandals for her husband, and in general, in fact, does not touch anyone. Her sadness is her concern. I think that here Vipin had the idea to give all oppressed women a real motivation to stop bullying them. And it seems that even at first glance, fantastic episodes get a reasonable explanation. But at the same time, we're being shown that Jaya's case is out of the ordinary, it's an exciting topic and it's sparking a heated debate on social media. I believe that this is not what Vipin calls for, but simply argues that it is possible to stir up a sense of self-esteem in women, and even without outside support they can stand up for themselves. It is as if there is a mockery of the tyrant himself, saying that he is not so strong if you drip deeper. If he mocks the weak, he cannot overcome the strong. In general, Vipin walked through everything, but in order not to unfold a full-scale drama in front of the audience, he made the plot in an ironic style that is memorable and easily revised. And again, all thanks to a great acting. This is not the first time Basil and Darshana have played together, perhaps not the last.
From the technical side, the film can be safely called low-budget. I don’t think a lot of money was spent on the location, but here’s the fee, maybe. Don't be fooled by Basil Joseph's funny look, he's not as simple as he seems. Despite the fact that his acting career is mostly secondary roles, at the moment he is one of the successful Kerala directors. Getting a guy like that into your project is expensive. But it is impossible not to recognize the acting merits of Basil. He is really talented, charismatic and full of surprises. Darshana also successfully combines the career of an actress and a singer, and also sometimes looks at Tamils. For example, she has already played in the film with Vijay Sethupathi (not in a pair, but the fact itself is worthy of attention).
The film has no age rating. It is released in free rental and is available for educational purposes. Mollywood is probably the best among South Indian cinematographers, who manages to shoot not just a believable movie, but make it akin to a parable. The lessons learned from these films are invaluable. Therefore, my mandatory recommendation for viewing is obvious. Have a pleasant and useful time for everyone!
