In a healthy body a healthy mind Kim Duc-Pal was a good man. I wish I had worked as a gangster. By the way, I was taking classes, I wanted to finish high school, what kind of life without secondary education? I would have dreamed so much, but let an accident fail: saving another life, he lost his own.
Mourning, funeral, grave... The body of a gangster on the last journey was escorted by a teenager. The same, and not the same, because the soul of a man has found refuge in a new place – a shocking change in the character of yesterday’s spineless weakling, confusing former accomplices and current classmates with whom he has to settle the relationship of a guy named Son Lee Hong, recognizing his friends and enemies who pushed the falling in the back.
Staying on the screen of adult Kim Dyk-Pal is very short. The whole game is built through Yoon Chan Yong, who plays a young man with the consciousness of a forty-seven-year-old man, trying to understand and protect a helpless child – an unexpected symbiosis of sanity and a strong hand, turning the former criminal leader into a carrier of justice and morality.
For a society clearly divided by age and official strata, the combination of early youth and mature reason creates a special contrast that challenges the usual order of things, which is the main merit of Yoon Chan Yong, whose character breaks stereotypes, instructing older people and convincing those who burnt Dyk-Pal, would be suitable for a young son.
And you know what bribes a reborn gangster? Selflessness. He holds his seat, solves the problems of a boy killed by loneliness, ready at the right moment to return his soul to a strengthened body, and it is at this moment that the question arises: what will become of a young body without a strong spirit and what is the use of a healthy body from a weak spirit, if what happened once can be repeated again, making the work of a voluntary patron in vain.
Eliminating this problem will be the final solution of the former Song Lee Hong, and by that time another Song Lee Hong will restore order and put everyone in their places: fathers and children, teachers and students, friends and opponents, which is not easy to combine with the gangster origin of the new personality of the bullied teenager, again coming to the idea of the duality of character of Kim Duk-Pal himself, as he was before the intersection of these souls.
The persuasiveness of Yoon Chang-yeon, surrounded by the expressiveness of his memorable partners, fills the story with the dreamy optimism of a decent man with a bad reputation, pushing aside the obvious contradictions of the noble gang nature that opens up to us, but this is what the fairy tale in the plot is necessary to give free rein to the imagination and reason for reflection, and they sound the motive of a “second chance” that, inevitably, must be disposed of by either of the two.
